Why are we still talking about racism?
We are still talking about race because of white people. We are still talking about race because of the system of oppression that still exist in this country towards minorities. White people get defensive and angry anytime this is discussed, they would rather ignore it or try to justify why it is still happening… It happens not because of just white people but because of ignorant white people who think the world owes them something for civilizing it.
In America race shouldn’t be a reason to judge a person’s worth!

Every Thursday here at EBC will be #ThrivingThursday where we will celebrate people within the African diaspora who are striving to achieve their dreams, or are currently living their dreams, all while making a difference, and being positive representations of black culture. We will acknowledge educators, students, community leaders, entrepreneurs, musicians, artists, athletes, and so many more. For our first #ThrivingThursday we want to celebrate Kyemah McEntyre. She is an absolutely stunning young black woman from North Jersey, who is educated, enlightened, and headed straight down the path towards success. She recently gained much popularity after revealing her exquisite prom dress, which she designed herself. Kyemah is very passionate about fashion design, and will be attending the Parsons School of Design in the fall, which was home to many famous designers including Tom Ford and Donna Karan. We here at EBC salute you Kyemah, and we hope that you will continue to be a beacon of light and hope for young black girls everywhere. You said it best yourself, “Don’t let anyone define you. Beautiful things happen when you take pride in yourself.” Go Kye!!! #ThrivingThursday #kyebreaktheinternet #KyeYouRock #BlackGirlsRock #BlackExcellence #blackgirls #Black #prom #blackpromdress #promdress #Fashion #BlackFashion #FashionDesign #etsy #naturalhair #Natural #naturalgirls #parsons #designschool #blackqueens
Wow!
Every Tuesday here at EBC will be #TalkAboutItTuesday where we will point out and discuss prominent issues that we face in Black America. We aim to spark productive and positive conversation, not to cause dissensions, but we really do want you all to voice your opinions. So our first #TalkAboutItTuesday topic is Cultural Appropriation. Cultural appropriation is when a person, or group of people take or emulate a piece of someone else’s culture, and fail to understand, respect, and recognize the cultural significance and/or the cultural origin of what they took. We have seen a lot of appropriation amongst celebrities (see examples above), but we also see it within the media, with bloggers and magazines giving credit where it was never due (see examples above). So much irony exist in the appropriation of black culture, because the pieces of our culture that are taken, are the same ones used to stereotype us, criminalize us, and even make fun of us. For example, Black women were once put on a “pedestal” to be dehumanized, and ridiculed for their physical features. Even now, black women are constantly being told non-Black people, that they are not beautiful, and yet so many non-Black women are getting fillers and implants just to possess the features that Black women will never be accepted for. Cultural appropriation has been an injustice to our culture for too long, and it needs to be exposed for the crime that it is. Now we want you to tell us what you think! #TalkAboutItTuesday #CulturalAppropriation #Black #Blackculture #Blackmedia #blacknews #news #media #blogs #magazines #debate #blackwomen #blackgirls #appropriation #transracial #amandlastenberg #katyperry #kyliejenner #iggyazalea #hiphop #rap #blackmusic #kendalljenner #braids #blackhair #marcjacobs #fashion #bantuknots
