Panem et circenses

If you don't like thrashy movies, weird shit and Hip Hop you can stop reading because this movie is not for you. I showed this movie to my wife, who has typically the same taste as myself, and she did not enjoy this movie. But if you are okay with crazy characters, bad CGI-effects and just a basic story (gangs fighting for their turf in Tokyo) and has a love for Beats and Rhymes, this is your movie. This awesome Hip Hop musical will pull you in and give you an excellent time and some great music to put on your playlists afterwards. Got me back into (Japanese) Hip Hop and I don't regret it since today.

After getting better in backing Japanese milk bread I tried my luck with brioche and was quite happy with the outcome. It got super fluffy and was still fresh and soft a few days later. I get a better feeling for the doughs and when it's kneaded enough.

Made some delicious cold curry udon (link to the recipe below) perfect for the current hot temperatures outside. Did replace some ingredients (no eggplant, mizuna, and tomatoes, instead used mushrooms and arugula). When we started cooking we realized that we were out of Japanese curry roux and had to make our own. We were a little bit afraid at the beginning with just cooking butter and flour for up to 20 minutes, but it worked quite well. Now we have roux leftover and are planning on making a curry with this next weekend it so.

This as such a beautiful anime with a story that is at the same time heartwarming and tragic. Although the style might not be the favorite for everyone, I really liked the animations inspired by watercolor paintings and it fits the story of the girl growing up in Japan, struggling with life, family and other problems.

As soon as you realize which corner of the world the story takes place, you probably will know what tragic events might happen but this gave me a good opportunity to observe the characters in anticipation of what will happen. Compared to a Ghibli Movie that has the same setting, this helped me to better understand the motivations, feelings and mindset of the characters and partially the way Japanese cope with their past.

By the way the song of the trailer, one of my favorite songs at the moment is Kanashikute Yarikirenai by Kotringo

I made some Kare Pans (Japanese Curry Breads) in our airfryer. I used the recipes from Just one Cookbook for the filing and the bread but had to adjust the time and temperature for the frying. I put them in for two times 6 min (turning them upside down after the first round) at 160°C and this worked pretty well.
