In your opinion, are President Trump’s reasons for the U.S.–Iran war—like stopping Iran from making nuclear weapons, destroying its military power, and responding to its actions—enough to say that going to war is right or wrong?

This is a tough topic! Countries go to war for all kinds of reasons, and if we went to war because there was a country who was posing serious threat to my family, friends, and country, I would totally understand waging war!

However, what's important to remember is that none of the reasons the DOJ has given for this conflict have any proof behind them.

Starting with nuclear weapons, Iran has had a long standing religious doctrine called fatwa (read about it here) that declared the development, stockpiling, and use of nuclear weapons illegal under Islamic law.

Additionally, even the DOJ has admitted that Iran never had the capability nor intent to attack the mainland US (which you can read about here and here).

Now while the leaders of Iran say that fatwa may have changed if Iran was backed into a corner (say if Iran was attacked by the US and it's allies), Iran showed no signs of changing this, either by vote or by government behavior, disproving the statement that President Trump said about Iran developing nuclear weapons.

War is a difficult topic to rationalize, but the reasons Trump said we are going to war are not what he said they are. If I were going to guess about why we were going to war, I would guess that:

Israel pressured the US into attacking Iran for its own benefit

Trump may be hoping to provoke an Iranian attack for a Rally 'round the Flag Effect to save his party in the midterm elections

Distractions from the travesty that is the DOJ, the SAVE America Bill, ICE, and Epstein

Good ol' fashioned racism and Islamophobia

Control of oil for both decreased gas and energy prices and for the proliferation of non-renewable energy sources over renewables

Overall, if anything that Trump has said had any truth behind it, I would understand going to war, but the fact of the matter is that Iran was never going to attack us or even develop nuclear weapons. He is starting this war for reasons that I would seriously need to ask a historian, sociologist, or political scientist about.

He said that as to why the US is so involved with Israel that some Christians feel a need to protect the Jewish religion, hence why America is so closely allied with them.

Additionally, he reminded me that Iran isn't a democracy; it was ruled by a dictator who was killing protesters, and part of this is to replace the current regime with a new one that is less oppressive.

He agreed with me that this is also so that we can set a kind of banana republic that will sell us oil for better prices.
