Junjii Ito fragments of horror review
Futon: not much to say but the character intro to the characters in futon was appreciated
Haunted wood mansion: I believe the house was not haunted until the live in soon to be wife moved in. And if it was me I simply would not marry the creepy wood obsessed at least two decades younger then me woman living in my house.
Tomio - red turtleneck: loved this one, as someone who is not unsettled easily and a fan of the Goreier things this made me queasy. Watching the hair tighten around the neck I was feeling stomach sick. Other then that I was thinking that the witch in that could’ve been a reincarnation of the main character in hair in the attic. Or something along those lines.
Gentle goodbye: this story is to sad to be in a horror collection
Dissection Chan: this story perfectly teetered the fine line of comedy and horror. Rather dissection Chan had something inside her stomach before or only after she died is unknown to me but I enjoyed the story either way.
Blackbird: this story has less of the pacing issues that many collections have. And the fact that it adresses the fact that the bird could have been traveling through time is a good point. The fact that this sopused bird monster could’ve been traveling through time seems a bit odd at first but opun further thinking it makes sense that the monsters soul design is to travel and feed people in rough situations their own corpses.
Magami Nanuske: this story to me did not seem at the least bit spooky it was just strange. It was my least favorite in the collection but the idea of a cross dressing bitch of an author with terrible habits (locking people in the basement until they break) is utterly hallurius.
The whispering woman: I really do like this story I find it to be just the right amount of comforting and spooky but the episode version was just better. The vocals explain mayumis mental condition better then the book and the ending flowed smoother then in the book with the extra scene of the actual murder of aga.
