I haven’t done anything

I said I would

this month

.

But I’m happy

and here we

and there August goes

.

Create

even when you're tired

Give

even when you have nothing left

Go further

even when you don't think you can

And love

I can still feel your skin

against my skin

and your heart

against my heart

and your head

against my head

.

I tried to get up early

this morning, but

between the fog and

these three prints of you,

If I could sing down the stars for you

I would

if I could dance you up to rooftops

.

If I could walk you to the moon

I would

Giving peace a chance

shouldn’t be something

we have to fight for

.

It’s not too much to ask

to want to feel safe

when I walk out my door

.

Maybe if I loved a little harder

listened a little longer

gave a little more

.

Peace would come naturally

and it wouldn’t be something

There’s beauty to be found

in looking back

There’s beauty to be found

in letting go, too

.

Nothing’s wrong with appreciation

for past me

and learning is how

we get to whether we need to be

.

Letting the past suffocate the now

is not where anyone needs to be

I’m letting go

I’m letting myself be free

.

I’ve learned what I can

there’s no need to go back

there’s plenty of now

I’m ready for work early

so outside I go

to sit under the blanket of fog

and hear the birds start their day

Today I strive to move,

speak, and think

with the grace of the birds

as they fly high above my quiet thoughts

.

I’m meant to be here

right here, taking up space

feeling the weight I create

as I sit against this chair

there’s no shame anymore

as I’m meant to breathe this air

I’m here and I’m free

to feel everything I can

.

Throughout this month of August

I’d like to try and see

what I can create

when I’m free to be me

No judgment, apprehension,

fear, or nagging voice

when I step outside, put pen to paper,

open my mind

and allow myself to bloom

.

With August used to come dread

but that’s no longer my story

so I’m ready to start over
