When water is getting through your roof, it begins to pool up above your ceiling. When your area is getting a lot of rain, just pay attention to your ceiling, especially if you have an older roof. If your ceiling is bulging or discolored, itâs a sure sign youâve gone water pooling up on it. If you have an accessible attic space you can also head up there to check for signs of water damage.
Call a contractor
When you spot a roof leak, you need to call a roofing company immediately. If itâs the middle of the night, chances are you can find a roofing company with a 24/7 emergency service line. Youâll want a roofer to come by and stop the leak as soon as humanly possible.
While youâre waiting, you can use a large bowl or pan of some kind to collect any water that is dripping from your ceiling. If water is pooling up above your ceiling but is not yet leaking through, you can still grab the pots and bowls and poke a small hole in the center of the bulge in your ceiling. You want to let the trapped water escape before it spreads out more causing more damage.
When roofers arrive, they will find where the leak is originating from. They may need to do some repairs on the sport to temporarily stop the leak. They may use a tarp to cover the damaged part of your roof until they can come back to permanently fix the damage. Once your roof has been patched up, you can begin the process of taking care of the water damage inside your home.
