Fuck that anon. I came for the art, but there's nothing wrong with learning from someone using their platform for good! If you don't mind, I wunna hear more abt what Virago is/your OCs!
Hey, thanks for taking an interest in my art. I really appreciate the kind message! No clue what that anon was all about the other day ☠️
but for my OCs, you know I'll take any excuse to yap about them lol.
To answer your question about Virago
I'm still new to the community and figuring out my identity so I'm no expert on the topic but I'll try my best...
In short, Virago is a genderqueer identity for women who tend to be more masculine-aligned (although there are virago who are androgynous or feminine) and who are attracted to gender non-conforming/feminine-aligned men.
You can be het, bi or pan and be virago.
Speaking for myself I grew up tomboyish, tried to be hyperfemme to fit in but struggled to feel comfortable with my gender expression, now I'm leaning towards masculine.
I also have a very strong preference for feminine men.
If you want to learn more about this identity
@viscasi , @viragoposting and @prof-zunoshade are your go tos. 💪
You didn't specify which OCs you wanted to know more about so I'll introduce the ones I've been drawing lately. 🤔
I share this pair of characters with my friend Xeno who Matty belongs to.
Although I've mostly drawn them in a modern day setting, these two actually started as characters for a Space Opera story.
Yui (she/her) is the captain of a pirate crew and Matty (he/him) is an engineer she rescued off of a corporate starship.
In short their dynamic is jock x nerd. Zuno once joked that Yui is whipped for Matty and they're right lmfao.
But although I love all of the characters I share with Xeno, these two inadvertently allowed me to explore my gender identity and who I'm attracted to so I'm really quite fond of them.
I've had them floating around my head for years but I didn't get the motivation to draw them until recently. Their story is set in the late 80s where supernatural beings live in human society.
Sigrun (she/her) is a werewolf who's the bassist of a band called the Rougaroux and Cecil (he/him) owns a lounge that caters to other creatures of the night.
Although Sigrun is visibly larger and more intimidating, she pretty much follows Cecil around like a lovesick puppy.
These two have both been alive for much longer and I'd like to explore the different eras of their lives in my art; from the Middle Ages to where they are now. In another life Sigrun was a viking warrior and Cecil royalty.
These two are my most recent-ish characters. They both started as DND characters but since the campaign with my group fell through I adopted them as regular OCs.
Stryga is a knight whose blind loyalty to a mad king led her to her death. After being ressurected by a lich and spending her undeath without purpose, she finds herself vowing to protect Nostromos, a runaway noble whose magic is the only thing keeping her from falling back into a pile of bones.
Nostromos was born into a powerful line of priestesses and is gifted with immense magical talent himself, but in drow society being blind and male means he has no claim to succession. Instead, his family raised him to be an ideal political bride. He has other plans though, and may have sparked a bloody struggle for succession that he used as cover to escape.
I love a good knight and villainess/princess dynamic, just made it gothic with reversed roles.
Funny enough, I came up with most of these characters before I found the virago/HetGC labels. I was always just drawn to these dynamics, I suppose.
If anyone wants to ask more about my characters I'll happily yap about them lol.
