Our Story centers around conservation, as a project started through strategic initiatives of Gauteng Provincial Government and the efforts of enthusiastic more than 170 landowners. Together they developed the concept that Eco-tourism could become the source for upliftment of rural communities through sustainable employment. Situated within the boundaries of a large metropolis the Dinokeng Game Reserve has the potential to become a model for future conservation where people and wild animals live in harmony. And it is on the way to prove itself as an example for successful transformation with so far more than 800 permanent jobs created for people living in the adjoining communities. The name of the Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) is derived from the languages of the baTswana and baPedi people who traditionally inhabited the area. Meaning “a place of rivers”, Dinokeng lies in the catchment area of two rivers that flow into the Olifants and Limpopo rivers and on to the Indian Ocean.The DGR is situated on the north eastern quadrant of the Gauteng Province of South Africa between latitudes 25°40’00”S and 25°10’00”Sand longitudes 28°15’00”E and 28°40’00”E comprising currently 18 500 ha.The DGR area experiences summer rainfall patterns in the form of thunder storms which can be variable and erratic. Rainfall varies from 350mm to 750mm per season. Temperatures vary between 0° and 40° with a long term daily average of 21°. The Dinokeng Game Reserve is Malaria-free

Dinokeng Game Reserve Voluntary Rangers A group of individuals with a passion for nature conservation – many of them SANParks Honorary Rangers – have formed this group to support the Dinokeng Game Reserve Management in their endeavors to make the Dinokeng Game Reserve a world class reserve. In a short space of time this enthusiastic group has established “The Den”, a fully equipped bushveld campsite and conservation training facility, within the DGR. The den is the hub for their activities. Dinokeng Volunteer Rangers have a duty roster to ensure that their members rotate their responsibilities towards the DGR. They spend mostly weekend and holiday time in the Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) conducting training courses, promoting conservation and actively patrolling and supporting management on the ground. Apart from patrolling the Self Drive Route (and enjoying the time in the bush) the DVR play a major role in the reserve’s community upliftment activities. Amongst other they have facilitated practical courses for learners from schools that are close to the DGR. Kwalata Adventure Camp has established itself over the last 20 years, presenting  Adventure & Leadership programs. The camp site dedicated and purposely built for school & youth groups. The theme — adventure in the bush veld, where evening camp fires and early morning coffee takes president. Situated in the Dinokeng Big5 reserve, our environment, learning about ourselves & others are central to all our activities.

We offer the Luxury of Camping in our Tented Camp which will be setup for your Exclusive use, group, friends break away, Family Camp or Birthday in the bush. “Popup Camping, a new Way of Exploring the wild in remote locations” 

A popup camp is just as the name describes – a camp which only exists for a short period of time. The idea behind a popup camp is to experience a remote location or Event Accommodation. This gives us the opportunity to offer guests the wilderness, Bush veld experience in our Tented Camp. 

Our Popup Camp is designed to give the average person the opportunity to explore outside their comfort zone.  Explore the wild side by camping in the bush and get out of the fenced areas, We offer the opportunity to camp in the Dinokeng Big 5 Reserve without fences get close to nature and explore the other side. .

Our Camp Setup

Our Mobile camp consists of 50 -100 canvas cottage tents accommodating up to 200 people each with 2x Sturdy Stretchers with Mattress, Comforter, Fitted sheet, and Pillow, led light, groundsheet and 2x chairs. We also have 2 x 5m x 10m Army tents which can be used for dining areas or sleeping space. Our smaller 5mx5m dual-purpose army tents can be used for Common area, Kitchen area or …….. Chairs and Tables, Stretch Tents for shade are also available
