Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes

Hunter looked down rubbing his lips together, he felt bad being so hard on him. But he had no choice. He looked down at his feet. “Are you trying to set me up on a date? Set up a breeding programme?” He huffed. “I’m sorry… the supernatural is just… a sore spot in our house.” 

Brad gave him a small smile, he had so much to make up for and he wanted to. “I mean, she’s hot, if I was going to do that, I’d try my luck first,” he joked. “I’m sorry too... for so much, brother. I know, it always has been.”

Hunter sighed, he wanted to make things right. But that would involve ignoring that his brother had been gone all that time. “Yeah your life was so terrible, all that attention and love and parents being proud. Sucks to be you.” He clicked his tongue. “Except Hunter now turns into a giant wolf once a month and fuck… it’s big.” 

Brad knew he had ruined their relationship, he’d been gone so long. He didn’t expect rebuilding it to be easy but he was going to try. “Hey, hey, everyone has their things. I don’t pretend to know how you feel but you are not in my head either. So don’t do that. I don’t belittle your feelings. I came straight here... ‘cause that message fucking scared me and I love you.” He nodded. “It is big... but believe me, I will help. I even... met this girl, a wolf, she seems pretty cool.”

“I… I don’t know. Why did you leave?” He rubbed his lips together. “I just… don’t want this. I don’t want to be part of a pack. I just want… to be Hunter. I’m human.” 

“Dad. Pressure... him always wanting to use me for my magic. Expecting me to do everything he wanted. That’s not me. I don’t want to show off in front of a butch of old witches,” he sighed. “I wish... I could help you, brother. But I, I see Hunter.”

She nodded, rubbing her lips together. “So you’re like… the male bewitched?” She knew a few witches, they loved to talk about their magic. “That living beings like to get busy.”

Brad’s brows furrowed, shaking his head. “No idea, never seen it,” he told her. “Oh yeah, that. It’s literally in all our nature.”

“Ah… so you’re a cross breed.” She joked. “And suddenly things are making more sense. I am shook. I should’ve figured it out sooner.”

“I mean... yeah? Mom is a wolf, dad is a witch. It was a toss up of what I would be,” he laughed. “Yeah? I shook you, huh? What is making sense?”

“Thank you.” She nodded her head, her saddened eyes flickering to the floor quickly. “But you’re… not a wolf?” She asked. “Ah, you know… werewolves get busy if they have the chance.”

Brad nodded, he didn’t need to say anything more about her parents. He could see the sadness in her eyes. “No, I’m not. I got my powers from my father... magic,” he told her. “I think that’s living beings in general.”

“I think you just have.” He dragged his finger down his cheek, pretending to cry. “I would never do that. Ah… so you’re just mean then.” 

“You hold it together, bud. Don’t cry in front of me,” he gave a small laugh. “Never, I believe you. I never said I was nice.”

“But you are… You were for your whole life.” He shrugged, looking down at his feet. “Unless you have a magic wand that makes werewolves better there’s no getting me through this, it’s me now.” 

“Reluctantly... why do you think I left? He just... pushed. I don’t want him exploiting how strong my powers are,” he admitted. “I... damn. I mean... believe me. The thought has crossed my mind. Witches... made the gene.”

Hunter glanced at his brother. “I don’t want to become mom’s protege. I don’t want to be anyone’s protege. I just want… to be me. I’m not this, i’m not you.” He shook his head. “At the moment mom and dad’s basement. She’s out the full moon… he spends most of his time worrying about her. They didn’t bother checking the human kid.”

“I get it, I do... no more than I want to be dad’s... or used by him.” He sighed. “You are you, I see you, brother.” He looked at him. “Then... we get a place. Together. Here. I’ll stick around. Help you through this.”

“I’ve fallen for you deeply. How could you tell?” He laughed to himself. “I look at a lot of people and think they’re stupid? Don’t need a degree to come to that conclusion mate.” 

“Aww, mate. How do I let you down gently and tell you I’m into girls?” he joked along with the male. He wasn’t shy. “Is this where you tell me I look stupid? Must admit, I don’t have a degree and I judge people,” he laughed.

“It’s fine. I’m the one who joked about it.” She smiled slightly. “Ah…She lives by the turn of the moon. Yeah… I am Gerry’s sister. So if you’re fishing yes, I am a werewolf.” 

“I know... but I’m not going to joke about it. It’s your mom.” He gave her a gentle smile. “Yeah, yeah. My mom is a wolf... so guess, I am somewhere. Vampires have told me I have a confusing smell,” he laughed. “Sister, huh? Sounds like a story there.”

“I’m not known for my modesty.” She laughed, grinning at the witch. “I mean… probably every normal human being. It can get a bit weird using magic to cook.”

“No? Well, I could get to know you more,” he grinned back at her. “I mostly live on my own. No one to judge me. Though I am joking to a degree,” he laughed.

“I am a joy. I have been known to cause a smile.” She winked, she had no issue flirting with the man. “Ah… i understand. Melting cheese? now that’s one i’ve never attempted.”

“Modest, huh?” he laughed gently, she seemed to be reciprocating his flirting. “Yeah, who needs to make grilled cheese in a pan when you have fire at your fingertips.”

“Oh now that i can relate to. But you know they’re dead now so guess i’m free to do as i please. Yippee.” She glanced over at him sarcastically. “Like your mom? She’s… also tanned and hairy?” 

“Yeah? Oh... shit. I’m sorry, Hazel.” He gave a sad smile. He paused, wondering if he should say. Though if she was relate to Gerry, there was a good chance she was the same. “Well, she’s hairy on a certain time of the month.”

“Many people say that.” She grinned at the witch. “You know what i’m talking about. But i won’t press.” She nodded, not wanting to bother him. If he wanted to keep his magic to himself that was prerogative. “Very handy.” 

“I’m sure they do daily, you must make people smile frequently,” he grinned back at her. He was flirting, he knew he was. He couldn’t help himself. “I do. Little gift I was born with. I keep it on the down low.” He nodded. “I know right? Lighting a cigarette is easy. So is melting cheese.”

“I do try.” She could feel the man’s magic, but she didn’t want to press. She half laughed at his words, although was pretty aware that wasn’t funny. “it’s no problem. I want to help. Especially someone who is… like me.”

“Well, you’re doing something right,” he laughed. He could sense her magic but he wasn’t going to ask... he hated when anyone did that to him. “We’ve just met and I’m like you?” he asked, though he knew what she was getting at. “I can make fire with my fingers.”

“Sorry.” Aria laughed gently, she was guessing from his reaction that perhaps she had been barking up the wrong tree. She rubbed her lips together, glancing back at the store. “Sorry, yes. I think i mistook you for somebody else… i had a rough night, if you get my drift.” 

“Don’t be sorry. I’m just checking you’re okay.” His eyes fell to the necklace around her neck, he felt drawn to it. “Usually when one says that... a little thing called alcohol was involved? Buying supplies for your head?” He nodded. “Don’t worry about it. I’m Brad, anyway.”
