lydisms:
“You are not dumb and we both know that.” Lydia clarified as she shook her head. “Most boys are, though. You’re right about that.” The banshee felt bad that Rory had to go through heartbreak. Lydia’s heart had been broken more times than she could count- although most of them weren’t from boys. Some were- mostly Jackson leaving her emotional scars- but the rest were from the world in general. Lydia wouldn’t wish that feeling on her worst enemy. “Heartbreak sucks. It’s unavoidable, though. Unless you’re heartless which you most definitely aren’t and that’s a good thing. So take it as a reminder that you have a really big heart, Rory. With plenty of room to heal and bounce back eventually. Which you will.” Lydia put a hand on her shoulder and then gave Rory a reassuring smile. She hoped her words would help even a small amount. “Just doing some grocery shopping for Stiles and his dad. It’s the least they could do after letting me stay there almost everyday.” It wasn’t like Lydia really ate all of their food or anything. She rarely did in general, but she wanted to do something helpful. “I might need a job too.” She practically groaned at the realization. “My dad used to send money every month and my credit card bills just went to him too but now.. I don’t think he’s doing that anymore.” Lydia shrugged. She was pretty sure her mother had threatened him or had something major on him in order for him to take care of the money situation, even after Lydia had turned eighteen. But now that Natalie was gone, perhaps he thought he was out of the woods. Thankfully Natalie had left Lydia money in her will so she had time, but eventually she would need to start working. “Want to look for a job together? Might not be as bad if I can work with you.”
Lydia’s words meant a lot to the girl. They were not superficial in the way that other’s might use them. Thankfully. She did not want to deal with someone being fake to her. But, Rory knew that Lydia was right. She would recover from it - even if it felt devastating at the time - and one day she would look back with no hurt. “I’m sure you don’t have to do anything. I doubt Stiles would want you to stay anywhere else. He seems quite fond of you.” That was putting it mildly. Stiles seemed over the moon for Lydia and Rory was happy that her friend had someone who truly cared about her. “You want to look for a job with me?” Rory asked, her tone slightly unbelieving. Not because Lydia wanting to work with her was unfathomable, but Lydia working in general just seemed like something that would never happen. She smiled brightly. “I’d love to work with you. What kind of job were you thinking? There’s a candy store at the mall that is hiring...I saw the ad the other day. But there are always department stores that are looking as well. We will have to put some feelers out.”
