if you read text (especially black text on white paper) and the words are moving/vibrating/shifting/glowing/popping off the page, you might be thinking you have dyslexia, but it's way more likely to be irlen syndrome.

dyslexia is a language processing disorder, whereas irlens is a visual processing disorder. irlens is often misdiagnosed as dyslexia, and it's likely there's a lot of people out there who have irlens without realising it.

it's more common in autistic people and affects more than just reading and writing. for example, i have a really difficult time looking at radiators like this:

cos of the contrast between the shadows and the white paint, it's like the lines are constantly vibrating, shifting and pulsing with colours. but also keep in mind, i have pretty severe irlen syndrome, so other people with the condition might not have this issue.

it took me until i was SIXTEEN to finally get diagnosed. before hand i had gone my whole life thinking everything was normal and i was just bad at reading because i was stupid. i mean, i am kinda dumb but that's besides the point.

but if i could go through most of my life in education with unnoticed severe irlens, chances are there are people out there going on longer with it still being unnoticed.

so i ask you...
