Changes
The first major change that this series is going is that instead of book 1 going by the name of Broken Oaths and Shed Blood, it is now going to be a two book simultaneous release, with two, smaller books each telling the story of what would have been the first book, but from the POVs of the protag and the antagonist.
The book from the protag (who is still Halsey) POV is called "to Fly, then Fall; to Blaze, then Burn"
The book from the antag (who is Diaphene, a character I have not given much explanation of yet) POV is called "to Rise, then Conquer; to Ascend, only to Crumble"
The books will show parallel events happening in real time with each other.
The second major change in this series will be the fact that some of the side characters that I had introduced before I went on hiatus (Iona, Vera, etc.) will now become much more prominent characters, and I am now introducing some new characters as well who will play a part as supporting roles in the novels.
I am excited to share more with you guys. I am still currently rewriting my world building book, so I don't have as much plot built as I would like, so there's not much to talk about yet, but I will be sharing some character design in the next couple weeks!
Rewrite, Rebirth, and Revamp
Hi, all.
It's me, Seph, your not-so-loyal writer and creator.
I know I have been extremely inactive. But I am here to announce that I am about to return and hopefully be more active as a poster and content creator not just here, but on my other original content, writing-based blog @readingtheextreme where I post personal essays about things such as pop culture from a psychology point of view, my opinions about education and developmental psychology, and deep dives into things such as LGBTQ, psychology, and sociology issues.
But enough about that.
What I am here to tell you guys is that this novel series is getting a hard reset.
I still have the document with my original novel on it saved on my laptop, but I will no longer be using that plotline.
In February of 2024 I was 302'd and placed involuntarily into the psych ward, and while I was in there, I decided I wanted to rewrite this novel. I was going to still use many of the same characters, in fact, all of the currently existing characters are still present, if I am not mistaken, but some of the side characters are now much more prominent, and much of the plot is changed.
I am hoping now to also make a habit of posting at least once a week (generally on Mondays), as I have made a schedule for myself for my content creation, with Mondays being for posting on here about my novel. A full schedule ought to be released soon.
Please note that Monday will not be the only day (hopefully) that I post updates, but having one singular day that I dedicate to trying to at least post one update on this novel, whether it be character design, plot updates, or even chapter pieces from the novel, will hopefully keep me both on track and accountable to myself to work on this novel!
Thank you for bearing with me guys! I will post more about the new stories in a follow-up post!
Some recent sketches of the female leaders of the series. Vera is Halsey’s sister and the wife of the leader of Doraevon, Iona Khasi is the female warlord of an island nation called Tysus, loosely based off the Mongols and Vikings combined, Tonoru Ehansai is the Empress of a different island nation known as Agsin, loosely based off of the Pacific Islands, and Halsey is our main character.
I can not wait to talk more about these ladies and how they contribute to the story!
I'm at 48k words and am currently doing the nanowrimo challenge big oof to me lol

33k
I am getting close to 35k, and I hope to do Na-No Wrimo this year and write 50k words this November!
By the way isn't it funny how class is never ever mentioned with the whole "ownvoices" thing
Not that you can just neatly be like "look, a book that was written by a poor person!"
but it really feels like the people that are writing the popular/praised poems and books and stuff of our contemporary time are starting to be farther and farther away from like. average people.
There's less and less of the "spent a decade working as a pizza delivery guy, paint salesman, and window washer while writing scenes on napkins behind the pizza place" best-selling writers and more and more of the "graduated from an ivy league school, landed a $700,000 book deal at age 23 and is now a full time writer" best-selling writers
Gonna put in my two cents on this and say it's because it's not very profitable to put your career into writing and not be sure if it will work out unless you have mommy and daddy's money behind you or unless you have a GUARANTEED solid career (such as STEM) or if you have an inheritance etc. In this day and age of 2-3 jobs just to make ends meet, who has time to write? I am lucky enough to have time to write at my IT job, as there is a good degree of down time, but I am immensely privileged to have a good paying job and the ability to write at work. Most people don't get that.
It might be the week-long migraine talking, but I’m actually quite pissed at the idea that indie authors are wealthy, and that’s why we can afford to do what we do.
Yeah, sure, some indie authors are independently wealthy and can funnel unlimited money into making their writing successful. You’ll find them on Twitter and Facebook groups making pretentious and mind-boggling claims like if you aren’t spending $20,000 a year on ad revenue, you’re ‘not taking your writing career seriously.’*
The rest of us, however, fucking hate those people.
Most indie authors are working on a budget the length of a shoestring. We’re doing most things ourselves or trading skills back and forth in a never-ending cycle of “I’ll edit yours if you edit mine.”
I’m lucky; I have a moderate following on Tumblr that supports my work. My Patreon allows me to set money aside each month for editing and professional cover illustrations that give my work a professional edge. And even then, I’m paying significantly reduced rates because most of the people I am working with are friends in the same boat as me, and we’re all just passing the same $200 back and forth between creative projects.
That I could fund an audiobook (something which typically costs anywhere between $2-7000) on the back of my eBook sales is miraculous, but it also took two years’ worth of sales to do.
And let’s be clear here, I have an advantage over many other indie authors because of Tumblr. Y’all are feral (affectionate) and treated the Amazon sales algorithm like a challenge. You looked at how the system was rigged, sucked air through your teeth, and went, “I can break that,” and then you did.
Most indie authors don’t have that.
Yes, it costs money to produce fiction as an indie author. Yes, some people pay a lot to get ahead of the game and claim success. Most of us, however, are scraping by on favors and the luck of knowing how and where to upload our work for maximum exposure.
This is something, incidentally, the rich fucks who hoard the top spots most likely to earn the most money will never tell you.
They’ll tell you to keep writing, follow your dreams and invest, invest, invest. Which is solid advice if you can because that’s how publishing works. The rich get richer and the poor, well, you know the rest.

*To this day, it gives me no small amount of petty glee to know that for a while, Phangs was so popular on Amazon it broke the top 100 bestsellers in paranormal romance without paying a single dime in ad revenue. People were pissed. That’s like paying for one of the best seats in the house only to have some gremlin saw the floor out from under you Bugs Bunny style.

Metrics Talk
Here are the metrics for my novel. I've spent over 400 hours on it, which comes to about 17 days. I've typed about 27.4k words on it. The going has been slow, as I have been working on this since Jan 6. Granted, I took a break about 1k words in to write a 16k word manifesto/world building document that outlined the world in detail, and that took a good several months as well, as I wrote it as I wrote the beginnings of this book.
I am very proud of what I have written, as this well surpasses the original draft I had of this book that I later on deleted due to it being poorly written and somewhat dense.
I am so grateful for @miss-galaxy-turtle for being my test reader and putting up with my angst.
But yeah, that's how this is going. A lot of time is also being taken up by character design and redesigns and drawing details for the world. I want this to be perfect.
spent all day yesterday reading about alex aster and lightlark and it's so funny that she has 'follow your dreams 🥰' in her bio when the only reason she got published was her enormous wealth and privilege and connections and she really thinks that 6 figure deals and 7 figure movie deals can happen to anyone else as long as they work hard not to mention the excessive level of bragging in her tiktoks that comes across as tone deaf
all this hype is completely manufactured, none of this is organic, and, as she keeps saying in the tiktoks, all it took was one tiktok to catapult her to stardom. she does not talk about her writing process or her characters or Anything about writing at all, it's just all about her success and how she was rejected 'countless times' before tiktok. which imo really goes to show you the kind of product you can expect. and reading excerpts from the book, maybe there's a reason she was rejected for so long
all this bragging and nothing to back it up with.... embarrassing.
This is fucking insulting. My book is better written than this and is it hubris to say this? No. I've openly posted excerpt of this book online. I'm proud of what I've made. My book is rough but with editing it'll be great. Tik Tok nepotism babies need to be FUCKING STOPPED. I hate them and what they're doing to books. I go to a local science fantasy - fantasy book con every year of some of the most talented writers in PA-Ohio-West Virginia. They champion diverse writing and powerful works that deserve the hype this bitch is getting instead they struggle to sell 100 books at tiny cons. Oh my God I'm frothing at the mouth.
Patreon, 25k, and more!
So I hit 25k today! I also managed to figure out how to format my Word Doc into a printable format for a book. Not only that, I also edited my world-building document for easier readability and more continuity!
Most importantly however, I now have a Patreon where people can support my endeavors and get sneak peaks of the book as I write it, as well as information and content about other fandoms I create in and for!
