I’m 30 and face a lot of age discrimination in the tumblr rp comm so admitting my age sucks.

I was reading through the comments in the tags, and I noticed a lot of:

“As long as you’re not creepy, I’m okay!”

“As long as you’re not a pedo!”

People over 29 are not automatically creepy or pedos. They are just as likely to be either as a 20 year old; most are less creepy because they are more experienced. Age discrimination is pretty gross. Does anyone really think that 29+ yr olds are going to think less about the concerns of smutting with someone under a age of majority? No, they probably think about it more because they haven’t been a grown child for years and face the real world more then the kiddos around.

Saying “As long as you’re not X” is pretty gross because it is implying that they are more likely to and contributes to the very reason why people over 29 are so reluctant about sharing their age — It IS age-based discrimination.

Also, just because someone is 30 yrs old does not mean they are something less than because they are still interested in rping. If you do the math based on the theory that most rpers begin around the age of 15-17, they may have been rping since the early 2000s, and some for even longer. That is 15+ yrs, so why would they suddenly be disinterested in something they have been doing for longer than some rpers are in total age. Do you know how many years of experience 15 yrs adds up to? If you want to become a good writer, then seek out those with the most experience.

If you don’t discriminate against rpers for being younger, then don’t do it because they are older. Nothing in life should have a time limit or expiration on interests that make people happy and bring no harm to others.

the reason there is age discrimination against people who are in their twenties and older is because adults are capable of pedophila. adults are capable of being manipulative, abusive, or bad influence on younger (impressionable) people. you have to realize that children and teenagers are incredibly fucking impressionable and often times are intimidated by adults. you are the adult here. you have a responsibility to make sure you’re not overstepping your boundaries with other people. that’s not discrimination, that’s you being a fucking adult.

yeah, actually. that’s why laws had to be created in the first place to keep you from smutting with minors.

take a minute to think about why people say “as long as you’re not X.” why are you so reluctant, as an apparently responsible, well-rounded adult, to share your age? did it ever occur to you children are constantly told from the time they first use the internet to be careful of online predators? did it ever occur to you that you are talking to minors? why are you so hung up about talking to minors? why does this matter so much to you? this isn’t age discrimination, this is you getting mad because underaged people are afraid of being hurt.

you are literally implying that people younger than 30 years old are lesser for not having that experience that you apparently have. stop wasting our time. this has nothing to do with your writing, your experience writing, or your experience in rp. this has everything to do with you being A REAL LIFE ADULT.

If you don’t discriminate against rpers for being younger, then don’t do it because they are older. Nothing in life should have a time limit or expiration on interests that make people happy and bring no harm to others. 

then find other people your age to roleplay with. we’re not telling you to stop; we’re telling you to grow up and learn that minors owe you nothing. teens owe you nothing. children owe you nothing. you are a goddamned adult. 

Personally, I hope to still have a passion and love for rping when I’m 90 yrs old and sitting in my nursing home. Never forget, kiddos, that you’ll be “old” someday and facing people telling you not to love the things you love because you’re past your expiration date. 

grow the fuck up.

this is exactly the kind of thing that makes minors afraid to come out and say they’re uncomfortable. THIS is the kind of thing that gets them into uncomfortable and even dangerous situations. instead of complaining about how young people don’t want to rp with you, you should examine why they’re fucking afraid of you.
