Something twisted and perverse from Norway this time.
Disrupting the idea that women are all softness this thrilling short novel explores an eerie sexual awakening of a female student.
Her other title Girls Against God is wicked fun as well.

A recent book haul
Some of my recent pots
Suzuki is a 1970s Japanese punk counterculture icon.
Her work is a stunning portrayal of the femme fatale. A love letter to the underground scene. Raw. Visceral.
A lot of the translated literature I read is now being labeled as Healing Fiction - and I love that.
Because it is mostly stories about being lost or stuck in life and finding gentle connection and reassurances to make it through.
These stories are inspiring and warm and help me have hope that there is, in fact, a way through.

As a continuation of this pity party:
I feel like I don’t belong anywhere. Lonely with people. Lonely by myself. Lonely on the great vast interwebs. Just kicking these thoughts out into the ether. Echo chamber my sad thoughts.
I need friends that actually want to hang out with me. I’m too old to be this sad about something so silly. Damn my over-sensitivities.
But honestly I feel more isolated now than I did in 2020.
Is this growing up? Gross. It’s lonely.
My bookmark matches my dress.
This was my introduction to Sayaka Murata and I resonated deeply with it, I am merely a bookshop woman.
This is one of her more tame reads if you need a starting point - she can get very ~strange~ in an absolutely lovely way.
Her stories are poignant, satirical, surreal - if you like exposé on culture and society, specifically Japanese, you’ll devour her work.

I ate my salad with my hands today.
Now that I’ve stopped the drugs that were interacting with my medication the hypomania has subsided.
But now I’m crying trying to put on my fucking socks.
Maybe it will take a while to even back out. That’s hopeful thinking. Maybe everything is still fine.
I just want to feel normal.
Busy falling in love with a sentient statue of Venus.
Another great book. Jarring obsession, loneliness, societal pressure all wrapped up in a pretty pretty cover.
I’ve been on a surrealistic kick lately.

Secretly love being drunk in public. There’s a certain thrill to it. Something freeing. Something about the flush on my face.
I’m a sucker for a good cover.
I’ve read There’s No Such Thing As an Easy Job which was also translated by Polly Barton - very good.
This is a collection of short fiction - quirky and surreal feminist no-nonsense fiction that’s bite-sized and relatable. I’m so excited to dive in.
