to add something new & make us feel glad we’re not in the rink all day. it’s so funny how pro skaters have perfect balance and burst with charisma, but are total klutzes and aliens on normal ground. they’re so accustomed, normal life is impossible.

...reverts to a wordy yale nerd glued to the screen 23/7. he deals with not having the sensation of swaying over the ice by notorious skateboarding. from nathan to nate. and yes— it’s a double life. he even got the fucking clark kent glasses.

fuck that!! he stands in the kitchen for 6 hours straight! cakes are his coping mechanism. he can’t help it.

loses even the last bit of his sanity as soon as the skates are off.

Nathan has a very masculine style. In music choice, and musical interpretation, and choreography, and it’s most especially noticeable this season with the kind of music he’s skating to (Nemesis speaks for itself, but MLD is also a man’s story). 

The thing about men’s figure skating is that a lot of the top skaters right now have a very classical and artistic style that could be characterized as either feminine or at the very least subversive to traditional masculinity (obviously Yuzuru being the Gold standard here). 

The top men that skate with a more masculine style (primary among them in my opinion being Javier) do so with a very clear undercurrent of sensuality, if not overt sexuality. If you are going to be a Manly Male Skater you need to project a Manliness and in this culture, that is often tied to a certain level of sex appeal.

Nathan doesn’t do that. Nathan’s programs, choreography, and interpretation, aren’t skated with any sort of sensuality. Instead, what Nathan has, and uses, is a masculine AGGRESSION. His moves are sharp, he snaps into everything he does- not just his jumps though OBVIOUSLY that’s where his focus is right now, but he SNAPS into his choreography, he SNAPS into his spins, he LUNGES into his steps. Nemesis is the perfect example of this, but you see it somewhat in the more aggressive parts of MLD too. There’s an element, not of “come and get me” as implied by sensuality, but instead of “I’m coming for you”. 

And, while I happen to love it, I could see why the (majority female or AFAB) figure skating fandom might be off-put by this, even if they don’t realize WHAT it is that is off-putting to them.

Tbh, one of the reasons why I’m attracted to him and his style is because of that you’ve mentioned, ‘aggression’. I have to admit I’m way more magnetized by that.

His artistry attacks and doesn’t welcome. Many are intimidated by that, that’s why they are put off like you’ve said. Those who enjoy his are not.

To be honest, I think that those who say ‘he doesn’t have a style / he has no artistry’ is a crude way of saying that “his PCS scores is a little high for his programme.’

While I do not condone personal attacks, I find it helpful to understand where these concerns come from by understanding more about the scoring system. 

PCS scores are not as subjective as you think - there are criteria to be fulfilled regarding difficult transitions performed and such.

I think that the recent dissatisfaction on Nathan’s programmes has more to do with the messy scoring system ISU has currently. PCS scores nowadays are slightly arbitrary, where high scores were given without fulfilling stated criteria on skating skills etc. at all. 

Long-time skating fans might feel angered and threatened by the ‘incentives’ the current system is giving out, but that being said no amount of personal attack is warranted. Still, do keep your calm if fans criticise the skating skills of your favourite skater, and find out if it is actually constructive or baseless.  

Also, one can like a skater irrespective of their skating skills; for example I like Shoma very much despite his severe pre-rotation issues.

I’m completely fine with constructive criticism. It’s always a delight to read it and learn something from it. So yes, I appreciate it.

First we had people following them around, then we had some kinda weirdo go INTO their TOUR BUS and make THEIR BEDS, TOUCH their BELONGINGS and now y'all really had the god damn nerve to go to Johnny’s house and make a freaking self-made meet and greet? Hell no. This is NOT okay. Listen, I know, I know, you guys are really excited about them being in your city but please, for the love of god, don’t forget that they’re HUMANS. They have FEELINGS and they have the RIGHT to have their much needed P R I V A C Y. I am just so disappointed in Nctzens, seriously. I was so sure about y'all keeping it cool and treating them with the RESPECT they deserve, but I was so wrong. These boys have been through so much BULLSHIT in those few weeks and mostly bc of their own god damn fans. I just wonder what you were thinking when going to Johnny’s house. Like, what’s the point of invading his, the boys’ and his FAMILY’S privacy like you own it? Oh, a picture! And some forced small talk, exactly! Oh and a hug?? That’s crazy, but be sure that all of those things are not the results of them wanting it but results of YOU forcing THE into fanservice. Like seriously? Fuck off. I am so annoyed by fans expecting THE BEST fanservice while being the shittiest fans. Have some decency and back the fuck off.

Invading their privacy when you’re already about to see them Live at their concert is so fucked up because you already have a chance so many of us can’t have and you’re over there acting like they owe you something.

NCT don’t owe us SHIT.

WE are the ones who decided to support them for different reasons. It was OUR very own decision to call ourselves nctzens and be part of this family. Every single nctzen CHOSE to join this fandom on their own. Nct are the most humble and polite guys on this planet and you are all taking advantage of that and it makes me fucking sick.

But at this Point I still believe that at least some of the ones who made those mistakes in a moment of pure bliss and excitement, can understand their mistakes and learn from them bc if y'all continue this kind of shit, these boys will be coming back to the US, but the question is, will they do it as excited as this time?
