Once again, just my opinions, but to me, In's grief and trauma have been so well written and illustrated, especially in the way they colour all of his life. And In being insecure about Wan and stepping aside makes so much sense to me because it doesn't matter how much Thap has consistently shown he loves In! It's about how In feels about himself because of everything that's happened to him and how that takes so much time to heal
I mean, his parents died on their way to check on him after he warned them about his vision. We've seen over and over that his grief and guilt over that is incredibly raw. We know he feels deeply about how he can only see people dying and never save them. (And, if he does, he's risking his own health, like he did with Thap)
This episode, he once again thought two people he loved would be taken from him, after yet another vision, and could only watch as someone else (Thap) helped them. (And in a car accident, like his parents, no less!)
And then, the thing he's started to fear the most happens. There is someone he loves deeply, after finally, reluctantly, letting them in in a way he never has before. A person who is helping him to slowly begin to heal his grief, a person he has seen die multiple times in his visions. And, on a night when he should have been celebrating a new year, and a new start to life, this person was shot right in front of him.
He saw it coming and he couldn't do anything. And at the hospital, he had to watch as Thap's ex-boyfriend (the one who broke up with Thap - not the other way around - because of a fortune teller saying they weren't soulmates) step in to save Thap while In was, once again, unable to do anything. (The observations on how the show has set up why In would feel insecure about Wan here are really good!)
So, to me, it's not about how Thap has demonstrated how he feels for In and In just ignoring that or being an idiot or something. It's not about Thap at all. In feels useless. He is merely a harbinger of death, never the salvation. I completely understand how this very young man, who, while he does have friends, has also isolated himself for a long time, shrouded in grief, who has foretold the death of this man he loves, would think that stepping away would be the best for everyone
Of course, I may feel differently with how it's handled next week, but In's actions this episode (might I add, he's still covered in Thap's blood when Wan comes in with the right blood type to save Thap) and from what I saw in the preview make total sense to me
