Solara has had little luck finding survivors in the middle of all of this carnage, but he can't give up yet. If this is the result of felling Zodiark, then it falls onto him to find the way out of this catastrophe.

A bit of an unconventional/obtuse choice here. While Solara is canonically never a Dark Knight, he does have the DRK Job Crystal and Fray/Esteem is very much canon. So with the MCH Job Crystal being a blank slate, it was far too easy for Esteem to hijack it. Solara and Esteem have a... complicated relationship on the best of days.
