“You have defended him…to the point of causing a scandal” feels very real. And the casual sexism, too, probably. But she seems to have really captured that fear, fear of friends & once-allies. The way they wrestle with these decisions makes the more recent depictions where SJ or Max are just vaguely hostile feel so much more shallow.

Announcing "Liberty, Epistolary, Fraternity!"
Dracula Daily can be for anything in the public domain.... so why not some non-fiction? LEF will send out, approximately weekly, a letter (of varying length) relevant to the French Revolution on the relevant date. We will begin on 14 Juillet 1789 and slowly make our way to 1794. People can hop on and off the train at any time, and "necroposting" is completely fine.

OH it's the ending of La Terreur et la Vertu! (Is it the only one to get this depiction right?) I knew their interpretation was right, that of course Saint-Just had proven himself capable of military strategy & implementation, and I knew about Napoleon's role against the royalist uprising in Vendémiaire. But somehow to make the connection, to think about it concretely in terms of what could've happened, what did happen later, and the bloodbath that Saint-Just's choices averted is quite stunning. (Especially since it seems like he's often described as being passive in the last hours, but in the context, "passiveness" was an active decision that must've saved lives, though it sacrificed their own.)

Hello I just wanted to say first of all that I love your work, you're doing an amazing job. I love the french révolution but I wanna learn more about Desmoulins specifically because I barely know anything about him ?? I know like.. the basics from his Wikipedia (i hate Wikipedia cuz its never accurate.. anyway) and I made some researches but they always explain the same things about him.. don't you have fun facts about him ? Like things that were never mentionned on his wiki that are really interesting to learn or fun things in general ?? Thank you

I'm linking to some English translations, but there is much more in French! There is a book about Camille and Lucille by the historian Herve Leuwers that might interest you, if you can read French.
And for more English translations of the really fun/interesting content that gets across his character much more than history books tend to, I recc looking through the Camille Desmoulins tag on @anotherhumaninthisworld 's blog, for various collections of weird and wonderful Camille moments such as:

Everyone seems to remember Max's "Pity is treason" stance [horribly mangled from what he actually said], but have you ever heard Fersen say "Clemency would be extremely pernicious"?
How about royalist Malet du Pan's warning against "harmful pity"? And Mercy-Argenteau's exhortation that the Jacobins must be "exterminated"?
Fersen's quote is not from his diary, by the way, but in a letter to Breteuil during the 1792 invasion of France, when Breteuil was on French soil actively helping to administer the captured territories & pushing for "exemplary punishments".
This is specifically described in the context of the September Massacres, but I hope I've made clear by now, Breteuil's (&probably Bouillé's) plans for vengeance and crushing punishments long predates this period.
