Balam Shichiro, Head of Imaginary Things Research and mythical zoology teacher at Babyls Demon School. If you've got any problems or questions, I've usually got a pot of tea brewing.
My name is Balam Shichiro, I work as a teacher of mythical zoology at Babyls Demon School. I'm also in charge of the Imaginary Things Research Division, and occasionally substitute for teachers of other subjects as necessary. My specialty fields are netherworld biology, mythical zoology and the study of Evil Cycles.
Since many of our students are here on Devilblr these days, we the faculty have been asked to establish a presence on the platform to monitor things and ensure student safety. So if you ever need anything my ask box, and my door, are always open. If you'd prefer to talk in person, I can usually be found in the biology lab. Please don't hesitate to stop by!
Welcome!
This here is an rp blog for Balam-sensei from Osamu Nishi's Mairimashita! Iruma-kun / Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun. This is a side blog, so I'll be following back from @leadingwoman.
About the mod:
Mod is 18+ and willing to write with minors so long as we avoid nsfw topics and material. By all means tell me about your ships, but let's steer clear of the sexy stuff yeah?
I've got roughly 20 years or so of experience writing and rp'ing online, but I'm pretty rusty doing it on tumblr. I may not be fully up-to-date on the etiquette and stuff so please let me know if I mess up somewhere!
I also work a job that doesn't let me answer asks on the clock, so I might take a while to respond sometimes. I promise I'm not ignoring anyone, and you'll never bother me by messaging! I will get to answering as soon as I am able. (I'm also a bit low-energy at times due to autism etc, which may factor in.)
Some general stuff to keep in mind:
- I will not be writing nsfw of any kind on this blog. At most I may get descriptive about something like an injury if anyone gets one of those, or engage with some mildly suggestive jokes. Both these things will be tagged appropriately. Any suggestive jokes will also most likely be made exclusively with other adult characters. Balam's a little too mindful of his role as a teacher to go discussing such things with his students. (Unless y'all want to ask the biology teacher some sex ed questions lmao???)
- I am up-to-date with the latest chapter of the manga, and will reference and answer questions about events that happen in recent chapters. Beware of potential spoilers!
- As our information about Balam's private life is pretty limited, I will be basing a good chunk of my portrayal on my personal headcanons. These may hit a little close to au territory at times since I like to pick apart worldbuilding and play with it, but nothing too crazy.
- As part of the headcanons mentioned above, I have pretty solid ideas on what Balam's relationships look like in terms of romance. Outside of what I've established with my partner, I will not be open to writing ships at this time. Sorry to disappoint any of you.

[Kyo barely noticed the clock ticking away, his hands and mind too occupied with the study materials. Read, note, summarize, connect information, pause to give his body some time to breathe, and repeat. The sun was at its peak, signaling noon, when he realized just how hungry he'd gotten.]
[Marking off the book he was reading -Advanced Combat Stratgies- Kyo leaned back and did a careful stretch, not wanting to pull on his injuries, old and recent. Rolling his hand to ease the cramps, he surveyed his work. The practice psychology test had been completed and any mistakes marked out for later. He'd made progress on reading about Netherworld history, finding out some interesting facts along the way, and had began on the strategy book. That should be enough for now.]
[Getting up on shaky legs, Kyo rubbed his eyes and decided to head to the kitchen. Passing the study along the way.]
The study had, indeed, kept an open door. It showed signs of having been used. All those ungraded assignments from earlier were, even from out in the hallway, clearly graded and neatly stacked to be returned to all the students that they belonged to.
It was, however, empty.
The only voices in the house came from the kitchen. One of which was Kalego's.
"Be honest. She sent you home to ensure we didn't die of starvation or food poisoning."
"She sent me home," a deeper voice with a curiously metallic muffle laughed, "because we thought you might be more comfortable with some backup. And I'm always honest."
"A point forever in your favour," said Kalego, "so choosing lunchtime had nothing at all to do with my kitchen ban then?"
[Kyo paused at the kitchen entrance, standing in the shadows with his back to the wall. From the sounds alone, it sounded like Sir Kalego was helping get some ingredients while the other man, who he could only assume was Balam Shichiro, did most of what sounded like cooking.]
[The young man's breath hitched a he finally dared to look at the other man. He'd been expecting it evet since he heard that Sir Balam was a Balam, but seeing it in real time– the towering build, the talons, the white hair-]
[Blindsided by his memory overlapping the two men, Kyo didn't notice he'd fully stepped into the doorway until the name left his lips.]
Both of the men inside turned to look at him. The stranger really did look a lot like Banhachi - at least the half of his face that can be seen does. For some reason, a mask covered his mouth and nose.
"That's right," the man chuckled, "you and dad went to school together."
He wiped his hands before pulling his gloves back on. Turning around, he stepped over to the door and offered the teen his hand for a handshake.
"I'm Shichiro, Banhachi's son. It's nice to meet this version of you, Kyo-kun."
[Kyo gave him a firm handshake, mentally defaulting the man to 'Sir'.]
"Likewise, sir." [He said, a small, barely there tint on his cheeks from his earlier mistake. The more he looked, the more the man, Sir Shichiro, -save for the mask, but Kyo wasn't about to ask about it- looked like his father. Kyo felt an ache in his chest right as he thought that. 'I must still be injured,' he decided, not knowing what else to make of the feeling.]
[Realizing how long he must’ve been staring, Kyo let go of the man's hand. Looking towards the kitchen utensils, he couldn't help but ask,] "Are you planning on cooking something?"
[Oh. Not knowing what to do with himself, Kyo devcided to wait at the table. He wanted to offer to help set the table, but trying to offer help when he didn't know where anything was would just be a bother. So Kyo sat down on one of the chairs instead.]
[He watched as Sir. Shichiro began to fry the eggs, the smell making his mouth begin to water. In his distraction, be almost missed his name being said.]
"Kyo?" Kalego repeated. He only continued when it was obvious that Kyo heard him. "Do you want to help me set the table, or would you prefer to stay seated?"
"I can help." [Kyo said, getting up while ignoring the subtle ache in his leg that likely came from an old injury or scar. Now that he thought about it, maybe he should ask them where the first-aid kit was so he could change his bandages.]
[He found some silicone pads and other things in the house -which he later surmised belonged to his older self, whom Kyo now had a very low opinion about- but those would eventually have to be changed.]
[He blinked, surprised the man had noticed since Kyo often took care to hide his injuries. Nevertheless he nodded quietly, his expression remaining unchanged, and continued to help set the table.]
If anyone was going to notice that, it made a lot of sense for it to be a Naberius who also knew the same ways to hide something like that from others.
He noticed because he could spot it within his own behaviour.
And he knew that it was something that Kyo may not want pointed out and spoken of all that loudly or obviously.
Afterwards, Kalego simply worked with Kyo to set the table, like nothing had happened.
[Once done, the two sat down again and waited for the food. It smelt heavenly, and Kyo was only getting hungrier. Not that he let that show however. The dogs however, Cerberion and Cerberus, had picked up on it.]
[Kyo did not use the chains on them, only resorting to that when he needed to keep his emotions under control. Not that the young man didn't now, but here it wasn't a sudden new environment like the house he woke up in had been. Nor had Kyo been given startling news in succession like before.]
[So he and Sir Kalego sat and awaited their food. Cerberus and Cerberion awake but inactive inside Kyo.]
It was only a minute or so later that Shichiro put the big pan of fried rice on the table.
"There you go!" He smiled. "Dig in."
Before sitting down, he headed back to the fridge to fetch a pitcher of coldbrewed tea. It was still pretty hot this summer, and they'd better stay hydrated.
[Kyo was the second to help himself to a portion, fighting the urge to eat it all in one go as he took his first bite. The ingredients were simple, nothing fancy, but there was something about the food that made him want to eat as much of it as possible-!]
[...And a part of that both surprised and scared him. Kyo rarely felt this way about food or eating since most of his meals these days took place in the mess hall or cafeteria, where he oftentimes sat alone; or before that, in the Naberius clan base where every meal was silent and the food prepared by the servants.]
[And so he paced himself. Eating calmly and quiet.]
[Kyo paused his eating, looking down at his half-finished plate before he replied.] "It's fine, sir. There are some differences compared to what I've learned, but I'm not facing any issues."
[It might have sounded ridiculous to some, but Kyo very much considered studying his pastime. Since there wasn't much to do back in the Naberius base growing up; between practicing his magic and wandering the halls aimlessly, passing by the training halls and occationally peeking in, more often then not, Kyo found himself back at the library. Reading even after his studies were completed for the day.]
[It'd gotten him both praise and dismissal from the elders once he started to pull ahead, using the time he should have spent training a Bloodline Ability they weren't even sure was going to manifest. That habit of his later became somewhat of a routine. One Kyo naturally took with him once he enrolled in Babyls, letting him maintain a consistently high grades across all his subjects.]
"Good. I'm glad. You're, of course, allowed to visit the library as much as you want too."
Kalego actually gave a small smile, then that smile slipped off his face as he looked next to him; where Shichiro had not been eating. "Shichiro, it's just Uncle. De-aged or not. It's fine, isn't it?" He looked and sounded fondly exasperated.
"Well... I suppose that's true..." Shichiro mumbled reluctantly.
[Kyo, for his part, to show he wouldn't be bothered with whatever the other men likely had under his mask without really saying so, went back to eating again.]
[Kyo barely noticed the clock ticking away, his hands and mind too occupied with the study materials. Read, note, summarize, connect information, pause to give his body some time to breathe, and repeat. The sun was at its peak, signaling noon, when he realized just how hungry he'd gotten.]

He recieved looks of concern from both Shichiro and Aria, and Kalego gave a strange, strangled little noise. It might have been a sound of dismay, but it was hard to tell.
"Can I see your hand, buddy?" Shichiro asked, crouching down. Aria, trusting her husbands to have any potential pencil-stabs covered, fetched down bowls from a cabinet and started ladling food into them.
[Striking a pose, Iruma stopped dancing and held out his hand.] It's okay Mountain Birdy! It didn't stab-stab me! Just a pokey!
[True to his word, there was no pencil wound on his little hand. Just a tiny feather that got stuck to his skin and an old scar on his palm.] See? [He smiled.]
"I'm glad!" Shichiro smiled. He picked the boy up, intentionally holding him with the arm that placed him close to Kalego. "Let's be careful getting poked by things we find under dusty couches, okay? You never know. . ."

[Happily trotting over to Mountain Birdy, Iruma happily held up a fish shaped hell hen nugget.] I found Mountain Birdy food! [He says proudly, his free hand curled into a fist and placed on his hip.]
[Iruma was a tiny bit dusty...wonder where he found the nugget...?]
Shichiro crouched down as close to Iruma's height as he could get.
"So you did!" He accepted the small offering, looking the boy over. Oh dear, Aria wouldn't be thrilled with the dust so soon after his bath. "Where exactly did you find this thing, if I may ask-?"
[Taking the big birdys hand (more like his finger) he leads him over to the couch and gets to his knees. Crawling under he chirps a few times and rummages around for a moment or two until he popped his head out with a French fry in his mouth and a 5 vill coin in his hand.] Under here! Lotta treasures! [He smiles until some dust got in his nose.]
[Flinching he went to rub his nose when he suddenly sneezed in a kitten like manner.] Oh...! [He gasped in surprise.]
Someone had clearly skipped out on cleaning duty. Shichiro had returned to the prep room for some papers and let Iruma explore the staff lounge next door in the meantime. He'd only taken the boy with him to begin with so Aria could focus on dinner.
"Iru-kun," he had adopted his wife's change of adress for the boy pretty much as soon as Iruma had woken up from his nap, "please don't eat things you find in such dirty places. You could get sick. Aria-chan is making you plenty of tasty food for when we get home, okay?"
He picked the tiny boy up, doing his best to gently dust him off.
[Huffing at being dusted off, Iruma did his best to shake off the dust. But even then that only got the dust out of his hair somewhat.] Wasn't gonna eat it! It was just easier to carry. [He shrugged, only half lying.]
[Once he was dusted off well enough he smiled and looked around from the new height.] Tall... [ He whispered then looked up at the big birds he quickly started to like.] Oh! I found money...I think? You can have it!
"Thank you, let's do something nice with it, hmm?" Shichiro picked up his bag in his other hand and walked out of the building. The walk back to his house wasn't long, but he still made sure Iruma was carried close enough to not get cold on the way.
[As they walked, Iruma growled softly at the wind that blew into his face from time to time. Eventually he climbs onto Birdys shoulder and attempted to look over him but got distracted by the feathers around his neck.]
[Chirping curiously, he nuzzles into the feathers and cooed happily. Humming he rubs his face against them again then fully attempted to climb into them!]
Shichiro jumped slightly, but fortunately kept his grip on the boy.
"Oh, er, Iru-kun, that's my shirt-" There was a minute of awkward shuffling, then Iruma's little head was happily poking out of Shichiro's collar. Shichiro was pretty sure he'd seen people carry kittens this way. At least this way Iruma would be warm, he supposed as he continued towards the house.
Shichiro pulled open the door and stepped inside, wiping his talons on the mat. He hung up his bag and was just about to pull Iruma out of his shirt when he spotted the demon standing in the hall.
"Oh-!" He froze awkwardly, a slightly nervous grin on his face and the head of the toddler poking out of his collar. "You got home before us, I see-"
[Peeping curiously, Iruma tries to look around to see who Mountain Birdy was talking to but stopped when he spotted a small moth flying by his head. Quickly getting distracted by that he forgot about the new demon.]
Kalego went from staring at Iruma's head to looking at his husband's face. "I did," Kalego agreed, then he went back to staring at the toddler, like one might an object that may be likely to fall off a shelf but hasn't prompted immediate intervention yet.
"Aria explained the . . . situation." He seemed entirely unwilling to look away from Iruma. The look in his eyes shifted from the belief that Iruma would cause trouble, at least at the moment, to something that spoke more of preparing for trouble being caused Iruma instead or keeping both eyes on a baby in a bathtub, namely to avoid disaster.
The chances of Iruma ending up in trouble at present were, currently, essentially none. He was very much safe.
The look, however, remained. At least, it was a look that conveyed such things to Shichiro (and Aria), but to most others, it just looked like a scowl.
[Catching the moth in his mouth, Iruma giggled with his mouth closed and looked toward the new demon only to see that he was scowling at him.]
[Freezing he quickly let the moth out. Carefully climbing out of the feathers, he carefully climbs down and stands on his own two his feet before shuffling to stand next to Mountain Birdy.] 'm sorry... [He quickly apologized.]
Shichiro assisted the boy somewhat in climbing down, giving his husband a gentle warning look. He knew Kalego looked grumpy by nature, but he didn't want Iruma to be frightened of the man.
"There's no need to apologize," he said softly, leaning down to carefully lay a hand on top of the child's head. "Iru-kun, this is Kalego-kun. He's mine and Aria's husband, and he's not angry I promise. His face just looks like that."
Kalego cleared his throat. "Hello, Iruma." He paused. "You shouldn't eat moths."
[Pressing up into the hand, he smiled slightly and held the much bigger hand by the thumb and pinky.] So...not angry? [He asks softly. Hearing that he shouldn't eat moths he gave a small nod. He had to agree to that. Moths taste funny.]
[Iruma nodded with a smile.] Mhm! I almost fell from the kitty tree but Zian-oniichan caught me. He got hurt so I howled so someone would find us and then I met Pretty Kitty Lady and Mountain Birdy! [He grinned.] I was afraid of Mountain Birdy at first but I like 'im now! He's very nice and caring and-!
[Happily waving his arms around he started to get excited about talking about his day but he quickly stopped when he remembered to be polite. Clearing his throat he calms down a bit and rocks on his feet.] I had a very good day! [He nodded.]
"That's good," he said. "You were saying that Shichiro was nice and caring. Very correctly. Do you want to continue telling me about your day? You stopped in the middle of your sentence."
[Nodding his head he shuffles his feet a bit and looked up at Mountain Birdy before stepping up to the new demon - er - Kalego!] I had a bath today and I got ta...to use the tub and I had shampoo in my hair! [He smiled.] Pretty Kitty Lady...oh, uh...Aria-san, said it would sting if it got in my eyes but she kept it out of them! So it didn't sting.
[Jumping a bit in place, he nods happily and went to rush to the kitchen but stopped and quickly ran back to Mountain Birdy. Being very careful not to step on his talons, Iruma gave his leg a hug and a pat.]
[He then rushed over to Kalego and gave his leg a tight hug too then followed it up by a pat on the knee.] Yay. [He smiled before rushing into the kitchen...only to stop again and remove the shoes he had gotten earlier.]
[He set them by the wall upside down so the soles weren't touching the floor then ran into the kitchen.]
Shichiro gently ruffled Iruma's hair, then watched him run into the kitchen. Kalego seemed to have frozen on the spot.
"You still breathing over there-?" Shichiro prompted softly.
"Yes-" Kalego replied, but it sounded a little choked.
"You sure? Sorry, sorry-" Shichiro laughed a little, getting a pointed glare in return from his husband. "But you know, this could be a good opportunity for you."
"How so?" Kalego arched an eyebrow warily.
"I know you think you'd be a bad parent." Shichiro said it kindly. He didn't mean any offense, but Kalego wouldn't appreciate him beating around the bush either. "I know you feel out of your depth handling children. But hey, kid just hugged you and nobody died!"
He chuckled as Kalego gave him the flattest look in netherworld history.
"Jokes aside, Iru-kun will only be this little for a few days. He probably won't remember much of this once he's back to normal, either. Why not just. . . Give it your best shot? You could be pleasantly surprised!"
Kalego grumbled noncommittally, but Shichiro could see he was thinking it over. Good.
