Myrkviðr, the dark forest.
It's a haunted forest that swallows people whole and traps them inside.
Myrkviðr is said to be a gateway of sorts to the underworld, or atleast where the boundary is thinnest.
Which is why the settlers don't go near it.
But that is not all.
Myrkviðr is a place out of time.
Everyone who goes missing there, ends up toegther. Even if someone from 2020 goes missing there.
Or even 1578.
It dosent matter. They all end up together.
Escape from this forest isn't possible.
There are several groups banding togther to survive it all.
The supernatural, the natural. Everything.
Hell. Even some monsters.
The monsters of the forest however, are a different story entirely.
They all come from one source.
The mother.
Nobody had ever seen her but they're sure she's real.
After all, the monsters all seem to have a hivemind of source. And that can't happen without a mother.

VĮĢrðr is a rural settlement near the forest Myrkviðr, or "dark wood" or "black Forest" is said to be a mysterious, dense and impassable forest associated with danger and the boundary of the underworld.
Many people of their settlement had already gone missing there.
Even more tourists coming through go missing because they don't know the story. Don't know the warning.
Every year they perform a ritual for vĮĢrðr, the one their settlement is named after, for protection.
He, after all, is the spirit of protection.
Every year ,on a special day, which the town's 'witch' chooses, when it gets dark, they dance around a bonfire and chant .
The fire is believed to be a tool of protection against malevolent spirits, freezing winters and bad luck.
It is also believed to purify and cleanse.
To secure their settlement against metaphysical threats.
