“Sweet, I got invited to the thing! Now to see if I can find something to wear that hasn’t been damaged by Troublemaker’s recent escapades....”
“Walking on water when you obviously lack proper training is quite an accomplishment!"
“Huh?” Shanyin looked down at the ripples forming at his feet and lost his focus, meaning that he lost the rhythm of his breathing and fell into the water. “You could’ve told me that after I out of the pool.” He sputtered.

Oooh, damn it, he’d messed up the other. K.C. flinches a bit as the stranger he interrupted splashes down into the pool. “Sorry, sorry, I just didn’t expect to see someone doing that here. Wherever here is.”
He steps onto the water, calmly breathing. A hand is offered for the doused human. “Let me lend you a hand out? K.C., by the way.” His words are spoken on exhales, keeping his breath relatively steady.
“Huang Shanyin. And I’d love the help.” Shanyin said, holding up a hand. Weird, this guy knew the same trick he did? “Hey, how’re you walking on water anyway?”
“Eh?” And that question made him loose focus, resulting in K.C. also getting dunked in the water. He sputters a bit as he breaches the water’s surface, coughing a bit harshly as some water got in his throat.
“Blarg. Well, I was walking on it with use of Hamon. Er, using one’s life-energy and breath to do things seen as super-human. For the pulling a Jesus just now, I was using my energy as snowshoes, basically. I thought you kinda knew about it, seeing as you were doing the same thing.”

Oh, how long had it been since he had come to Nightopia? It had to have been at least a decade. Echost walks along the ground of the current Nightopia he had entered, but pauses when he sees a purple figure shaped a bit like them in the distance. Echost approaches, lightly tapping them on the shoulder. "Excuse me, but who are you?" Hopefully they wouldn't mind their horns.
Their attention had been mostly focused on some nearby Nightopians playing around, so perhaps that’s why they didn’t notice the presence someone else around, but the violet dream being is nonetheless the slightest bit startled whenever they feel someone tap them on the shoulder, followed by a voice that they certainly don’t recognize.
“Huh?” NiGHTS utters, whirling around to regard whomever it is that had addressed them. Their head tilts a little in both mild curiosity and confusion at the stranger standing before them, and their hands rest upon their hips habitually as they give the other a brief once-over. Their cerulean hues are immediately drawn to the horns, and while they’re not intimidated by them, it does bring up some suspicions; is this another Nightmaren, perhaps?
But, then again, they’re pretty sure they at least know of all the others of their kind currently working under Wizeman, and they certainly don’t recognize this one - they don’t think their creator is in any hurry to create any new ones, either. So, just who are they, exactly?
“NiGHTS…who are you? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around here before.”
Oh, hello they’re tuning him out. Guess NiGHTS isn’t a fan of rambling thoughts– he’ll try to keep it down in the future.
“Oh, you left Wizeman’s rule? I have to say, that’s the first time I’ve heard of that happening! Well, welcome to the side of light then! I’m sure if a certain someone wasn’t in slumber they’d greet you in a heartbeat.”
But that was for another time. “So you help out the visitors, hm? I take it you have some sort of special ability that lets you aid them. Would you mind telling me about it?”
Mainly they were interested in how NiGHTS helped out the humans and other beings that ended up in Nightopia. It seems he had considerable catching up to do, as usual.
“Yep, I’m one of a kind!” NiGHTS declares, and they can’t help looking rather proud over this fact - Wizeman puts forth a great effort to keep the denizens of Nightmare under his thumb, after all, so even humoring the thought of rebelling is rare from others of their kind. It’s unfortunate, but they understand that not everyone can shrug off the threat of permanent erasure at the hands of their creator as well as they can.
They don’t like it, mind you, but they do understand.
“I couldn’t stand being there or listening to him anymore, so I left, and eventually somehow got roped out into helping out the Visitors…and, here I am.” They shrug nonchalantly - of course, their explanation leaves out some details, like how the old bird practically begged for their help, or how they were trapped in the Ideya Palace by their creator and wound up meeting the first Visitors they ever really bonded with as a result.
A lot of things that’d take forever to explain and they don’t really have the patience for saying all at once.
“Anyway, my Ideya shard here let’s me Dualize with Visitors.” NiGHTS lightly prods the red jewel embedded in their chest with the tip of their index finger. “It’s like having two people inside my body at once.”
“You were made with an Ideya shard? No wonder Wizeman couldn’t keep you under his thumbs!” Echost leans over, examining the shard of courage. “That’s simply fascinating!”
He nods, standing straight once more. “Very well, I see how you can aid Visitors now! It’s much better than my own skill-- much less draining!” Echost chuckles a bit, his laugh sounding slightly like rumbling thunder.
“I may not be interfering these days, but I’d say keep up the good work, NiGHTS!” A hand goes to gently pat the top of the others’ head-- then stops. “Er, my apologies. It gets quite lonely in my realm, so I tend to be a bit touchy towards any friendly face.”
Oh, how long had it been since he had come to Nightopia? It had to have been at least a decade. Echost walks along the ground of the current Nightopia he had entered, but pauses when he sees a purple figure shaped a bit like them in the distance. “NiGHTS…who are you? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around here before.”
“Ah, I’m Echost! I guess you could call me a being in-between nightmares and pleasant dreams. It’s a pleasure to meet you, NiGHTS.” He lightly picks up one of their hands, planting a quick peck on the back of it.
“Oh, sorry, I should have asked if that was still a polite way to greet people. I admit my manners might be a few centuries behind– staying in a solitary realm just a bit off from Nightopia does that to a being.”
He lightly drops the hand he had picked up. “Anyways, I’m guessing you’re… one of Wizeman’s creations? Ah– don’t worry, I won’t tell any visitors I find! It’s not my job to meddle in his affairs at the moment.” Oh, drat, he’s rambling again.
“Sorry, I got terribly off-topic! Anyways, yes, I’m Echost, full title Echost the Equilibria Magna. You could say I’m the lord of day-dreams, and if nightmares or good dreams get greatly out of balance, it’s my job to step in and even things out. Amazingly, I haven’t had to act on my job in a few billions of years!”
Goodness, this one sure does talk a lot, doesn’t he? NiGHTS can’t help mentally drawing a comparison between him and the old bird that often nags at them for various reasons, although this one appears to be considerably more enthusiastic than Owl does. Besides that, though, he seems friendly enough that the violet dream being isn’t put off by his actions or manner of speaking all that much.
This is a lot of information to take in at once and NiGHTS has to make a conscious effort not to tune any of it out when the explanations go on for more than a few sentences; it’s not on purpose, mind you - just habitual, given that they aren’t fond of long, rambling lectures. They get the general gist of his words, at any rate, and the important thing is that he’s not here to pick a fight.
There’s been a little too much of that lately and, quite frankly, the First Level grows weary of it after awhile.
“Echost, huh? It’s nice to meet you, too,” they remark when he finally finishes, leaning back and crossing one leg over the other in their usual casual sitting position with a friendly smile gracing their features.
“Yeah, I used to work for that ol’ Wizeguy - not anymore, though. I left Nightmare ages ago,” NiGHTS explains. They honestly aren’t sure how long it’s been at this point - the time blurs together after awhile. “I’m spending most of my time helping out the Visitors, nowadays. It’s apparently my calling.”
Oh, hello they’re tuning him out. Guess NiGHTS isn’t a fan of rambling thoughts-- he’ll try to keep it down in the future.
“Oh, you left Wizeman’s rule? I have to say, that’s the first time I’ve heard of that happening! Well, welcome to the side of light then! I’m sure if a certain someone wasn’t in slumber they’d greet you in a heartbeat.”

Amazingly, I haven’t had to act on my job in a few billions of years!”
“God I hope so…“ Nereus muttered. After all, the last he knew, she had been up in the coliseum, watching the matches.
“What about your teammates? You might as well tell me what they look like so I can do the same for you.“
Yeah, funny story, Griffon Grimm did not enjoy it when someone else with flight invaded their air. Melia took down one just as someone called out (bird-lady? really?), and turned just in time to see them slam another of the winged demons in to a building.
“Hey.“ She gave a tired smile. “Thanks for that.“
“There’s three of ‘em, and all of them are Faunus. First is Jinhai, he’s our leader. I dunno what kind of Faunus he is, but he’s got bat wings. Or dragon wings. One of the two. He wears a lot of yellow and uses tonfas. Silver is a wolf Fauns, he’s got a tail, he fights using a spear-ax thing. Last is Alani, the lone female of our group. She fights with giant firsts, for lack of a better term. She’s also a gecko faunus, an’ she’s got a large tail she uses to smack people and Grimm. If she’s around, it’ll be kinda obvious as she’ll most likely be cackling.” Adam states.
“No problem, lady!” Alani bellows, casually incinerating that Griffon with a fireball launched from her claw-gauntlet-things. “Alani Kouhau, at yer service! Brawler an’ almost-professional kicker of Grimm ass!”
There’s a few more Gryphons in the area. “Kick the remanin’ Grimm butts and then chat for a bit? It looks like ya need some downtime from these guys tryn’ ta eat ya.” She strikes a random pose, grinning with her tail gently oscillating behind her.
“If you see a short girl with sort of artificial wings that has short blonde hair, let me know.“ Nereus replied. “None of us have been able to get a hold of her–Melia is her name. I know where my other two teammates are at.“
He was nervous, and tired. You could see it in his face that he was starting to run low on energy, and the way his tail wrapped around his leg gave way to his nerves. It had been a long night, and it wasn’t over yet.
“I’ll keep an eye out for her.” Adam states. He’s not all that worried. This is just a worse-than-average Grimm assault to him. It’s not the worst thing he’s encountered, but it is definitely up there.
“Hey, we’ll find her. If she’s got artificial wings an’ is still kicking, I doubt she’s dead. People like that are fighters in their own ways.”
In the city, a girl runs. Somehow she needed to get to Beacon, that’s where Adam ended up. The other two were helping civilians get to safer areas. The metal claws on her leg armor klink against the ground as she sprints, sending up sparks with each step. She rounds the corner to see a winged Faunus-- one about to be smacked into from behind by a Griffon. “WATCH IT, BIRD-LADY!” She bellows as she lunges towards the Grimm, grabbing it around the neck with her weapons-- large, mechanized hands-- and flinging it into a nearby wall.

Nereus didn’t even have time to answer before two ships arrived at the docks. Their engines slowed as they hovered where they were, doors opening to allow the next wave of students onboard.
“I think that answers your question?“ The faunus grinned over his shoulder at the other. He then took off at a job towards the ships, wanting to get there before they filled and left without them again.
“Eh. Yeah, it does.” Adam follows after Nereus, easily sliding onto one of the ships. Both of his swords are in their sheathes.
He plans to spend this ride keeping his muscles warmed up. So, despite the fact that it’s a bit cramped on the ship, he stretches his limbs and does a small bit of shadow-boxing. “Hey, who should I keep an eye out for? I mean, I got the three people I’m lookin’ out for, but I might as well add your partners to the list, yeah?”
Well, he wasn’t exactly a local. But he had certainly been here long enough to know where things were. So Nereus gave a curt nod at the offer to work together.
At this point it was probably suicide to try and fight on your own against this many Grimm and White Fang.
“The docks are just around the corner. They’ve started shuttling students off Beacon grounds and back to the city. It shouldn’t be that hard to get a ride back to downtown.“ The faunus relayed as he shifted his daggers back to pistols and began to lead the way.
“Lead on, friend Nereus.” Adam states.
The working sword is placed back in it’s sheath, as as he runs after the other Adam starts tinkering with the jammed blade. There’s quite a bit of muffled swearing as he smacks the sword a few times.
They smack it against a passing wall and it revs back into life. “Hahah! Success! Take that, damned Grimm dust. See what you get for jamming my damned blade.....” Ah, there’s the docks. “So how long’s it gonna take to get to Vale proper?”
Nereus turned as the shot rang out. He hadn’t exactly felt threatened. If Adam had wanted to harm him, he would have done so during their fight against the grimm and robots. Not now.
“Thanks for that. I owe you one, Adam.“ The faunus replied, watching the giant bird go up in smoke.
“If your teammates are anywhere, they’ll probably be back in Vale proper. The schools being evacuated because some massive dragon is headed this way. And it’s bringing a lot of Grimm with it.“
“Think nothing of it! From finally seein’ the world, us Faunus gotta help each other out when we can! Sans those ‘White Fang’ assholes. They’re giving us a bad name.” The Lion Faunus loads a new bullet with a practiced spin of the gun.
“A dragon, huh? Those things’re massive, accordin’ to myths. I guess we’d best get moving t’ town then! There’s a lot of people there who’d need protection, if nothing else.”
He cracks neck twice, sighing once. “I’m guessin’ if my nerdy friends are anywhere, it’s gonna be where there’s the most Grimm in the city. An’ you probably have people to look for as well, so.... Wanna team up an’ work together until we find them?” It’d be a hell of a lot easier to get around this place if he was with a local.
Hands on his knees as he bent slightly to catch his breath, the faunus offered up his name in return when asked.
“Nereus Castor.“ A beat passed. “I’m an opossum faunus.“
“And don’t mention it, I’m glad you took care of the pack of beowolves. Pistols and daggers only get you so far. But I don’t understand something, you said you were from Menagerie, right? What are you doing in Vale?“
“Ah, now that’s actually a pretty easy story to tell!” Adam replies.
His gaze turns predatory as he lowers his rifle, seemingly pointing it at Nereus’ head. It fires, and sends a Nevermore crashing into the ground just behind the other Faunus.
“We came to enter that tournament thing!” He chirps, a wide and fang-filled smile spreading across his face. “If only to show the rest of this world that those of us on Menagerie ain’t damned weaklings! But, well, news gets to our home very slowly an’ then I had to build that stupid airship out of scrap.... An’ then when we get here everything’s been shot to hell. So, I guess we’re just exploring the world, now! If I can find where the hell my team mates went.”
Robots? Robots he could deal with.
The two traded positions, and soon enough the opossum was taking out the robots like it was nobody’s business. Daggers were adept at slipping inbetween the joints where there was no armor, cutting primary wires and causing short circuits to happen.
“That makes two of us!“ Nereus responded as the last of the robots fell and the duo were granted a small moment of peace. “I’d give anything to be back in Vacuo right now.“
Aw man, Grimm dust had jammed one of his chainsaws. Great. Judging from how things were going-- just look at all the damage-- He wouldn’t get enough time to fix it. A quick flip in the air shifts it into a rifle, which soon rests over one of Adam’s shoulders.
Oh well, at least that cluster of Beowolves was dead. “Vacuo, eh? Never been there. Hey, thanks for dealin’ with all of those darn robots! Chainsaws an’ rifles ain’t the best tools for those things.”
He should probably introduce himself. “Since we got a break here, might as well share our names. I’m Adam Nemeus, A lion Faunus. An’ you?”

“No last name? That’s a bit odd. Anyways, it’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Weiss!” Jinhai responds, bowing slightly from his seated position. “….Nicetomeetyouaswell.” Silver mumbles, words rushing out of his mouth in a jumble.
“As for getting one’s bearings, I think we’re about a day’s walk away from a town– if you don’t mind hiking through Grimm-filled woods and a bit of a climb. You can probably get directions to Haven from there.” Silver has slinked back to the fire, and has resumed tending the roasting rabbits. He keeps glancing over at Weiss, worry apparent in his eyes.
“I have a weapon with me and after went down in Vale…i think i can handle myself fairly well. She smiled warmly at Silver to assure him all is well and that he had nothing to fear from her. “What brought you to Atlas?”
“Travelling the world!” Jinhai practically bellows. “We were going to go to Vale, but some Nevermores and a wayward wind current blew our airship off course. And eventually blew me and Silver overboard!” Silver sighs. “Our friends should be near. We’re searchin’ for them.” He was still wary around Weiss. But, that was a disarming smile. “Yes, yes, that. We’ve been wandering in the wilds for about a week now. I know we’ll find our two companions once we find a town that’s been dealing with lots of small thefts.”
At the appearance of the traveler, Silver squeaks and scuttles backwards.
Of course, this sends Jinhai into a fit of laughter for a while. It takes a few moments for the young man to calm down. “Hhhhheheheh…. Sure, traveler! It’s fine with me, if you don’t mind sharing food and tales with a pair of Faunus!” Jinhai gets off of his stomach and folds his wings around himself. “Please, have a seat by the fire and warm yourself up. It’s quite chilly in this part of the world, after all.” He glances over at Silver cowering in the distance. “I’m Jinhai Aokawa, and my spooked companion is Silver Beowolf-Fang. We’re travelers from Menagerie.”
“I see, it’s a pleasure to meet the two of you.” Weiss smiled softly and settled by the fire carefully. “My name is Weiss and it’s a pleasure to meet the two of you. I’m going to be heading to Haven academy once i get my bearings. My Father yanked me out of Beacon after what went down.” She explained.
