I took a few screenshots and edited them to use as refs for when I draw and thought I’d share incase anyone else would find it useful!
Opening ceremonies, dealers room, artist alley and photoshoots are the adventures I encountered on Friday while waiting for my Bokuto to arrive! It was also 40°C which is WAY too hot for us Canadians. Then HQ garbage ensues with Awa and I. Enjoy Otakuthon Friday!

If you were curious about how the new Worbla’s Mesh Art compares to Wonderflex (as opposed to other Worbla plastics) Cosplaysupplies has a breakdown with images here!
i’ve gotten like a million questions about how i made my papyrus mask, so i put together this horrible tutorial cuz idk what im doing. i hope this helps someone?????????????????????????? i’m glad you guys liked my mask, wowie!
tutorial: how to add hidden pockets to shorts, skirts, or pants
look i know no one asked for this tutorial but i was in the middle of making these shorts and i thought to myself, “the day i figured out how to add pockets to my cosplays was pretty much the best day ever”
and i was right. cosplays without pockets suck. but then i realized a lot of people probably dont know how, so im like? ill just make a tutorial and maybe help someone out.
note: this tutorial places the pockets directly in the seams of your shorts/pants/skirt, so unfortunately it does require you to be making whatever youre making from scratch. if anyone wants, i can also make a tutorial for how to add pockets to existing pants, but it is a little harder to get right, just so you know.
tutorial under the cut, with pictures!

Halloween Week 2k15: Day Four (Tamaki)
Hello my princess~ Here’s a rose for such a beautiful lady. Oh? The glasses? Don’t tell anyone: I “borrowed” them from Kyouya. I think it raises my sexiness, what do you think? ;)
Shimmering Mermaid
Not everyone wants to don a creepy costume this Halloween, and many of you have been asking me to create a Mermaid tutorial for quite some time. So here is my bright & sparkly Mermaid tutorial, just in time for Halloween!
Now, before you all get confused - the model is my identical twin Sister, Callie. I’m still doing the makeup.
Enjoy!

Cosplaying Alone & Confidence
I find it really fascinating how people receive others in costume/cosplay. I’m always leery when I cosplay in public on an average day with no event as an excuse. I always think people would think of it as childish, annoying, or embarrassing. Especially in the workplace.
But over the summer, someone let it slip at work that I am into cosplay. I was scared how my coworkers, and especially my boss, would take the fact that one of their employees dresses as other characters for fun - even going as far as dressing as the opposite gender.
However, the opposite happened: they were overly excited, and wanted to see all my cosplay photos. I was really surprised and admitted I thought they would think I’m childish, but they said, “No, it’s super creative! I’d never be able to make costumes like that!” And they only saw my Shizuo cosplay, which is basically a bartender suit with a pack of cigarettes and a sign. They loved how I got in character, and they even mentioned how I should get into acting or professional costume making as a side job.
Then, this week, I’ve been cosplaying for the week of halloween. Yesterday, in my Rin Matsuoka costume, people were surprised to see me - mostly because of my different hair - but they thought I had simply cut and dyed my hair. Some of my classmates didn’t even bat an eyelash at it.
Today I wore my black cat kigurumi, and I expected to get a few stares, which I did, but I got a reaction I didn’t expect: I made people smile. And I don’t mean the type of smile like “oh, they’re an idiot,” I mean a smile that meant I had brightened their day. Some faculty members even thanked me for dressing up because I made their bad day good again. In the elevator, when I had my hood down, people would ask what I was dressed up as. I would turn and show them my hood with a cat face, and when I turned back they seemed happier than the second before. One guy even said that he really likes seeing people dress up in costumes because of all the creativity used, admitting he doesn’t dress up himself but to looks up to those who do.
Overall, just be you! I am slowly coming to realize that it doesn’t matter what others think of you while in cosplay, since you do it for fun and for yourself because it is your hobby, not theirs. Before I refused to cosplay alone in public, but now I am the one trying to convince my friends that it’s okay to cosplay alone, as long as you are safe, smart, and respectful of others and your environment.
Just have fun!!!!
Sincerely,
Awa-chan A cosplayer who cosplays for fun.

Halloween Week 2k15: Day Two (Neko Kigu)
The black cat stalked through the night, tail swishing behind it. Then a man with a Luigi hat and a Nintendo DS in hand approached it murmuring over and over “Pretty Kitty!”
The black and lavender cat pretended not to hear and quickened its pace.Â
I know this isn't really about cosplay but it's related to it? I'm exactly 5 foot and I feel very insecure with how short I am, it makes me feel like I wouldn't look good in certain characters because of my height >.< Do you have any advice on how to conquer this? Thanks.
People differ from characters in a lot of ways, and sometimes this is a difference we can’t change such as height or weight. In these cases, we can totally still cosplay the characters but it might mean altering parts of the design to look better with your body type.  This isn’t necessary for all characters and all designs, but is definitely something to keep in mind!At the con, it’s not something most people are going to notice or mention to you. Someone might, but hopefully they aren’t a butt about it because it’s not something you can control. Outside of the con, it’s all photos and photos can tell a very different story:
Don’t let your height stop you from getting into a really fun hobby :) Hope this helps!(On a side note, you can definitely use your height to your advantage for an added level of accuracy. Edward Elric, for example, is a character known for being short as is Hunny from OHSHC. Bilbo Baggins would be awesome, especially if you had a tall friend to contrast as Gandalf!)
