baraji

Baraji is a purely Korean word, meaning “to support whole-heartedly, both materially and spiritually”. Here, it refers to the assiting voices to the main voice provided by accompanists during a traditional musical performance. The sound of baraji is especially maximized in the purification rituals of Jindo Island, in itself a unique musical style. The team Baraji will employ this particular technique as the major source of their performance. In addition, they strive to create new sounds, by adding percussion, instruments, and singing that can communicate with the modern audience.
