              having a choice in most matters has been a rare privilege in her life.  she has become far too accustomed to people demanding what they want from her,  often taking it forcefully.  and sometimes she finds even the simplest favors feel meaningful when it’s requested,  when she is reassured she is allowed to make decisions now.  there’s a softening in her eyes when she looks towards him.  a subtle smile curls at the corners of her lips.  she shakes her head to dismiss the very thought of her denying him.  ❝  i’ll help.  ❞  she promises quietly  ❝  what?  is it?  ❞

“Look, I know how to take care of him. He’s needed back in Ta Lo anyways. I just came by to ask for some bandages and tongue depressors to make a splint out of. I didn’t think about the whole ‘creature from a hidden world’ aspect being a shock or confusing in nature. Maybe I’m too used to it now.”

bubbles chuckled through her nose, though professor could probably hear that she was a little bit bitter. “that’s just the thing, professor. he’s a really smart guy with a really good, cute head on his shoulder.” bubbles thought this boy was so smart and so cute. he wasn’t the insane type, even if he didn’t like bubbles back. “what if it’s me?” though she had a feeling she already knew professor’s opinion.

       ❝ WOW, WHAT A BLOW.  bet it’ll take you ages to recover from receiving such a description. have you done anything to counteract it ?  something non-nurturing ? ❞

“ This  would  be  a  good opportunity  to  review  our  plan,”  he  says,  simply  to  break  the  suffocating  silence. “ We’re  going  to be  stuck  here  for  awhile anyway. ”

He’s staring, actually meeting the other’s gaze because out of all people, Edward is the last person he expects to have barging into his room.  It had taken years in the household for him to finally be comfortable enough to sleep inside amongst people.  Even longer he supposes for him to actually start processing things both subconsciously and consciously.  Maybe it was a good thing he hadn’t slept in almost a hundred years if this was what would’ve happened.   It was more of a nap than anything.  Alice was likely still up working on something, probably hadn’t seen it given he doesn’t think nightmares are a conscious decision.  Despite the darkness outside, he can see Edward as clear as day.  If he still had a functioning heart, it would have likely burst out of his ribcage by now.  Though by his calculations, he’d gone down around sundown, he’s simultaneously exhausted and wired beyond belief.  It takes him a second to realize he’s actually up and crouching on the bed, ready to move.   It’s a lot harder to keep his head clear when he’s still spinning.  Terrified of things that weren’t even in the same country and yet wondering if he’d just seen his own death.  His skin still burns like it had been real.  The dark outside tempts him to take off into the woods.  Somewhere where there isn’t even sun one day a year, maybe on an island hard to get to.  “The fuck are you doing in here?  I’m not dying.”
