Lenny purposely knocks lightly, not wanting to alarm her immediately. Fortunately, Midge doesn’t bother to open the door herself, and mutters a muffled ‘come in’ instead. He enters her dressing room, closing the door just as fast as he opened it. Midge glances up from the mirror, clearly not expecting Lenny to be her surprise visitor. She stands from her ottoman. “What are you—?” "I need to talk to you," Lenny says, pressing himself against the door handle to ensure they won't be interrupted. “I don’t—” “Please, just—” he holds a hand out. “Please listen.”

And just like that, he knew he’d do anything for her. Anything. As long as it kept her right where she was.
