28 Days of Devotional Journaling
This is a simple journaling challenge/exercise that I’ve put together that helps to explore and connect with chosen deity. The rules are simple: Choose a deity to work with, then for the next 28 days, complete one prompt per day. It’s that simple!
1. List all the various names of your deity, in your language and in the original language.
2. Write an epithet for your deity and write why you think it is befitting of them.
3. What is your favorite myth involving your chosen deity? Are there any retellings or interpretations that you prefer to the original?
4. Show off your favorite picture, drawing or moodboard that represents perfectly how you view your deity.
5. List any keywords and symbols that are associated with your deity. How do you feel about these words and symbols?
6. Build an altar, no matter how big or small, to your deity. If you are unable to do this, write or draw what you would have on that altar in your journal.
7. Make a list of Hymns or prayers, traditional or original, that you prefer.
8. In any form you choose, list any messages that you have received from them.
9. What are your deity’s correspondences?
10. What was considered sacred to your deity?
11. What are the worship days/holidays/popular celebrations associated with your deity?
12. Make a list of offering ideas
13. Write a playlist dedicated to your deity.
14. What locations or places are sacred to your deity?
15. Make a list of quotes that you associate with your deity.
16. What signs do you associate with them? How do you know when they communicate with you?
17. What are some activities, charities or other causes that you can do in their name to honor them?
18. Make a list of drinks and foods that your deity likes. Write down your favorite “modern” recipes.
19. Using the Five Senses, how would you describe your deity?
20. Write a ritual dedicated to them. This can be ceremonial or a routine.
21. What are some of the lessons that you are taught by the stories told about your deity?
22. Are there any media representations of your deity? What is your favorite?
23. What are some popular “modern” ways to honor your deity?
24. Write about their realm of influence. What all does your deity rule over?
25. What are some modern issues that would concern your deity?
26. Are there any other deities that your deity is often associated/confused with?
27. Who are the relatives of your deity? What is there most significant relationships?
28. What are your own personal practices to honor your deity?
Gonna do this.
I wanna try this.
Bast more than the Queen of Cats
Bast is one of the oldest Gods and isn’t often given the credit she deserves. Commonly loved but rarely truly respected. She is usually worshipped as the Queen of Cats but that is merely a small part of who and what she is. She is Protector of Ra and defeater of Apep. She is so powerful that she was the “Body Guard” for the King of the Gods Ra, defeater of evil incarnate. She is the last line of defense against oblivion.
She is no defenseless kitten but one of the most powerful deities of the Ancient Egyptians. She is a first Kingdom goddess with roots tracing to pre-dynasty tribal chieftains. She was a Lower Kingdom Goddess with her temple city Bubastis being just north of modern-day Cairo. So devoted to her worship were her people that when the Upper Kingdom came down and conquered the Lower Kingdom, thus uniting the two Kingdoms that though many of the Lower Egyptian God’s were replaced with Upper Deities, as conquerors are want to do, Bast could not be replaced. Bast and Sekhmet respectively held the same position. However since there could only be one Warrior Goddess and protector of All of Egypt, Bast was shifted into the role of Protector of Ra, the royal family, and creation as they knew it. Through the thousands, yes thousands of years, the two started to become syncretized together and were often interchangeable. However, Sekhmet’s role was always to protect Egypt from outer forces while Bast main focus was that of inner troubles.
It wasn’t until much later, when the Greek’s conquered Egypt that Bast was defanged and declawed much of her power given over to Dionysus and her name changed to Ailuros. Thousands of years after she was the Captain of the Guard to the Royal family of the God’s, Defeater of Apep, She Who Devours, The Greeks made her Queen of Cat’s losing her dual form of Cat-Woman she would only now be depicted as a small black cat. Much of power and worship having been stripped away given to the male Greek God’s of the conquering kingdom across the seas.
Egyptian’s didn’t have the same feelings about sex as we do in this modern society. Bast is just as much a Warrior Goddess as she is the Sex Kitten, Mother, and Magician. She doesn’t need to be either or, she is all and more. To trivialize her is insulting. If you want to work with her don’t be lazy. Get to know the depths of her story. Know that she is more complicated, knowledgeable and powerful than you could ever imagine. Like most of us, she likes boxes but doesn’t want to be trapped in one. Do not limit your perception of her; she will not thank you for it.
Prayer to Bast
Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice
Oh goddess who blesses our homes with your presence, goddess who brings bounty and prosperity
Rejoice oh Bast, mistress whose hand can command the tide of luck
Lady of Joy whose laughter fills the air with love and peace
Praise be onto you, queen of the home, mother of the family
Comforter of all in need of your mercy
Divine mother, holy guardian of the home, I bless your name
Bast, giver of blessings
Bast, giver of love
I call to you oh mighty eye, most beloved servant of Ra
Whose eyes burn with fire and whose teeth glisten as blades
Praise be to you oh slayer of demons
Find joy in my words, great Bast, goddess without equal
See my words curl upwards onto your throne
Like incense, which I light in your name
Find my prayer pleasing to you
And grant me your guidance, strength, favor and protection
Hail great Bast, living essence of our home

Nine Lives
Dearest Bastet, fierce mother, tell me the story of the cat. Tell me how the smallest of a pride can become the most tresured of creatures. I want to know how to turn my weakness to strength. How to see my flaws as gifts. Turn me from the runt of the litter to a graceful huntress, from an outcast of the pack to a coveted queen. Small paws unable to carve into the thick flesh are perfect for the silent pursuit of mice. Soft fur too delicate for the elements of the wild endear your children to human kind. Teach me to see the sunlight in the darkest night as it’s reflected by the moon. Shape me with the sands of time and the rivers of emotion until I’m new and let the grains chipped away from me help others be shaped too.
Following people again, lms/reblog if you post

Bast things
Often these things don’t get mentioned to people new to working with her so I’m going to disclose some of my UPG.
- Yes, she is motherly to a fault. You gotta take the good with the bad. She will love you and listen to you.
- That being said, she will absolutely not hesitate to clap in your face about self care.
- ESPECIALLY about moisturising.
- Offering her things you’re about to put in a bath is a 100% viable offering. Especially if it contains flowers, honey, milk or all 3.
- Remember those resources you read about her loving red or white candles? Guess what red and white makes. That’s right, she also loves pink candles.
- “Womens truths”. Think about it, she favours lesbians/wlw.
- Cats can and will appear everywhere, particularly if she wants to reach you.
- At some point you’ll bring something home that you won’t even know she likes. Suddenly you’re at her shrine and it is hers.
- Of all the deities I’ve worshipped, she is the one that pops in and out the most as she pleases. Including during offerings. It’s not that she doesn’t love you, that’s just how she is.
Best of luck contacting her, I hope this helps 🖤💛.
✨ beginner polytheist tips✨
I notice a lot of new polytheists and aspiring devotees asking what to do to find their deities/feel closer to them/talk to them/etc, so I thought I’d share somewhat in detail what has helped for me when I chose to put my faith in them - aside from prayer and divination
🌱🔸make plans/rules for yourself and follow them. habit forming is a stepping stone to worship. for me, if I don’t do anything else faith-driven, I at least ring my chime. It doesn’t have to be so obvious, try to work it into your normal routine
🌱🔸just about anything can be an offering! buried offerings are my biggest but writing, brushing your teeth, self control, treat yo’ self, baths, your blog, video games with character select any video games, photos, playlists - you name it. if it makes you think of them, it honors them
🌱🔸on the other hand - if you feel they are stubbornly distant, study them more, try new offerings, look elsewhere. do you have pop culture icons that remind you of someone without inherently representing them? has something at the store been catching your eye? dig deep, follow your gut!
🌱🔸if they do at all, they will not likely present predictably. they have shown themselves to me through physical objects, in birds, in the sunlight between the blinds, in baths, the melodies of my heart, and I suspect endless other variations. but never once did i expect it
🌱🔸 rainfall can be an excellent tool for communication. speak/pray to your deity and listen to the shift in the weather for responsive gestures
🌱🔸 new moons are good for being noticed! light candles to illuminate yourself, talk to them full moons are good for noticing them! turn out/dim the lights and let yourself be overwhelmed
🌱 🔸can’t bury/burn food? don’t like throwing away offerings? your deity might prefer that you eat it for them! if you have strange cravings or see something new, indulge! even if you don’t like it, you tried it for them and tbh that’s just as special
🌱🔸if you’re having trouble branching out, ask your current deity what they think of other gods you are interested in. pay attention when you reread their summaries, was there someone who stuck out this time? don’t forget, the lore is not a set in stone representation of their behavior/interactions with others but it’s important to still be mindful
🌱🔸 if you are trying to use divination, ask your tools what they think of your deities/reach out to a third party diviner some readings might be more willing (and more helpful!) than others.
🌱🔸 if you can’t lucid dream/astral travel (like me) give daydreaming a try! concentrate on what it would look like if you had a meeting spot with your deity. picture what you would wear (if anything), how large or small they are, setting details, lighting, etc. then lose yourself in that world during mediation, chores, walks, right before bed, whenever you can zone out
🌱🔸 if you still can’t, fake it til you make it. improvise with nature sounds, sit in the dark (if you’re okay with that), watch optical illusion gifs, anything that can get your mind creating. take notes on your theories and keep track of what you’ve tried.
🌱🔸 limited supplies? pick from what you’ve got save old jewelry for charms, grab your spare crystals, trinkets you’ve held onto for years, and you can use divination - or my personal favorite “just guess” what they might like. interacting with their item could help form those bonds
most importantly- keep them in your thoughts! you don’t have to do any of these things at all to connect with or find your deity. in fact, I have tried all of these countless times and still not reached some in particular. you might find your own method along the way and that’s all the more special.
remember that whomever they are, they love you already and they know you’re trying
It’s Important to Remember:
Not everyone views the Gods the same way.
Not everyone worships their Gods.
Many Pagans do not view all Gods as perfect or infallible. This is actually normal.
Not everyone has the same opinion or relationship with a God.
Not everyone views the Gods as their parent.
Some people have enough parents and are not interested in more.
Some people may have negative experiences with certain Gods and that’s okay, it shouldn’t affect *your* relationship with your God, and you shouldn’t try to force/fix someone else’s relationship with that deity.
Some see Gods like family, but with their own agenda. This is also valid.
Some people are married to their God. This is valid. Even Christianity has Godspousing. It is a thing. Don’t disrespect it because you don’t understand it.
Not everyone believes that all Gods are 100% tuned into what is your highest good. They are not equatable to the Christian Omniscient/Omnipotent God that knows what is best for all people.
Some people avoid certain Gods because they feel that God has their own agenda, which may be true.
Not all Gods may have your comfort and happiness as their priority. Some may act against this.
Not all Gods *like* humanity.
DO NOT PROJECT YOUR VIEW OF YOUR GOD ONTO OTHER PEOPLE.
DO NOT CONDEMN OTHERS THAT DO NOT SHARE THE SAME VIEW.

My favorite Epithets for Bast:
Who rises on the horizon
She with the powerful heart
Lady of heaven and earth
Lady of light
Mistress of splendor
Who dispels darkness
Who creates the rays
Who allows the two lands to flourish
Who protects her father
Who fills the palace with joy
Lady of the birth houses
The mistress of protection in the Divine Pasture
Lady of life
The mistress of the breath of life
The mistress of manifestations
The mistress of jewelry
She with pleasant scent
The devouring flame
The eye of Ra
Whose flame comes out against her enemies
Who inflicts massacre against the crooked-hearted
The very popular one (to the gods)
The mistress of messengers
Who delights Ra with the beat of her fingers (as a musician)
The ocean for your healing!
Ocean has always been a mesmerizing thing and extremely helpful, thank you <3
Stop guilt tripping people into reblogging your posts. No one has to reblog it; they’re not a bad person for choosing to reblog your aesthetic posts over your other posts that have to do with war and tragedy. Many of us are on tumblr to get away from seeing that stuff everywhere; many of us get anxiety attacks when we see it. It takes a toll on your mental health. Maybe they don’t reblog it on here, but they share it and talk about it outside of tumblr. Maybe tumblr is their happy place.
You don’t know the reason why someone doesn’t want to reblog something like that.
To my followers: you don’t ever have to reblog a post. Period. No matter how manipulative it may seem, you are never obligated to reblog it.

Introduction to Solar Energy
Disclaimer: Please take into account that all of this is UPG (Unverified Personal Gnosis). My experiences working with Solar energy are deeply personal and might not reflect your own experiences. If you have significant personal experience to add, I would love to hear it!
Hi everyone - Acheron here! Today’s topic is Solar Energy. An ever-present but not-nearly-discussed-enough Energy type, Solar is the core of my personal practice and is present in nearly all my magic, wards, conjuring, and my own alignment. I wanted to take some time to compile my base notes on the energy as a Type and share my experiences with it!
DESCRIPTION
In comparison to most, it’s a beginner energy. Easily accessible, easily utilized. You do not have to look far at all to access Solar energy - you can even still access it on a cloudy day, because the sun is still there.
It is a light energy, and a Light energy, by nature, but you do not have to be Light-aligned to use it. You don’t even need to be Solar-aligned to use it.
When using Solar energy, it doesn’t appear like fire - you won’t see literal flames. It’s blinding and capable of leaving major burns, but appears as light. It does not emit the same heat you would feel off a flame; this heat is, instead, permeating and all-encompassing. It comes from everywhere at once, even if it is localized (into, say, an energy ball).
Color-wise, it’s white, until you look at it closer. Here’s a breakdown of the colors of light, if you’re unfamiliar with this - though most people learned this pretty early on in school, so I know it’s familiar to most. To many, it appears white-yellow; to me, it appears that way, too, but I also get hints of blue. It’s very hard to look directly at.
Personally, working with Solar energy gives me the same feeling as sunbathing, no matter what I am using it for. While working with Fire energy feels more localized and direct, Solar feels more like it is surrounding me and is present in every part of me when I call on it and tap into it as a Source. Solar is very powerful, and you can feel this while you work with it. It is so hot that it feels cold to me, and, before I progressed further into my path, my astral self had to wear gloves to work with it.
WORKING WITH IT
It is an incredibly powerful energy type; both offensive and defensive, with more heat and power than Fire due to its immense size and higher temperature. You can feel this when you work with it - instead of being a heat, I feel it as more of an energetic rush wherever the Solar energy is most concentrated. This is typically my hands, which is what I use to manipulate the energy. My hands will be very warm, bright, and I will feel like all my energy and attention has been directed to them.
While Solar energy is a subtype of Light energy, you do not have to be Light to work with it. I, myself, am more Gray-aligned, and Solar is my main elemental/energetic alignment. I am sure anyone, Light or Dark or in-between, can use Solar energy in their own ways, though your success rate may vary.
WHAT ARE ITS USES?
Solar energy can be used for creation and destruction, healing and cursing. It inherently has both life-giving and life-destroying properties. Its potential is wide, considering that it is a natural energy source, and can be used and manipulated to fit your intentions.
Solar is life-giving, making it perfect for healing. It is very powerful and is a potent addition or source for spells. I also craft my wards with Solar energy as a base, with its heat and protective properties making great shields.
On the other hand, it can burn, blind, dehydrate, and has the capacity to end life as easily as it began it. Burns can leave scars that last a lifetime. It has enormous potential for curses and hexes.
COMPATIBLE ENERGIES AND ALIGNMENTS
Fire: While Fire and Solar energy are compatible and come from the same Source (Light), Fire is more Earth-based while Solar is Celestial-based. Solar is in the Light and Celestial energy families, being a subtype or strain of both families. Fire is localized, and Solar is Celestial in nature, feeling more distant, grand, and powerful. Fire energy tends to vary in power depending on what you’re using or your intentions, and Solar carries a lot more power and has a higher intensity. Solar energy is more universal, and you are merely borrowing it. Using Solar energy is, to an extent, using Fire energy as well.
Celestial: The Sun is a star, and is compatible with the energy of other Celestial bodies, particularly other stars. Its energy is typical to that of stars, when generalized, but is significant to us as being our own star.
Lunar: The Moon can be seen as a secondary source of Solar energy - its light is merely reflections of the Sun’s light. While it has its own properties, it also contains some properties of Solar energy, and the energies are highly compatible.
Earth: The sun is a star, and its light has a lot of properties of star energy, but with an Earthen twist - it is our star, unlike all others, unique in its own ways The Sun is what gives Earth the ability and capacity to host life, and is necessary for many functions of life. It is, therefore, compatible with the energy of plants, the earth, and life itself.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
If you have a solid grasp on energy work, you’re ready to go. Think Solar energy might work well for you? Try it! Very few energy types are as easily accessible as Solar energy.
To get started, use some basic energy work techniques - and here’s some methods to try if you aren’t so great at visualization. I suggest sitting in sunlight, if possible, if you have never attempted to work with Solar energy before. Start simple - visualize it between your hands, and continue to feel it gather until you feel the presence of it. Don’t feel it, and getting frustrated? Try again another time! It may take a few tries, especially if you have never tried energy work before.
If it is difficult to work with, you can’t seem to connect with it, or it hurts you, you may not be Solar-compatible. Feel free to keep experimenting, but don’t hurt yourself.
For more perspectives on Solar magic, I suggest researching the Sun as a symbol in religion - it is the center of the world’s potentially oldest religion! Even if you aren’t looking to worship the Sun (I don’t!), it’s a great center for research. It has a rich history in magic, symbolism, folklore, and culture, and reading about it will deepen your understanding of the energy and its magical use.
Here are some readings I recommend:
Here Comes The Sun - Sun Symbolism, Solar Magic and the 3rd Chakra
Solar Magic, Myth, & Folklore
Ancient Sun Worship
The Religion of the Sun
My Solar tag
I hope you enjoyed my Introduction to Solar Energy - I have been working on this post for months, and I am so excited to share it with you! This marks the beginning of my Solar Series, which will progress as I write more about my research with this Energy Source.
