The muggles; Bangalore How would the royals fit-in today? Would they have funky English-sounding names? Would they embrace the contemporary, decry the mundane? Would they post Insta stories, delete facebook? Or would they find love in a hopeless place? Mixing ancient art with modern vectors, Alpa Machado’s miniature video vignettes imagine this through metaphors and beautiful Mughal forms. Music in each clip creates a subliminal layer cross-referencing the themes. Watch the animation trilogy at its best (with musique) here. Lastly, thanks to JK Rowling for inspiring the Mughal nomenclature with a twist.
The Collaborative Canvas (the objects of our affection) Bangalore Our logo artform is now open to all as a canvas for artistic expression! If the daring darling in you urges you to submit a piece, hit the •speak to a human• button now. First from the series is Kashyap Murali’s spin off The objects of my affection *Essential mix*. As an extension to his heavily gridded project, he has utilised objects from the studio to illustrate the facelessness while exploring the character through the objects which are most loved and essential to autopilot.
Making of: The Collaborative Canvas (the objects of our affection) From arranging the logo blocks to placing objects to those purposefully made film mistakes. Watch the entire composition in a minute.

The Golden Age (the Photo Booth, Part I); Bangalore Tropical plants, a totem-like sculpture and an antique chair set the stage for the hullabaloo that is brewing. The projections of our animated warriors shift in and out of shadows as soft lights toy with the ambience. Our audience walk in - “Be Golden or wear a beard” says one of the Golden Guides. Our impromptu models take position. Armed with a camera, the Station Master takes aim and blasts his flash. The first part of the Grand Tour has now begun…read more in Part II.
The Golden Age (the Photo Booth, Part II); Bangalore As the music plays in the background, he narrates of a past time and captures the present. He talks about how photo-projections and music, laid the foundation for autopilot in its early years (2004). He is the Station Master of the Photo Booth. The models get comfortable, the Golden Elixir is being passed around. By midnight, all animals have been captured. The images take form within the dark room. While processing, development and quality tests come to pass on multiple screens, only the best compositions of darkness and vivid expressions make the cut.
The Golden Age (Documentation); Bangalore The featured pictures are some of the ingredients we created for our studio launch celebration. To begin the journey, the Golden Ticket was presented to each individual that attended the show. The Grand Tour, which was led by our Golden Guides and Station Masters, featured the Photo Booth, The Recorder, Gyaan Room and the Swing Session. To round up the extravagance, limited edition bags were handed out as giveaways. The bounty: goodies in the form of chocolates, the gold edition sticker, a notebook and our cards.
The Golden Age (Teasers); Bangalore To mark the 4th leap year anniversary of autopilot, we created visual promos each giving insight into our journey. The journey started in 2004 with a series of exhibitions of live music and visual art collaborations. We then launched Spoilt Ideas in 2008 and our social media experiments in 2012. Finally, the design for 2016 talks about the present and how we continue to create and share art that defines our time. This led to the celebration and the re-launch of the studio, in collaboration with 1 Shanthi Road.

Under the influence of Shanthi; Bangalore If you were to waft into our little museum of a space you might just bump into a woolly human being, stumble into a brainstorm or notice some bizarre toys. Located under the art gallery 1 Shanthi Road, in between all the art cats is where we brew a mixture of creative projects. If you’d like to mull over a beverage, experience, talk to one of us or any of our furry friends at autopilot and Spoilt Ideas, drop us a line at the •speak to a human• page! Do it now!
The Stream; Bangalore After extending our brand fabric to social media, we contemplated the ways in which we could bring our virtual medium to a physical space. Our experiment came together as we played host to an impromptu gathering of artists and art lovers at the Monkey Bar. Over food and drinks, the audience were presented with drawing paper as table mats, while crayons and pencils were left strewn around the tables. The aim was to spark off the creative side in anyone interested while simultaneously presenting a unique playlist of music.
The milestone art project; Singapore, Mangalore, Bangalore An ongoing collaboration where our facebook landmarks are archived as original artwork on the page. When the page hit two thousand ‘likes’, Sumaya Mahadevan from Singapore produced a beautifully structured vector illustration with fluid lines and motifs for the 2k artwork. A few months later, Samhitha Somayaji from Mangalore designed a photo-graphic collage and a monochrome piece to symbolise our next landmark; the 3333(th) ‘like’. With a sense of being nocturnal the pieces also have a touch of noir, reminiscent of an optical illusion.
The autopilot journey (2004 - 2013); Bangalore, Kent (UK) & Mumbai To celebrate autopilot’s invisible birthday (the 29th of February) we compiled a short video running through the journey of autopilot from its launch in 2004 up until 2013. The 80 seconds clip will give you a glimpse of our key events over the years. Peek into the guerrilla street stencil campaign, the evolution of our mascot the Sonic Sadhu, the best of our displayed photography and graphic art, unreleased projects, the launch of the Spoilt Ideas studio, propaganda instruction artwork, our vintage websites, promo campaigns and more.

Studio opening promo & Midnight set teaser; Bangalore In November 2010, autopilot opened a studio space called Spoilt Ideas. The road map to the studio was complex and needed to be shown in our stationery and on the website. Around the same time we wrapped up an elaborate electronica mix, which happens to be the main course for autopilot’s next venture. The promo is a combination of the two thoughts of visual (Spoilt Ideas) and sound (autopilot). Apart from the route map, the clip also contains fascinating visual elements like the retro compass with its almost capricious motifs.
In the same way that MTV created space for music videos, what we need is an establishment in the gig sector that promotes visual jockeys as artists with creative license.
