im losing my mind by myself about this darn jacket so im just getting it off my chest alright.
part 1
first, the bomber (or sukajan) jacket they wore had their own names and different animal motifs (changmin - dragon, yunho - tiger) at the front, and red ocean at the back. it was worn like this throughout day 1.
front and back of the jacket when worn the usual way.
then day 2 after STL, yh got knackered and didn't realise he took off and wore the jacket the reversed way. cm also only noticed it around the time they thanked the dancers. when yh was thanking the band, cm can be seen signalling to staff offstage about the jacket. he later reversed his own jacket to match yh's before they head off to thank the audience.
cm signaling to staff about the jacket and cm removing his jacket to turn it inside out.
so when they went around thanking the audience, their jacket designs were the same. the weird red horses with crowns at the front, and the back that says "tohoshinki 20 years anniversary 'til infinity".
part 2
a user posted on threads sharing that her father actually made the accessories for the sukajan jacket. in the comments, she answered a few questions from other bigeasts.
(1/1.5) they put an incredible amount of detail and care into making it. they had many meetings to discuss how it was going to be made.
(2) the animal at the front is a red horse - since 2026 is the year of the horse and toho's colour is red.
OP also included cute stories about how her father thought yh and cm's limbs were very long, how he kept it from her and her mother for a long while although they are bigeasts because he didn't want to mix work and private affairs, etc etc:) all very cute stories <3
part 3
i was curious about what a sukajan jacket was and the cultural significance of the designs. this is VERY superficial research on my side because i used like... 2 websites (1, 2) LMAO. anyone else who knows more pls feel free to pitch in:)
history of sukajan jackets and cultural significance today
The journey of the Sukajan jacket begins in the port city ofΒ YokosukaΒ in the years following World War II, where American servicemen wandered narrow streets in search of souvenirs that could capture their time in a country they never expected to call home. In the tailor shops and embroidery studios around the U.S. Naval Base, something extraordinary emergedβbomber jackets transformed into embroidered canvases filled with dragons, tigers, cherry blossoms, eagles, geisha, and Mount Fuji... For soldiers preparing to return home, these pieces functioned as visual diariesβa way to carry memories, emotions, and stories stitched into fabric. Over the decades, this hybrid garment evolved from wartime memento to counterculture symbol, from street-level rebellion to a sought-after luxury icon.Β
what the motifs mean
Dragons: Representing strength, wisdom, and protection, dragons are a powerful symbol in Japanese culture. They are often seen as benevolent creatures that bring good fortune and prosperity. On a Sukajan jacket, the dragon is a mark of power and resilience. Tigers: Known for their bravery and fierceness, tigers in Sukajan embroidery symbolize courage and leadership. The tiger is often depicted in bold, dynamic poses, capturing its strength and nobility.
from the cross-cultural nature of the jacket itself, its emergence in a time of rebellion and struggle, its storytelling nature, to the description of the motifs, this is all very tvxq/ yunho & changmin-like to me:))
part 4
other tidbits about the red horse. funnily enough 2026 is the year of the red fire horse. cm has likened yh's singlemindedness towards his goals to a racehorse and yh in response spoke about learning to widen his field of vision. at the start of the year, they also shared similar sentiments (or difference in sentiments?) at the start of this year when they shared their new year messages on weverse:
yh: do everything you want to do this year! and make sure to achieve it!! cm: 2026 is the year of the red horse! it is the year of byeong-o. rather than running like a racehorse, looking only straight ahead... with a wide field of view in front, behind, left and right, have a year of steady progress towards your goals!
what does this mean
honestly nothing much, and i could just be reading way too much into all of this LOL. it's just really sweet to me how they created these set of 2 jackets together, etched their individual styles and personalities on it, especially on a type of clothing that is about telling your personal story and experience. the jacket that we first saw showed how 2 different types of people were brought together by 1 red ocean. and perhaps what's even sweeter to me, is that on the inside of the jacket, the side that was revealed (seemingly) accidentally rather than intentionally, was a shared determination to continue tohoshinki for a long time, well beyond the already long 20 years. this side too, was portrayed by wonky drawings of horses and idk, red polar bears (???) rather than the refined art style presented on the other side, perhaps tells me a little about how they see themselves :)

Personally, do you think TVXQ coming back as duo is a good decision?
A world with TVXQ is always a better option than a world without one.
Anonymous What do you think of JYJ?
Two issues here, I guess? First JYJ in general and second is their break from SM?
I think that they are a talented group of guys who are slightly lost at sea, since suddenly they donβt have a dedicated production team to tell them what to do, which choreography to learn and which songs to promote.
In terms of their actual existence, as an entity, I am somewhat conflicted in the sense that I appreciate what they did at the same time as wanting to condemn it.
They certainly raised awareness to the nature of some of the contracts that rookies are dumb enough (not forced) to sign. In the future it may protect debutant artists, but remember that any industry doesnβt do work for charity: where a company is forced to compromise its profits (in this case, not getting the full use of its trained talent), it will find some other way of doing so. So while JYJ may have shortened contracts in the industry, rookie artists may have contracts in which the small print gives them next to nothing or pays them in company shares. Not only this, trainees that enjoyed small allowances, dormitories and small luxuries may find that potential costs that their sunbaes may incur are cut from their budget. Β
The impact JYJ had on the industry may well be one step forward, two steps back: notionally it seems better, but in reality the problems may now be completely away from the public eye.
Now, about their break. Itβs easy for fangirls to blame SM for all their woes and to demonise them in comparison to other companies. Whenever I read comments that do this, I know that the writer knows nothing about K-Pop and should sit back down and read more about its history.
Besides, every company is the same and seeks profits as a long-term objective. It isnβt some artsy college music society: K-Pop is a multi-million dollar industry with the potential for billions in expansion across the continent.
JYJ breaking their contracts goes against everything I believe in. They made a promise at debut in the form of a contract, keeping their heads down while earning fame under the direction of SM, before deciding they wanted more money. They went to a higher power to try to break that promise. A man must stick to his word, no matter how painful the consequences. Without that, he is without honour.
Letβs break it down. In the end, JYJ chose money over all, yes over all things. They were successful enough to be allowed creative input into their activities, so the artistic issue is right out the window already. And one should be judged by actions, not words, and their actions speak volumes.
They said Always Keep the Faith.
We thought theyβd be five forever.
They chose to leave the group. They chose to leave Yunho and Changmin behind. They chose money over their two other members. They chose to break the trust of those who made them who they are today. They succumbed to greed, no matter how fans wish to put it⦠and that reality is the sad truth.

Additional Notes (2):
*sigh* I am going to assume that you are new to this or new to me, because this was done to death back when it happened. These were my thoughts over five years ago and theyβve been proven to be right by how history played out: here is why JYJ have found it difficult to jump right back into K-Pop after the break-up. Please bear in mind that this is going to be long enough as it is, and Iβm condensing several posts into the smallest summary possible, so I will have to gloss over the exact details on certain things and streamline the narrative for you, so please bear with me. Hopefully this is the last time I need to post this. First consider SM Entertainment. In the grand scheme of things, as much as K-Pop fans want to pretend that they are some imperial monolith, they are a tiny company. Iβm not comparing them against Samsung and Hyundai, I am comparing them to people in their industry. CJ E&M on its own is a beast, even without the entire CJ conglomerate backing it up. Do you honestly believe that SM Entertainment has the clout to unilaterally βblockβ a clearly profitable unit like JYJ as effectively as it appears to be? No. Before you go on about SM boycotting places, the only time SM ever did that was because Mnet and Co. had this whole thing with SM about money with regards music distribution and even a hostile takeover of the company was being thrown around the rumour mill. SM wonβt boycott KBS, SBS, MBC or even cable channels for showing JYJ - and itβs not like theyβre about to reward all channels for keeping JYJ off either. The broadcasters and agencies need each other in a symbiotic relationship to sell products and raise viewer ratings. Notice who doesnβt fit into that equation? JYJ. As I said before, years ago, the entire K-Pop industry would be and has shown to be sloped against JYJ. Not just SM Entertainment but other major and smaller entertainment agencies have no interest in JYJ being successful and even if they donβt want to hold them down, they certainly donβt want to pipe up and voice an opinion in favour of the trio. Why would they? SM Entertainment, and every other entertainment agency, did not want JYJ to be successful. JYJ represented something that they feared - a legitimately talented group that broke off acrimoniously from its agency while at the peak of its success. This was something that could happen to any agency. JYJ becoming ridiculously successful after suing their company would set a precedent for their talent to rebel and break off from their agency before the agency could rake in that sweet money. They were rogues, they represented revolution, them being successful would be bad business for all of them. If you hurt the potential financial bottom line for everybody, then everybody is going to work against you. The entertainment industry is a very political industry, as you know. This is both business and politics. And how did we see things play out? 1. JYJ went with a smaller agency that had few significant political links in entertainment and not a lot to lose. Allegedly one with a lot of βmanpowerβ. 2. When they did release music, which was really good by the way, it never got significant airtime and never promotion campaigns that they deserve. 3. Eventually they managed to branch out into other lines of work and proved that they had the talent there too, but music still remains a struggle to keep them front-and-center where they should be. 4. And thatβs despite the fact their sales numbers are huge compared to the amount of promotion they are given. I said it before and I will say it again - SM Entertainment is not the only one keeping JYJ down. The difference between them and Jessica is that Jessica went quiet and eventually had a mutually-agreed break-up from the agency. JYJ always put forward lawyers and used the courts to wrench what they legally deserved from the agency. Iβm not saying who was right or who was wrong, but in Korea what is legally right and what is considered right within clique-like industries can be two very different things. What is right and what is wrong is totally dependant on context and the perspective of the person you ask. Now, why are Luhan and Kris different? Theyβre not βone of usβ. The difference in their treatment can be summarised down to βLOLFOREIGNERSβ And they have options in China where most Korean artists donβt.

KEEP YOUR HEAD DOWN (2011) TVXQ!
This week, I read a fic that was around 20 years old, which had originally been posted on the author's personal website and which she added to AO3 a few years ago. She listed her email address with the fic, so after I finished reading, I sent her an email saying how much I enjoyed the story, how much I appreciated the work and effort she obviously put into it, and thanked her for uploading it to AO3. She responded the next day and thanked me for my message, then said she had a few more stories in the same series that she hadn't gotten around to uploading. I checked this morning--she added a 35,000 word novella and thanked me in the summary.
