have not stopped thinking about this moment btw. i will surely have coherent thoughts and contributions after a while but i am just. processing. god. you don't get it vyncent struggles with his words so much it is so hard for him to express his feelings so he always chooses to express himself through his actions instead. "i'm not going to leave you now i'm here" is as good as a declaration for him. the devotion to keeping william safe from himself, the assertion that he is going to be by his side in spite of everything that william has done and is going to do. vyncent headbutted the guard without a second thought because william asked him to. vyncent punched david because he hurt william and didn't care. vyncent yelling at william's parents because will asked him to get them out of the room for the conversation. will's mother calling vyncent his bodyguard. the absoluteness with which vyncent stays resolutely with william throughout the episode because he failed to do it before. william has been his worst self and vyncent saw it, and he chose to stay when william said he was going to do it again. william tried to push vyncent away. he was about to do the only thing that he did to xavier that vyncent truly did not know the extent of. vyncent chose to stay. vyncent has seen the worst and most twisted parts of william, insisted on seeing them, and at the end of it all, the last line of the episode before bizly calls it is condi saying "i follow behind." and the thing is william recognises how significant it is that vyncent is saying he won't leave. he chokes up. he has to repeat it to himself to process it. and of course it means a lot to him in the sense of his friend who has seen the most fucked up parts of him staying by his side and refusing to let him be alone in his mistakes, but this is also the guy he's half in love with. and somehow, in spite of everything, he's not fucked it. i don't think vyncent is conscious, fully, or maybe is trying not to be aware, of why he so committed to william. i don't think william is in a state where he can even comprehend how much vyncent cares for him. i don't know if he consciously recognises what vyncent means when he says this. but the significance is not lost on him.
