valko loves you so much!!
AN: pretty short, haven't written in a long time! scenting, yearning and clingy valko, suggestive! (could be convinced into making it actual smut...)
wc: 1k
â
you are the prettiest thing valkoâs ever seen. the slope of your smile, the smell of your scent, everything you are, is everything he needs. itâs addicting really. the melodic sound of your voice floating through rooms and finding home in the depths of his memories. engraved forever inside of him. even now you are perfect, tucked into his arms and left defenceless in face of a predator. youâre honey sweet, warm milk invading his senses as you nuzzle further into him. an encompassing wall of muscle purely for your comfort. his tail is a fervent wind behind him, drifting back and forth in excitement, he can feel it. he can hear how it thumps against the covers, how it coasts over your soft, silky skin and lays claim against your body. the fur brushes against the fine hairs on your arm and legs, and something giddy curls up in his chest. oh youâre lovely. the loveliest thing heâs ever seen. how could he have you? how could someone like him have the moon? much less have the moon love him, hold him, adore him.
heâs so lucky to have such a beautiful mate.
âvalâŚvalko?â his ears perk at the sound of your voice, his tail stopping momentarily before laying down on you, a firm warm blanket.Â
âMm?â he nuzzles the top of your head, your hair tickling his face in pleasant streaks. âwhat cha need, baby?â âItâs hot..â you murmur, squirming in his grip. It pains him to let you go, and yet his arms loosen with each shove you give. itâs adorable really, how you paw at him in the throes of sleep. of course if you were awake, youâd be able to shove him off with no problem. however, itâs indulgence he gets to tap into whenever youâre like this. how he can provide, how he can give. âi dont want to let you goâŚâ he whines, clinging onto you, stuffing his face into your collar as you try to push him off. âYouâre so sweet and soft and-â âWell one of us has to move-â you groan, âitâs too hot!-â âplease?â he digs deeper into your scent, his lips pressed up against your neck as you struggle against him in a futile fight. âplease i swear iâll be good?â he peers up at you with big eyes, puppy eyes even. amber cuts staring at you from below as you feel your resolve waver, before disappearing entirely in the face of your oversized pup.
âfineâŚâÂ
âyouâre too sweet for me,â he whispers into your skin, so quietly he hopes the words dissolve before they reach your ears. His tail curls tighter around your thigh anyway, betraying him. âso so sweet. mine. mine. my mate.
he knows he should let you pull away. youâre overheating, little human, and heâs a furnace of fur and muscle wrapped around you like a living blanket. but the moment he loosens his arms even slightly, his wolf howls to pull you closer, to keep you near him. so so unfair to you. how terribly greedy he is.
he makes it up to you in the only way he knows how. or rather, how his animal driven brain knows how.
it starts small.Â
a tentative lick where sweat has gathered on the side of your neck, the rough buds of his tongue swiping up and down in lazy laps. like how he would drink water if he were in his wolf form. all fur and bundling warmth.
the salt of your skin tastes like home to him for some reason, something addicting with a tasteless flavor. a flavor so tantalizing he can't help but want more, small stripes turning into long, flat licks across the expanse of your neck. âwhat are you doing?..â Â
when he looks up, your eyes are glazed, slowly coming to but not quite there. your voice is still heavy with sleep, soft and slightly slurred, thereâs a faint hitch in it that makes his ears twitch forward. valko doesnât stop. he canât. not when your skin tastes like salt and warmth and you.
âjust⌠taking care of you,â he murmurs against your neck, the words half-muffled by another slow, dragging lick. his tongue is rougher than a humanâs, textured like warm velvet over sandpaper, and he uses it with deliberate gentleness, lapping away the thin sheen of sweat thatâs gathered from being wrapped in his heat for too long. âyouâre hot. let me help.â
you shift, a tiny shiver running through your body, and he feels it everywhere. his tail tightens around your thigh again, thick and heavy, the fluffy tip brushing slow circles against your skin like an apology and a plea at the same time.
valkoâs tongue drags slower, heavier, pressing the flat of it against the pulse point in your neck. again. and again. each lick deposits more of his own scent, warm cedar and wild musk and something electric that clings to skin like smoke. pine trees and wind.
it's not enough. his nose nudges under your jaw, pushing your head gently to the side, and you let him.
he rubs.
not a cute nuzzle, but deliberate, slow drags of his cheek and jaw along your throat, spreading the scent glands that lay embedded within his skin. The motion is almost lazy, but his breathing has grown deeper, more focused.
youâre going to be the end of him.
slowly, the flat of his tongue slips lower, down the dips of your collar, your shirt bunching up to reveal the slop of your stomach. there too does he let his lips graze, fleeting kisses pressed to blessed skin.Â
from the very beginning, his hands have been nothing but gentle, coasting over your hips and settling there like warm anchors. now when you squirm and push, they become firm weights, holding you next to him, right by his side.Â
âStay still, im just helping youâŚâ
ââs hot, valâÂ
âi know, jusâ hold on,â he murmurs against your skin.
And those devious pairs of lips slip lower, down down down.Â
I am so immensely disappointed
Bring Valko Back!
The fact we have to do this.
Iâm in a really, rough place here. / Rafayel myth coming/ financial problems / IM JUST BROKE.
so I have commissions out, and so please, I ask of you to consider commissioning me. The reason I donât have a pricing chart is because really it depends on your request and your word count.
continuing on, itâs perfectly fine if you canât, Iâd just ask if you could spread the news around?
love sting!

When you wake the next morning, you find bright sunlight streaming into your room, casting beams across your blanketed body and over the intricate rug on the floor. For a few minutes, you toss and turn, grumbling quietly as you try to return to the dream slipping between your fingers. But alas, it's time to get up.
You throw the covers off and clean yourself up for the day, finding your clothes already picked out for you and lying on your chaise. They include a cropped bra of sorts, adorned with pearls and other chains, and a pair of swishy pants, similar to ones you've been wearing most days.
At some point, a maid strolls in and gasps. Immediately, she sets down the tray she was holding and dashes over to help you dress.
"Miss!" She exclaims. "You're not supposed to get ready without someone to aid you! Here, let me help." She takes the jewellery you were holding and leaves it on the couch, fretting over how you've put your clothes on. Turns out, your pants were backwards (not that the front and back look different). Only after she's satisfied with your clothes does she move on to smothering you in jewellery. More bangles like the one Caleb gave you are slid up your arms, and several necklaces are draped over your dĂŠcolletage.
"Please, sit." She gestures to your opulent vanity. You do as you're told and watch as she gathers your hair in her hands before fetching a brush. Quiet stretches on between the two of you as she expertly styles your hair in an updo. When she walks over to your drawers, you catch sight of her segmented tail and find the absence of a telson.
As she turns back around, you avert your eyes to the mirror in front of you and pretend to be admiring your appearance. Thankfully, you already applied your makeup before she came in, your complexion smooth and freckle-free. Once the maid returns to your side, she sets down a wooden box on the dresser and flips the lid open to reveal a golden headpiece encrusted with sizeable rubies and glittering diamonds as accents. A sigh falls past your lips as she lifts out the tiara and sets it on your head.
"There," she says, grinning at you through the mirror. "All finished. Don't you look beautiful, Your Majesty?" You gaze back at her wide-eyed, unsure of how to handle this. Never once have you seen so many riches in your life or been able to partake in them.
The first thing that comes out of your mouth is, "I can't. It's too much." Your bracelets chink as you reach up to remove the crown from your head, but the maid beats you to it.
With careful claws, she hovers the stunning tiara above your head and insists, "But it's tradition, Your Majesty. Every mate of the kings has worn this crown for generations. You'll get used to it." She sets it back down your head before closing the box it came in and scampering off to grab the tray she entered with.
You stare at yourself for a minute or so, turning your head this way and that, and committing the sight of this gorgeous tiara nestled in your locks to memory. The twinkling of the gems pairs well with the gleaming satin of your clothes and the depth of your eyes.
The tray softly clatters against the vanity's hardwood, and the lid dings as the maid takes it off.
"Ta-da!" She beams. Before you is a bowl of steaming, vegetable noodle soup. "King Caleb made this for you, and he included a little note, as well." From her pocket, she hands you a small, folded slip of paper. You take it from her outstretched hand and thank her for her service.
"It's no trouble at all. If you need anything else, like you want someone to show you around or answer your questions, just give me a shout. My name's Tara," she tells you energetically before leaving your suite. By yourself now, you open Caleb's note and read it silently.
Morning, Pipsqueak. Hope you enjoy the soup :p When you're ready, meet me at the fountain in the royal gardens (near the east wing). I'll be there till sundown (training drills). P.S Don't let Raf catch you before I do (he's clingier than a newborn). â C
His words bring a smile to your face. Leaving the note on your dresser, you bring the silver tray toward you and dig into your soup. It tastes just like the one he used to cook for you most weeks back in your little village. But the noodles are a bit different. They're thinner than the ones back at home. Nonetheless, you enjoy your brunch.
The lingering salty broth on your tongue produces a bounce in your step as you venture outside of your suite. It doesn't take long before Tara spots you from her spot by an indoor palm tree and comes rushing over. She takes the tray from you and gives you directions for your meeting place with Caleb.
With her instructions at the forefront of your mind, you saunter along the sunlit hallways, passing by all sorts of servants, artisans, and other courtesans. Seeing your dress, they nod at you, which you return with your own nod and smile.
Once the steady stream of personnel thins out, with the occasional scorpion hustling and bustling by, you let your mind drift. So much has happened within the last two days, let alone the past week. You've longed and despaired and spat on Caleb's name, then worshipped it once your circumstances changed.
Saying 'yes' to being his mateâwell, to being his brotherhood's mateâwas fairly easy. But everything else that comes with your acquiescence has been confounding. With the light weight upon your head, the warm metal brushing against your fuzzy ears, you're awakening to the fact that what you've signed up for is very real and complex.
At one point in their childhood, almost every girl wants to be a princess. And while you aren't and never will be one, this taste of luxury is pretty damn close. Not to mention the rules you'll likely have to follow, from appropriate dress to proper etiquette and whatever other restrictions you've laid upon yourself. NOT TO MENTION the fact that you've pigeon-holed yourself like this when you're supposed to get pregnant and develop your barely there relationship with four, incredibly sexy and hopefully devoted scorpions. Does your trouble cease to end? All of which has been brought upon you by your own doing.
Your head whips around as your ears twitch against the crown. Rafayel's voice in the distance filters through the chaos. His footsteps. He's approaching. Panic flashes through you, Caleb's note clear in your mind. Hastily, you duck behind a patterned curtain.
"Have the drapes in my room changed. I want something moody and sensual, like burgundy red or plum. Oh! And make them sheer. Yeah, I want the moonlight streaming in. That'll be nice." With every second, his voice grows louder, cadence slinking beneath your skin.
"My liege, King Zayne requested your presence at tomorrow's hearing," another voice says, likely one of Rafayel's attendants.
"Tell him I can't make it."
"That'll be the fifth hearing you haven't attended, My liege."
"Yet he still requests for me. Doesn't he know how to take a hint?" The footsteps fall quiet, but the two men's breathing rings in your ears.
The attendant remarks, "I was told that King Sylus would also be in attendance tomorrow."
"Is that so?" Through the curtain, you swear you can feel Rafayel's eyes on you. Whether to expose you or not appears to be the question on his mind. Silence rolls on until finally, Rafayel declares, "Change of plans. Tell Zayne I'll be there."
"Yes, My liege." The sound of shelled feet clacking against the marble floor starts up again; two pairs. As the sound grows quieter, you release a sigh of relief.
In the distance, you hear: "Have you seen our little gerbil? I want to show her latest painting."
"I have not, My liege. I believe she'll be at dinner tonight."
"I hope so. She was still asleep when I called this morning. And then she was gone when I called about an hour ago. She's a hard woman to catchâ" The conversation disappears behind the thud of a door. You're in the clear.
Abandoning your post behind the curtain, you resume your journey to the royal gardens. Thankfully, it doesn't take long for you to reach your destination.
Stepping onto the pavement, you follow its winding path through cacti interspersed by scraggly, desert bushes. At your feet are bulbous cacti that cling to each other, spines sharp and points glinting under the harsh sun. Behind them stand tall, straight cacti with a range of succulents peppered along their base. While the vegetation doesn't have the charm of rainforest flora, it certainly is stunning and unique. How life can survive in such harsh conditions is truly a wonder.
The path opens up to an area filled with shrubs and little flowers, like a meadow but water-scarce edition. It makes you giggle. Strolling through the grass, you catch sight of a cluster of scorpions not too far off, grunting and groaning as they fight one another. A towering figure strolls through their clusters. Caleb.
You yelp as your foot hits something solid, barely catching yourself at the last second as you stumble over the object. Turning around, you nearly scream. Before you lies a heavenly scorpion, his divine features soft and chest rising slowly.
"Xavier?!" You whisper-yell, stepping closer to his peacefully sleeping form. He doesn't even stir. "Xavier!" You try again, your voice louder this time. Still, nothing.
"Don't worry about him." You almost jump out of your skin, heart rate spiking as you flinch violently at the unexpected sound of Caleb's voice.
"Hey, you okay? Sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." He reaches out to you and takes your curled-up elbow in his grasp, gently tugging your arm away from your body. His grasp slips down to your hand, where he presses his rough palm against your much more delicate one.
Nodding his head to the side, he tells you to, "Come. There's something I want to show you." Willingly, you let Caleb guide you through the plain. Turning your head back, you stare at Xavier sleeping so soundly, the outline of him growing smaller with each step you take.
"Is he okay?" You ask, your voice small as concern mars your brows.
"Who? Oh, Xavier?" Caleb's grip around your hand flexes; a streak of jealousy runs through him. You see, he only just got you back. He can't lose you to his brother just yet. "Yeah, he does that all the time. Don't worry about him." With your dear scorpion's reassurance, you face forward and walk a little faster, matching his brisk pace.
"Tiara looks good," he comments.
You joke, "Oh, yeah? D'you pick it out for me?"
"I did, actually. Pinched it from Sylus's collection. But I'm sure he'll love seeing it on you tonight," Caleb answers truthfully, his tone dampening after the mention of his brother. It must be tough, you think, to share. But you and Caleb⌠well, I mean, you never were together. But even so, the history between you makes it hard to view your relationship as a blank slate, ready to be filled with whatever the future will bring.
"Maybe. He seems⌠nice." You hold onto Caleb's hand a little tighter.
"Nice? I wouldn't call Sylus 'nice', Pipsqueak."
"Well, he's a lot nicer than Zayne, that's for sure," you retort, your frown returning as that awfully cold man comes to mind.
Caleb sighs, "At least Zayne is honest. You never know what's real and what isn't when it comes to Sylus."
"I could say the same about you," you snark, shutting him up for a good minute; that's a rarity you'll cherish for years to come.
Finally, the violet-eyed scorpion sighs, "Look, we can talk about it in a sec, alright? There's something you gotta see first."
"What?" You ask, gazing up at him. God, was Caleb always this tall? Last night, you kept your eyes straight ahead of you when walking beside them. But looking up at him now, he's like a giant.
"You'll know once we get there." He points to a nearby boulder. "It's just down there."
Arriving at the rock, you find that it's not solid but hollow instead. The opening is large enough for you to slip in, but it requires some effort from Caleb to enter unscathed.
His voice echoes on the beige rocky walls as you venture into the narrow passageway. "Just keep going. I promise, it'll ease up soon." The deeper you go, the darker it becomes, sunlight fizzling out as the passage curves.
"Watch your step!" Before you even realise it, you trip over a small rock on the ground. Muscular arms catch you, keeping you safe and tucking you into the warmth of Caleb's body.
Against his chest, you mumble, "I didn't even see it." His hand comes to the back of your head, claws scratching your scalp lightly behind your ears. The sensation makes you sigh, and your eyes close in bliss.
"I know. Let's keep walking, yeah?" And just like that, he rips such affection away from you, his arm now wrapped around your waist as the cave walls ease up and spread out. "I'll be sec." He releases you, his feet striking the sedimentary floor with a thunk. You hear a match flare up, vibrant light casting a glow on the rocks. But then it grows and swells. When Caleb rejoins your side, he's holding a lamp.
"You come down here often?" You ask, glancing down at the lamp.
He shrugs. "Used to. But it's been a couple of years. Come on." Your journey isn't finished yet. You continue exploring the cave, brushing your fingers on stalagmites when they draw near. Eventually, you reach a large cavern with stalactites hanging down from the ceiling. Some are longer than the others, almost threatening to give Caleb a little jab; their points miss by an inch.
Your companion sets the lamp down on a flat rock, its light illuminating the hollowed-out space, but shadows still thrive in the crevices. You like it.
"It's cool, right? Thought I'd show you all of the beautiful sights here, starting with this one, just like you showed me back in your hometown." He leans back against the rock hosting the lamp, his meaty arms crossing over his barely covered chest. The fabric he's got draped over one shoulder and tucked into those striped, flowy pants is doing very little for his modesty.
You smile at the memories his words recall, ones of the little trips you'd take him on, some to significant places while others were to your garden or favourite waterfall. Sighing, you begin wandering around the cavern, examining the pores of the rocks and how little flecks shine on them in the light. It's colder in here than you expected, much colder than the sweltering surface above, and this dank smell pervades the air. Your ears perk up at inconsistent drips of water. Figures.
After finishing your inspection of the cave, you settle onto the relatively smooth floor with Caleb by your side, your backs resting against one of the walls. It's quiet, neither of you knowing how to begin your inevitable conversation.
Eventually, Caleb takes one for the team and says, "I received a letter from Gideon yesterday evening. He said you went to visit him."
"Yeah?" You bend your knees into your chest, the cold sinking past your thin clothes.
"Yeah. It was dated a week ago."
"YeahâŚ" Caleb glances down at you, and noticing your posture, drapes his arm over you and pulls you closer into his eternal heat. "I, uhâŚ" You begin, a small, somewhat sad laugh rising in your throat. "I was asking around about you. Some girl you probably slept with told me you lived there. And then Gideon told me to come find you here."
"Mhm." That's his only response. That's the only sound that reverberates off the cave walls for a minute.
"You're such a liar, Caleb," you mumble, your cheek smushed against his pec. He doesn't respond, just stays quiet, knowing you have much more to say. "You lied about your family, you lied about going into the military, and you lied about working on a farm. What haven't you lied about?"
"C'mon, Pips. Don't be like that. There are many things I haven't lied about. For example, I've never lied about how good you smell. And I've never lied about the stories I've told you. The only things I've fabricated are the things you named, and those were for obvious reasons."
"Still," you mutter. "You led me on some wild goose chase to find you again."
"Actually, I didn't. In fact, I told you not to come with me," he counters. "Guess I should have told you not to come after me, too. But either way, you wouldn't have listened, would you?"
"Think you know the answer to that," you say, your voice muffled against his muscles.
"And on that note," he continues. "How did you get here?" Tipping your head back, you catch his gaze, curiosity lingering in the crinkle of his eyes.
Quietly, you explain, "I was following you. I left the day after you did and asked around about your whereabouts. But then when I got to⌠I think it was a lizard village or somethingâI lost track of you."
"So you were the one who was following me!" He exclaims, disbelief in his raised brows. "I was wondering why it was so easy to lose you," he remarks. At that, your forehead creases and your cheeks draw in slightly.
"You left in the middle of the night?! How was I supposed to know that?!" He grins at you, finding that cross look on your face adorable.
Pushing your head into the crook of his neck, he explains to a grumbling you, "Confederation spies usually keep tabs on their targets at all times. That's why I was so surprised you didn't come after me within a few hours." A light bulb switches on in your mind.
"The war! You lied about that, too!"
"I did not. The civil war actually happened," Caleb contests.
"Yeah. Happened. It wasn't going to happen in the future," you sass back.
"You never know. Despite our alliance with the confederation, things are still a bit rocky, considering some tribes refused to enter a peace treaty with us. We've subdued them for now, but who knows when they'll rise and go against us." You roll your eyes at him and sit up, despite his reluctance to loosen his hold on you.
"Please. You're just saying that to justify your lie," you grouch.
"I'm not. Honestly, Pips. I told you, things are different around here. You're not in the forest anymore."
You scoff, "You think I don't know that?" His eyes soften, and his lips form into a small pout.
"Come on, Pips. Don't gimme that attitude. I know it's tough being away from your homeland, but you can go visit after you give birth."
"I'm not even pregnant yet!" Your panicked voice bounces off the cavern's walls, awakening ancient beasts (insects) with the ensuing vibrations. For a moment, you and Caleb stare at each other, your short pants audible in the space between you.
"HoneyâŚ" He starts, hands trailing up your arms and squeezing you gently.
"Hmph." You inch closer to him and succumb to his warmth. Without complaint, Caleb returns your tight hug and pulls you down onto his lap, his body curled around yours protectively now.
"Talk to me. You're feeling overwhelmed?" He murmurs, carefully removing your tiara so he can rest his chin atop your head. He gives you your crown to fiddle with.
"Yeah," you laugh sadly, fingers tracing the gems and filigree. "You could say that."
"What're you feeling overwhelmed about? The mating?"
"All of it. I don't knowâŚ" Your heart thumps in your ears, pounding. Everything you've been desperately trying not to feel for the past 24 hours is beginning to bubble over. You start talking without direction, hoping your words will eventually form into something coherent.
"I'm worried about fitting in. And. I'm worried that Zayne won't like me. He just seems so mean, you know? And I'm worried about the mating, too. I'm worried about what's gonna happen, what it'll be like. I'm worried about Sylus stinging me. I've heard that his venom is very powerful, even in low doses.
"And I'm worried about getting pregnant and⌠um, about getting fatter, you know? I'm worried about how my body will change, and I'm worried that it won't look the same after I give birth. I'm gonna get so many wrinkles, and I'll look so much older than I do right now. And what if you don't want me anymore after I have kids, because I'm not beautiful anymore? Not that I was beautiful to begin withâ"
"Honey. Do you hear yourself right now?" Caleb interrupts, his lips on your hairline. "You're more than beautiful. You're the most gorgeous woman I've laid eyes on, alright? And I can tell you that my brothers feel the same." Under his breath, he adds, "Unfortunately."
"But about Zayne," Caleb continues. "I know he's been cold toward you, but he's just like that sometimes, okay? Try not to take it personally. And I've already told Sylus off about stinging you, alright? He's gonna give you a very, very light sting. There's nothing for you to worry about.
"And, I should have said this sooner, but nothing will ever stop us from caring about you or desiring you. If anything, after you become a mother, those feelings will only grow. In our eyes, you'll always be our beautiful, precious girl, and nothing can change that." You nod, the tension in your body melting with every passing moment in Caleb's embrace.
"I hate to admit it," he starts, " but Rafayel is very good. You'll be fine with him. But if he upsets you, just come and find me and I'll have a word with him, alright?" That makes you giggle.
"Okay." A weight has been lifted from your shoulders, leaving room for your curiosity to grow.
After a beat, you comment, "But isn't it weird that you know that?"
"Hm?"
"About Rafie. Like, you're brothers."
"Well, yeah, but we're used to, uh, sharing," your dear scorpion clarifies. But if anything, his words only feed your prying itch.
"I know your last mate passed, and I'm sorry about that. But, like, if you don't mind sharing, of course, how many mates have you had? Like just the one and then me or?" Caleb thinks for a moment, humming quietly as he comes up with an answer.
"Six? Maybe seven, now. We've been trying for heirs these past few years, but it's hard to find someone who's compatible with our⌠biology."
"What happens when you're not compatible?" You've already said it before you could restrain yourself.
Caleb hesitates, eventually settling on, "Well, uh, you know?" If he means what you think he meansâŚ
"So you're saying that I essentially signed up for⌠for death by dick?" You utter, positively flabbergasted.
"No!" He groans, "Fuckin' hell. No, Pips! That's not how it worksâ"
"Then how does it work? You just⌠Like, is it from the stinging or?"
"Look, sometimes, yes, it's from the stinging. But other times, it's from the eggs, or maybe it's the nutritional demands of the developing scorplings. But you don't need to worry about any of that, okay? None of that's gonna happen to you. You're gonna have a healthy pregnancy, and everything will be just fine," Caleb tries to reassure you. But it's not working.
"Are those your nightly affirmations?! 'Y/n won't die from my biologically advanced dick' or whatever shit you gas yourself up with. God. I'm gonna die." You push off him, eager to get out of this caveâonce massive, but now suffocating. Replacing your tiara and snatching the lamp, you begin stalking out of the entryway, ignoring Caleb's pleas for you to wait. In a matter of moments, he catches up to you.
"Look, you're not gonna die, alright? Trust me, Pipsqueakâ"
"Trust you?! You lied to me! You literally just admitted to lying to me, and now you're asking me to trust you?! Get fucked, Caleb," you snap. He stops walking, feet glued in place to the cold floor.
"Believe me, I'm trying to," he mumbles.
"WHAT WAS THAT?!" You shout over your shoulder.
"NOTHING!" He returns, jogging to reach you. For the rest of the trip out of the cave, you and Caleb go back and forth about the dangerous situation you're in, the dangerous situation you wish you had been informed about before you agreed to this arrangement.
"None of you thought to tell me that I could die before letting me become your mate?!" You exclaim, exiting through the cave's opening and stumbling onto the hot desert plain. But instead of the sun glaring down at you, interrogating you on where you've been these past couple of hours, you find it kissing the skyline, cacti obscuring its golden glow. Just how long were you down there?!
"Well, to be fair," Caleb starts as he's born from the jagged rock's abysmal womb, "You already knew what happened to our last mate before you agreed to replace her. Don't think I didn't see that flier in your bag."
"You went through my stuff?!" You're livid.
He simply shrugs, "Actually, Tara went through your stuff as a security measure. But she did pass the flier on to me. So really, you can't say you had no idea of the risks involved in becoming our mate." You begin walking even faster, needing to be away from him and his careful manipulation of words as soon as you can. To think you trusted that round-eyed, sweet maid! Oh! How you've been betrayed!
"STILL!" You call to him. "YOU STILL COULD HAVE BEEN OPEN AND HONEST ABOUT THE OTHER CHALLENGES THAT COULD ARISE DURING PREGNANCY OR DELIVERY!"
"YOU'RE A GERBIL! DON'T YOU HAVE LIKE 40 SIBLINGS?!" He calls back. "WHY WOULD YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT CARRYING MULTIPLE YOUNG AT ONCE?!"
"JUST ADMIT THAT YOU'RE A FUCKING ASSHOLE ALREADY, CALEB!" You can't take it anymore. You break off into a sprint and book it to the palace's nearest entry point. However, upon slowing down and collecting your breath, you realise that this isn't the same point you used to access the royal gardens earlier this afternoon.
It's dark, only the rising moon beams and fading whispers of daylight guiding your unsure footsteps. From behind you, you can hear Caleb rapidly approaching, his breath surprisingly even despite the run he's broken into.
A lithe hand grasps you by the elbow and yanks you behind a nearby pillar. You scream into the scorpion's other hand, claws pressing into your fleshy cheek. Brilliant blue eyesâlike the sky outsideâstare down at you. Realising you're with Xavier, you begin to calm down. Feeling the softening of your body, he pulls you closer into his lean frame, your bodies nearly flush as Caleb's feet hit the smooth marble.
"Pipsqueak?" He calls out, his voice surrounding you. Subconsciously, you shift closer to Xavier, not wanting to be found by your former favourite scorpion.
"Pipsqueak?" Caleb coos. "Are you there? Oh, come on. Look, I'm sorry if that makes you feel better. You're right. We could have been more honest with you. And I know that you're scared. But you're a perfect fit for us. There's nothing you need to worry about." Pale slivers intensify, marking you and Xavier's huddled form.
"I'm just talking to myself, aren't I? Of course, I am," the violet-eyed scorpion sighs. His footsteps retreat, fading within a minute or so. Slowly, you and Xavier separate, your bodies peeling off each other. You both step back a little, freeing yourselves from the confinement of the pillar. You're the first to speak.
"Thanks," you breathe out, placing a hand over your wildly beating heart. He shakes his head a little.
"Your clothes are dirty," he remarks. You open your mouth, but no words come out. Your clothes are dirty? That's rich, coming from the man who spent the afternoon sleeping in the garden. But look down at yourself, indeed, you find his observation to be correct. There's reddish-brown powder streaked across your pants and top (somehow); it's even on your arms. However, by some miracle, his garbs are spotless.
"Dinner is soon. Go get changed. I'll cover for you." He's already walking away, heading deeper into the ghostly hall you've stumbled into.
"Wait!" You scamper over to him. He slows down to match your shorter strides. "Do you know where my room is?" With a sigh, he nods and leads the way.
The walk is terribly quiet and a bit awkward, or at least, that's how you interpret it. You two don't pass a single soul on your way back, and you begin to suspect he took a secret route so no one would see you together. When you emerge from some concealed passage you have no hope of finding ever again, you're at your suite's doorstep.
"Here you are," he says in that soft, tranquil voice of his. "Oh, and by the way, what Caleb said was true. You don't need to worry about any complications. We'll do that for you." He gives you a small smile before turning around and disappearing down the hall.
Momentarily, you stand there, watching him wander off as if everything is right in this twisted universe. Was that supposed to be reassuring? With a sigh, you enter your room and find Tara reorganising your closet. Your first thought is to give her a scolding for going through your things, but as she fusses over you and grabs another maid to prepare you for a bath, you release that resentment. She was just doing her job. Any newcomer to the palace likely faced the same treatment you did.
And you suppose that's another thing about being taken in my royalty: your life is no longer private. Now you can understand why Caleb left that lamp in the cave; sometimes, even kings have to escape their luxurious lives.
"You're late," Zayne mutters, his gaze cruel and unwavering, nearly strong enough to pin you to the doorway.
"Sorry," you mumble, quickly rushing to your seat beside Rafayel. Sitting down, you see he's piled all sorts of insects and veggies onto your plate.
"Thanks," you whisper to him, leaning close enough for your shoulders to brush.
Petulantly, he says, "I haven't seen you all day, you know? If I didn't know any better, I would say you were avoiding me."
Swallowing your bite of a sweet, boiled carrot, you reply, "I wasn't avoiding you, Rafieâ" Lie. "I just⌠got busy."
"Doing what?" He pouts.
"Perhaps you should be asking: doing whoâ?"
"Oh, shut up, bird brains," Rafayel snaps, glaring at his haughty brother across the table. "As if my precious little gerbil would be laid up with you all day."
"Our precious little gerbilâ"
"Same difference," the purple-haired scorpion fires back. Tired of Sylus's antics, Rafayel turns to you and asks, "So where were you, Cutie? Did you happen to get lost or something?" At that question, you can feel Caleb's gaze flicker to you. The table waits in anticipation for your answer, the scraping of knives and forks dimmed by their curiosity.
"Yeah," you utter. "I was exploring the palace when I got lost."
"You must be hungry then," Zayne remarks, his voice sounding as detached as always. "I recommend you eat up to replenish your strength. You'll need it." A warning cloaked in tender advice and delivered with the emotional range of a pebble. He doesn't think you're up to the challenge of bearing his children. And it's a shame that neither do you.
Similar to last night, your meal carries on in silence. However, after you've all finished, you don't retreat to the harem. Instead, the brothers go their separate ways, with Rafayel inviting you to spend some time with him.
"I was thinking we could go for a walk down by the river. It's really beautiful at night. Lots of the fish come out, and if you look closely, you can see them amongst the ripples. So what do you say?" He asks, holding onto your hands like he did the previous night. A yawn slips out before your answer does.
"Aw, Cutie! You must be tired. I'm sorry. How about I help you get ready for bed instead? You can come see the new curtains in my room. I think you'll like them." Before you can protest, Raf is already pulling out your chair and wrapping his arms around you. With ease, he hoists you up bridal style.
"Rafie!" You squeal, immediately clutching onto him and looking down; you're much higher up than you thought you'd be. As he starts walking, you exclaim, "Raf! Put me down! 'M heavy. Put me down before you drop me!"
"Heavy? Puh-lease, Cutie. You clearly don't know how jacked I am." Without slowing down, he adjusts his hold on you, shuffling you upright so one arm supports you beneath your rear while the other is free to flex and show off his toned muscles. While Rafayel doesn't have the bulk his brothers do, his strength and physique are no less impressive.
The entire trip to his private quarters is filled with your giggles and shrieks whenever he decides to toss you around. When you enter, you notice how the suite is bathed in mulberry moonlight, with gold accents winking at you.
Rafayel eventually places you down, choosing his bed as your first taste of freedom. It's soft and plush, moulding to your sitting bones as you stare up at him, still standing between your legs. He glances at the curtains, gently stepping away from you and toward them.
"They used to be teal, but I think I like the plum better. What do you think, Cutie? Is it dark enough for you? I can request different curtains if you don't like the colour, or if you want the room to be darker."
"No," you answer, gazing about the room. "I like it." The decorative style is simplistic and calming, yet contrasted by the most gorgeous trinkets you've ever seen. It's cosy and sensual without even trying to be.
The purple-haired scorpion sighs, relieved, "Good." Strolling back over, he plops down beside you and draws you into his taut body. For a moment, you bask in each other's presence, unfamiliar but curious to know more.
Fondly, Rafayel asks, "Do you wanna sleep here tonight? We can build a pillow wall if that would make you feel more comfortable. Or I can go sleep on the couch. It's up to you. If you don't want toâ"
"S'okay," you say, your eyelids feeling heavy and your body sinking into Rafayel's side. "We can sleep together. I don't mind." If you looked right now, you would see the warm smile melting on his lips, eyes going all gooey and round at your sweet voice. He keeps you close for as long as he can, your breathing slowing as sleep crawls up your spine, eager to consume you.
But before it can, Rafayel helps a heavy-limbed, pliant you out of your clothes, adept fingers knowing exactly which buttons to undo and how much pressure to apply to release you from those clothes as quickly and seamlessly as possible.
He dresses you up in one of his shirts, the fabric drenching you in a way that gives him cuteness aggression. Rafayel even brushes your teeth for you, despite your insistence that you can do it yourself; two days in, and he already loves doting on you.
By the time your head hits the pillow, you're out pretty much immediately. You've had a long day filled with emotional twists and turns; anyone in your position would be exhausted.
Watching you curl up under his covers, your nose pressed to the blankets and inhaling his scent sends Rafayel's inspiration sparking. He fetches a notepad and a brush and begins sketching you out, his eyes full of wonder with every glance at your sleeping form.
It takes a while to tire himself, but when he's finally ready to settle in beside you, a completed sketch of you sits on his desk, uncoloured. He tells himself he'll colour it tomorrow morning, but he won't. There will never be a shade of purple that matches the glow on your face, or a blue as deep as the sheets cradling your body.
With a sigh, the scorpion folds himself around you, tucking you into him and holding you protectively, as if in a second you might vanish. Or even worse, you might wake. Sleep eludes him for the next hour, but when it finally comes, he wishes it wouldn't take him away so easily. Just one more minute to admire your beauty, to observe the little blemishes peaking out beneath your stubborn makeupâlittle blemishes he vows to see fully one day. And he won't have to wait long.

Š jellyelle 2026. do not copy, repost, translate, or feed my works into ai.
Never have ive read such a mouth watering piece. I CAN SMELL THE DAMN NOODLES THROUGH THE SCREEN.
Iâd like to say this is probably one of the only series Iâd be glad to read on ao3 if it had a 100k word count and 7297483 chapters between that word count.
Your style of writing has a sort of prose and flow to it that makes me want to chase after each word on the screen, and the amount of times I check your tumblr for an update should merit enough for bet on how many times Iâll check. (Hell why havenât I followed you yet I thought I did-)
Your ability to seamlessly integrate their personalities in this AU without having to shift their core values is something I really love. Itâs shows how much you try to stay true to their character.
The plot(if there even one IM NOT COMPLAINING HERE-) Doesnât have any actual choppy jumps, itâs easy to piece together information and makes it very enjoyable to read!
humor comes naturally to this piece alongside seriousness. Youâre able to fully articulate emotions and expressions without a whole barge of words. (Scorplay⌠mmâŚ. Such a wonderful new word in the dictionary⌠Iâll petition Oxford to add it-)
But in all genuinely, Iâm going to print all 22k+ through my printer (rip my supply of paper) and ingrain this into my eyeballs because itâs WAYYYYYY too good to leave in the dust.
But be sure to take breaks and focus on yourself first, you canât do anything if you canât even lift a finger. (Ao3 never come for you I volunteer myself as a sacrifice so u stay safe)

Genuinely I'm disappointed at the fact that it's a rerun. I love raf but. It's been 4 months since the last myth, despite it ranging from a few weeks to two months depending on availability. Like seriously? Im not a Caleb main nor a sylus main, but what made ur asses decide a back to back, myth vs bday was good....

đź MDNI 18+ (Rafayel headcanons)
đź He's big. not in the way that's he's only 1 foot taller than usual. Instead he's like a 12 foot mass of scales and jewelry. His tail makes up most of his supposed "height" actually. Sea creatures are typically bigger than land animals due to the fact that most of the Earth's surface is 75% water, hence allowing them more space to reign.
đź His fins are both decoration and use. He can use them to feel vibrations in the water or they can cut through the water to allow himself to travel faster. They also serve a purpose to woo others, their pearlescent nature glinting in both sunlight and moonlight. It's proven specially effective towards you. You can't count how many times he's lured you into the sea with the tips of his fins.
đź He dresses you up with pearls very often. Of course he has rubies, opals, diamonds, all of that. However the moon is bright and pure, a visage of divinity and love above the ocean. Pearls replicate such beauty, and so he lavishes you in them so whenever he looks up, he'll be reminded of you.
đź On the days he takes you to the ocean, he often settles on the seafloor to rehydrate his scales and just be a bit closer to his home even if destroyed. Of course, due to his massive nature, you won't be close to him. So he'll settle you on his tail or on one of the coils of it. One of his arms or both will latch around your waist his thumb rubbing soothing circles on your skin.
đź In his human form he lean's towards the paler side, not too pale that he's whiter than a sheet, but in the water he looks like a ghost. Sunlight tends to filter out at a certain sea level, and so lemurians have developed translucent skin. It nearly gave you a scare when you first saw his true form properly, and he pouted all day, whining about how his cutie thought he was a monster.
đź If he's feeling lazy and doesn't want to hand paint texture onto his canvases, he'll use his tail to slap on said textures. Usually it involves you too somehow, he'll find a way. Be it applying paint on his fins or simply holding the canvas still as his tail runs over the wood. (He'll later complain that the cavas was too rough on his scales and cling to you dramatically.)
đź He likes to explore your body, not in a way that's sexual though. (but he does do that too) When you're sleeping he'll commit your body to memory, every mark and every fold. Sometimes you can catch him playing with your fingers or staring intently at your body. Even when he massages your feet after a long day of hunting, he still studies you. The slope of your ankle or how your joints and flesh meet. You and him have a lot of differences, but he'll be damned if he does something wrong all because he didn't take time to learn you.
đź Likewise, he encourages you to explore him. When he drags you to the bath, he'll take your hands and let you run them all over him. Lemurian form, human, doesn't matter. He'll let your fingers trail anywhere you'd like. He can use his words to tell you to stop, and you can use your words to tell him if you're uncomfortable.
đź He loves to keep you in his studio if you ever come over. He spends a good chunk of his time trying to convince you to stay. His bed (Nest) is one of his favorite places to keep you in. If he ever sees you in his bed, out of your own will despite work or anything, it settles inside of him in a way that soothes his soul.
đź Beach picnics are his thing. Fancy dinners are fine, homemade food is even better, hell even the fast-food restaurant is good. But there's something about the beach and your smily face in the sunlight. You so joyful where his home is.
đź Heâs terrified of cats but collects âcat-repellentâ souvenirs. Every time he travels, he brings back the tackiest anti-cat charms or statues because âthey keep the devils away.â The real reason? Heâs jealous of how much attention you give random stray cats. Heâll never say it, but youâll catch him side-eyeing a kitten with the same energy he gives your co-workers when you hang out too long. đź He drags you over to name his paints and artworks. Oh he crushed a piece of seaweed as binder and a few pigments, what do you want to name it? Seaweed monster? okay! Thomas then proceeds to chew Rafayel out for naming his paints that, all the while he defends it in your name. something along the lines of "My cutie named it, do not insult my beloved." đź If you're ever to break a bone he will draw and squiggle on your cast. Small meaningful messages, signatures, curses in lemurian you don't know how to read but coincidentally that day you have less paperwork, the mission was easier than usual, and no birds pooped on your motorcycle.
--- (NSFW section) đź Rafayel has two.
đź In Rafayel's full Lemurian form, the genital area is at the transition point where human-like skin meets thicker tail scalesâright at the base of the pelvis/where the tail starts.
đź There's a slit (often called a cloacal slit or genital slit): A vertical or slightly oval seam hidden under overlapping protective scales. The scales here are softer, thinner, and more flexible than the rest of the tailâusually a deeper purple/blue shade, flushed when aroused.
đź When not extended, it's sealed tight and almost invisible. When aroused or willed open, the slit parts smoothly, slick with natural mucus/lube (clear to slightly pearlescent, salty-ocean scent). The opening is puffy and sensitive around the edges, and both appendages emerge from the same shared slit.
đź The primary one (the more "human-like" one): Emerges first or more prominently. Roughly 9â10 inches long when fully extended. Thickest at the base with a flared ridge or knot-like swelling that tapers down the shaft toward a narrower, pointed tip (not mushroom-shaped like human, more tapered/arrow-like for easier entry). Surface has subtle ridges or soft barbs along the underside that can flare/grip during orgasm to lock in place. Color gradients from deep indigo/violet at the base to brighter coral/pink toward the tip. Veins glow faintly when he's worked up. It produces a lot of precum which is thick, warm, pearlescent.
đź The secondary one: Emerges alongside or below the first from the same slit. Longer (11â12+ inches) but thinner overall, very flexible and muscular like a tentacleâit can curl, coil, twist, and move independently (wrapping around thighs, stroking the primary one, seeking spots on its own). Covered in soft, velvety scales or tiny sensitive nodules/suckers along the underside for extra grip/texture. Tip is finely tapered and can slightly flare or open like a flower for teasing/sensation. It lashes or curls more wildly when he's close to climax, and tends to be more "active" during sex.
đź Both share the slit as origin, so when fully out, the slit stays wide openâmaking the whole area hypersensitive (touching or thrusting near the slit stimulates him internally too). Ejaculation is double: primary one pumps steady thick loads deep inside, secondary one writhes and spurts more erratically (can push in, coat externally, or seek crevices).
đź the slit also applies in his human form, nestled where his cock would be. Overall they look the same, but when it comes to grinding over each other, the scales around his slit catch on your clit deliciously. He also tends to thumb over both your dewy folds, whispering dirty things about how they look alike.
đź His tongue is also freakishly long, it always amazes you when it unfurls in your cunt as he slurps up your nectar like it was his greatest snack. The tip is unusually soft though, with soft barbs that always scrape against your g-spot with startling precision. It makes you thrash and squeal, but his hands always pin you down before you can get too far. đź Rafayel often acts like a bratty sub, but in bed he's a whole new nature. Oftentimes everything is either set up by him, or he. takes control very easily. But honestly sex with him is very loving. His soul is yours, your soul is his. Sex is not to take control or submit, but to show each other the intimate parts of yourself that you don't let others see. A ritual of love and passion, to know and learn.
đź Aftercare often ends with your limbs tangled with each other. Rafayel tends to shift around, skin on skin as he presses further into you just to feel you better. You can whine about it all you want but he never will stop, his hands will roam and he'll seek the flesh underneath you skin to become more intertwined.

But greed does not spawn from nothingness. It is an abyss that swallows and swallows, and therefore one must become second nature to it. It is that abyss that has led him to you.
Contents: MDNI, P in V, brief oral sex, soft sylus, probably ooc too, plot pulled out of nowhere, vague descriptions of what sounds taste like, money spending, poorly developed plot, light aftercare, biting, more plot than sex tbh, if I need to say more please tell me.
WC: 5.1k
AN: What am I doing. Anyways this is for @sylusdreams , uh. I hope you enjoy my blackout-ed writing that hasn't been beta read once. hehe. oh god what am I doing.
Desire and greed are subjects Sylus is familiar with. That all-consuming need to consume, to hold and possess, to the unbearable satisfaction of having something within your palm. Heâs chased it for years, held the wisps of bubbling fear and crushed it underneath his palm. Onychinus is a result of such ambition after all. Mephisto is a product of which his greed extended. The want and need to know. Libraries have been created in his wake to store all the books heâs gathered, all the knowledge at his hands in the form of inanimate objects. Heâs recorded and stored thousands of scrolls, endured hell and back for his unrelenting will. But greed does not spawn from nothingness. It is an abyss that swallows and swallows, and therefore one must become second nature to it. It is that abyss that has led him to you. Your ambition rivals his own. Thousands of lives spread in each and every lifetime, an all-consuming passion burnt to ashes yet rebuilt from gold.Â
Your greed has both cursed him and blessed him. The desire to love, the desire to keep despite sand slipping through fingers. It has always fascinated him throughout his lives.
What mortal would challenge a dragon? What sane-being would summon an archfield? And now⌠What hunter would stand eye to eye towards the Head of Onychinus?
Much less boss him around, most would be cowering in fear, head tipped down and trembling.Â
After all, thatâs what instinct demands.Â
To submit to the superior if it means youâll live another day, revenge always set aside for tomorrow. But you always had that look in your eyes, defiant like the burning of a flame near squashed out. He loves it.His aethercore demands and demands, feeding into his own desire. Whispering sin and death. But almost always, it is your aethercore that asks of you to consume him whole, his soul and body yours to feed off. You never listen to it. Society has always condemned sin, fitting it through a lens of black and white, a sharp line between the two. It has suppressed your needs and suppressed your wants, leaving you starving as your world crashes. They taught you to stay silent. The powerful sorceress heâs seen in each life has diminished.
It makes his heart ache. Youâre the only person who heâd allow to consume him. To use what heâs built from scrap metal and greedily swallow until the hunger in your bones is sated. Yet he can not gain what he hungers for, because you can not give in to what has been considered taboo. So heâll make you ask. Heâll take you apart so slowly, make you tell him what to do and how to do it. Heâll tear down the layers piece by piece until your greed and his desire merge, settling into one. But for now, heâll settle with the feeling of your palms in his. â Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Outside, the city glows in fractured goldâ neon signs flickering, headlights streaking past wet pavement. Despite the late hours of the night, the city still thrums with a pulse of its own, like two sides of the day.
Your mind settles on a certain red-eyed fruit vendor.
You doubt heâs asleep.
If anything, heâs probably standing somewhere high above the city right now, jacket draped over a chair, sleeves rolled just enough, gaze unreadable as he listens to reports. Or maybe heâs alone, reviewing documents no one else is allowed to see.
Because of course heâs nocturnal. How does he manage the N109 zone in the day? You wonder.
You open your phone, and almost immediately youâre greeted by the same notifications of that knock-of cheap clothing app.(you regret not using your spam email.)
The shopping app icon stares back at you.Â
Hesitantly you open the app. Not even 10 seconds in your screen explodes with thousands of ads, âFREE SHIPPING.â â50% OFFâ, âNO TAX!â. But when you glance at the prices, you flinch in disgust at the numbers.
Window shopping you call it, when itâs really just a reminder to settle your ego.
âMeager hunterâs salary,â you mutter to yourself.
You stare a little longer at the outrageous prices, before leaning back into the cushions and sighing.
Oh what luxury itâd be to be financially stable.. Suddenly, a glint of black catches your eyes. A sleek, dark card lays on your counter. Sylusâs, sleek black card. He mustâve left it when he came over for dinner. (you call it dinner when in reality it was a whole banquet. He hadnât even let you spend a single dime, instead bringing over food packaged by his private chef. ) Like second nature, your thumb taps his name.
Then you call. Within a few seconds he picks up, his familiar, warm voice greeting you. âYou donât call me at this hour without a reason.â he starts, â Youâre often asleep at this time.â Suddenly the room feels hotter. Your relationship with him hadnât gotten off to a good start in the beginning. He had kidnapped you, forced you to resonate, had you pierce his chest with a bullet, and practically forced you to fight for your life.
However, over time you had slowly gotten closer. Through forced circumstances like the evol-linking, and through small mundane events. For all his extravagant tastes, he didnât seem spoiled or out of touch. âYou left your card at my place. Do I assume that I can spend it all or-â âGo ahead.â What. You sputter. If anyone barged in through the door, they'd see you with your eyes popping out of your skull. Thereâs a pause on the line. Not awkward, not uncertain â deliberate.
âYouâre gawking at it like youâve never seen money before,â he murmurs, low and amused.
You flush, but he doesnât wait for a reply.
âDo you want me to come over and watch you spend it?â
You can just hear the smirk from the other side of the screen.
Your fingers twitch over your phone, but you canât look away from the line.Â
This is ridiculous.
He has more money than you could spend in ten lifetimes. You know that. Heâs made it very clear, in his own subtle, infuriating way, that resources are not something he lacks. In fact heâs goaded you into spending his card sometimes, an annoying smirk on his face as he seems to glow with satisfaction.
But asking feels different.
It feels like crossing an invisible line.
You can almost hear his voice in your head â low, composed.
If you want something, ask.
Thatâs the problem.
You donât know if this is something heâd find amusing⌠or something heâd file away as leverage.
You press your lips together, staring at the ceiling.
Well?â he prompts, low and deliberate, the smugness in his voice impossible to ignore.
âDo you want something?â
Your fingers twitch. You feel your heartbeat in your throat.
âI⌠Iâll just pick a few things,â you finally manage, trying to sound casual.
âGood.â His tone sharpens slightly, deliberate, almost like a blade being drawn.
âHypothetically, you donât have an attachment to your card, do you?â âWhy would I? Thatâs one of many accounts sweetie.â This guy really has no concept of humility, does he? âFine then, donât be surprised when thereâs nothing left.â You hang up, satisfied with your ominous threat. Little do you know, a satisfied smile stretches across his lips at your antics.Â
â-
To be loved is to be changed. Words spoken in movies, scripts, and thousands of books. Whispered to loved ones, muttered to friends, and said resolutely to graves. And now, those words couldnât be any less than true. For the past 20 years of his life, Sylus had always been regarded as a cruel and ruthless leader. Onychinus was always unrelentless, debts and secrets unearthed in mere days. With each revelation, his reputation as a tyrant and criminal grew. But now? No, what Sylus? âSkye, are you sure I can use⌠all this?â You stand in front of him, his body posture sprawled over the chair. You fidget with the card in your hands, the gold rimming occasionally scratching against your nails. âI already said you could,â He replies, languidly swirling a cup of red wine in between two fingers. âUnless, youâd like me to aid you? You do have a tendency toââ Almost immediately, your hand covers his mouth. â Sh! No. We are not talking about that!â You look so flustered, and it scratches a part of him that likes to see others squirm. âBesides! If you were in my situation, what else would you do when a criminal offers you a fuckton of money?â
It's amusing to see you so flustered, but for your sake he pretends to ponder over it. âWell, Iâd take the money. Nothingâs illegal in the N109 zone.â âIsnât everything you do illegal in the N109 zone?..â You deadpan. âLaw is just repetition with better branding.â He replies, taking a sip of his wine. The flavour is sharp and permeating, seeping into her tastebuds. âIn Linkon following the law is natural, however in this place itâs not.â
You sigh, before gently grabbing his wrist. âThenâŚ. Would you come with me to shop?â âAre you taking up my offer?â He asks. He watches you squirm, oblivious to the contentment and warmth spreading in his eyes at the question. Itâs not a demand, but itâs a start. âWell, you always complain about how cheap I am.â you retort. âThat is true, perhaps I should give you a taste of luxury thenâ He places his glass on the table beside him, red eyes roving over your form before standing up. âLuke, Kieran, clear my schedule.â He says, not bothering to turn around as he hears a chorus of âYes boss!â before hearing the tell-tale sign of your footsteps. âAre we going now?!â You stare at him in shock, âI have work tomorrow, I canât afford to be up this late-â âThen Iâll make sure you don't,â He says, his eyes drifting over to Kieran, who nods with understanding. âItâll take some work to get you to understand.â âI-â He slows his pace, looking at you. â Itâs weird. In the beginning, his eyes were the warmest red youâd ever seen.
And the coldest. They regarded you with no emotion, seemingly relentless in the pursuit of power. They handed you over to cold steel and strapped leather.Â
Back then you saw him as a monster. Something to conquer, something to tame. Something to escape. But now they stare at you with pooled warmth, a softness like the velvet of his bed. Adoration and love bleeding into one. âCat got your tongue, kitten?â Itâs interesting. How he isnât aware of how his pupils dilate at the sight of you, how his hand always finds its way to you, how he seems to rewrite the laws of existence for you. Itâs hard to navigate such power, after all, most of your life is spent trying to live. This indulgence is something precious, luxury like the wines he has imported and the gems he stores within his vaults.
So you smile, closing your hand around his, loosely linking your fingers.Â
âNo, just thinking about how Iâm going to make you regret handing over your card.â Smug satisfaction settles inside of you. He laughs, a rich echoing sound that nestles underneath your ribs and stays there, lingering. His and your footsteps echo through the halls of his safehouse, the walls watching your every move. âWeâll see.â The silence stretches heavy after that, but it doesnât snap. Like a blanket thatâs just a little bit too suffocating. And so his hand guides you into one of his cars, and you let him. Indulgence may be a sin but thereâs a reason why people give in. â The boutique is silent in the way only extremely expensive places are. It makes you sweat in the face of all this luxury, the ample music of the store slowly settling in as you cling to Sylusâs arm. You envy him and his seemingly unshakable confidence.
Soft lighting. Marble floors. Dresses displayed like artifacts instead of clothing. Locked behind glass cases and hung from golden poles, way different from the comforting âadd to cartâ button youâve spent your savings buying. âSylus I was joking! I donât actually need to buy anything-â âAnd I wasnâtâ He says, âbesides, Mephisto already saw you eying those knock-off dresses.â A twinge of annoyance flashes through you, how could that crow betray you! âStupid birdâŚâ You mutter, which prompts Sylus to raise an eyebrow. âIâll be sure to tell him that.â The next 5 minutes are spent with you batting Sylusâs arm. It took too long to get that bird to back the hell away from your earring! âCalm down, â he plucks a dress off the rack, the fabric glinting in a sheen of sleek material and practically screaming of money. âHow about this?â
You scoff, âI donât need you to pick out my dresses, I know my taste.â âBut you donât know how to actually use it.â He retorts, waving over an attendant. âPut this in the changing room.â The attendant bows slightly and disappears with the dress. Fear and excitement are written over her face, but she makes no further effort to acknowledge it, instead scrambling off to gossip not so discreetly about you two.
You stare at him.
âI hate when you do that.â
âDo what?â
âAct like you own the place.â
Sylus glances around once, twice, before looking back at you with a passive, unimpressed expression.
âI donât,â he says calmly.Â
You let out a sigh of relief.
âYet.â
You smack his arm again.
He doesnât even flinch. âYou canât just buy every single store in the vicinity!â You squawk, âthe economy would crash and Iâll have to depend on you even more!â Your eyes narrow. âUnless⌠Youâd like that.â He doesnât deny nor affirm your thought, instead shrugging slightly and pulling out another dress.Â
âYouâre impossible.â
âAnd youâre stalling.â
You cross your arms. âI am not.â
The dress in his hands gleams and ripples like liquid silk. It looks like itâd fit you like a glove, but youâd rather not risk it. Instead you turn away and look over at another section of the store. Which just so happens to be the exit.
âYou are,â he replies, smooth as silk. âYouâve been circling the same three displays for four minutes.â
Your mouth opens.
Closes.
You feel like a fish out of water, spine pricking at the looks the attendants around you give. Conveniently, Sylus had rented out the whole store on short notice. So now itâs just you, him, money-hungry attendants, and the glittering displays.
âYouâre exaggerating.â You finally sputter out.
âThree minutes and forty-two seconds, then.â He replies.
You glare at him.
He looks entirely pleased with himself.
Then the attendant from earlier returns. âThe fitting room is ready.â She gestures to the back, a curtain of red velvet and a door that seems entirely too large to be just a fitting room string back at you.Â
Sylus gestures lightly with two fingers. âGo on.â
You hesitate.
He notices immediately.
âAfraid the dress might bankrupt me?â he asks, tilting his head just the slightest in that condescending manner of his.
You lean closer to him, dropping your own voice. âThese dresses donât even have price tags on them.â
âThey do.â He turns toward you, his hand firmly pressing you towards impending doom as his other hand neatly tucks itself into the pocket of his slacks. âEvery store does. Donât tell me your memory has atrophied since youâve started shopping online.â
âWhere?â You hiss, leaning back into his palm which only supports your weight.
âIn the system.â He smoothly replies.
âThatâs worse!â
A faint smirk curves his mouth.
âAre you afraid of the number?â
You straighten. âNo.âÂ
âGood.â Then, he opens the too large door and pushes you inside.
Inside the fitting room, the lighting is even softer. Meant to tempt patrons.
The dress hangs from another golden hook, seriously how rich is this boutique??? It seems to give you a look, something along the lines of âItâs too late now.â You want to be petty, maybe refuse and walk out the door just to feel like you have some control. But the red on the dress mirrors the hue of Sylusâs eyes, and you donât know why youâre suddenly compelled to wear such an atrociously priced piece of fabric. He⌠wouldnât be mad at you. You know that. You could walk out right here, and he wouldnât stop you. Only follow. But your hands still reach out, and suddenly the dress is settled in your hands, feeling smoother than the surface of water.
The fabric glides over your skin like water. Structured. Heavy in a way that feels intentional. The kind of dress that alters the way you stand. An ego boost.
When you step out, Sylus is leaning against the opposite wall, arms folded.
He looks up.
And stills.
Itâs subtle â the shift. But you see it.
His gaze drags from your shoulders down to your waist, then lower. Not hungry.
Assessing.
Approving.
âWell?â you ask, trying not to fidget.
He steps forward once.
Then again.
Until heâs close enough that the boutique fades into background noise.
âYou like it,â he says quietly.Â
You want to refute. Thereâs always something in you that wants to be defiant, but there is an undeniable aspect to it. You do in fact like it. Itâs soft, pretty, and flattering on you.Â
You swallow. ââŚMaybe.â
His fingers brush the fabric at your waist. Testing the material. The structure. But they linger longer than necessary.
âIt fits well,â he murmurs. His hand gently curls around your waist, palming it as he looks at you. Drinking you in with sin and indulgence. âLooks like they took the measurements seriously."
âThatâs not what I meant.â You look away, the intensity of his gaze swallowing.
âI know,â he says.
His eyes lift to yours.
âHow much is it?â You ask. âDoes it matter? I have enough.â He replies, but it does nothing to soothe the worry inside of you.
â900?â you guess, attempting to guage the price off his face. He scoffs. âDo you think of me as cheap?â
âOne thousand?â You press. âHigher, sweetie.â You press your lips together. â5k.â âWarmer,â His hands gently stroke over your hair, âThough still pretty far away.â âTen thousand?â
He doesnât react.
âYou could fund operations with that,â You stare, flabbergasted at the sheer price.âOr upgrade weapons. Orââ
âOr,â he interrupts gently, âI could buy you a dress.â
Time seems to stop with those words. Indulgence was always something not many could afford. You included. There was always the threat of debt, budgets, bills, and more. Replacements, gear, so much. Oftentimes you found it lucky you were able to even eat proper nutrition.
To spend that much on clothing seems ridiculous. You look down at the silk, warm, red, and soft. A garment that surely would be saved for special occasions. âI wonât wear this much.â you murmur, fiddling with the fabric. âIt isnât⌠responsible to buy it.â
His expression shifts â not irritated.
âYou make me want to do irresponsible things.â He looks at you, an unbearable emotion in them. âBeisdes, being responsible is ensuring you survive.â
His hand slides from your waist to your wrist, turning your palm upward. His thumb presses lightly against the center.
âYou survive,â he says. âYou fight. You bleed.â
His gaze softens â barely.
âAnd you deny yourself indulgence after all that blood.â
Your chest tightens.
âIâm not used to this,â you admit quietly.
âI know.â
No mockery.
No teasing.
Just certainty.
He lifts your hand slightly, brushing his lips over your knuckles â slow, deliberate.
âYou donât have to be used to it,â he says. âYou just have to allow it.â
Your heartbeat stutters.
âWhat if I regret it?â you whisper again.
âThen Iâll buy another,â he replies smoothly.
âThatâs not how regret works.â
âIt is when the problem is scarcity.â
You stare at him.
He reaches past you, toward the attendant who has respectfully kept distance.
âWeâll take it.â
Your head snaps toward him. âSylusââ
He doesnât even look at the attendant.
âAnd the black one she pretended not to like.â
Your face burns. âI did not pretendââ
âYou did.â
The attendant nods and retreats.
You whirl toward him. âYou canât just decide that!â
âI didnât,â he says calmly. âYou did. You simply lacked follow-through.â
You huff in frustration. He only ignores your discontent, instead guiding you back into the changing room to swap back into your clothes. When you come back out, you see a bag in his hands, the attendant holding out a card reader as Sylus immediately turns to you. In his hands is a card. âGo on.â Hesitantly, you take the piece of golden-rimmed black plastic from his hands. It's not hard to spend money. All it takes is to hand paper over, or to tap it against a screen. Itâs what makes people go into debt anyways. The temptation and the satisfaction of finally having something. When the reader beeps, you expect to feel the after-taste of regret. The lingering questions about how much youâll have to do to make up the money. Besides, the dress was an atrocious price for⌠The disappointment never comes. Instead in its place is a feeling of content. When you back, Sylus is already staring at you, a smirk on his face. âWas that so hard?â It wasnât.
âEverything I own is yours,â he murmurs, âYou just have to ask for it.â
And thatâs why loving you is dangerous.
â
"Come on."
A beat.
"Sink your teeth in me." You don't know how you got here. In fact youâd have trouble tracing the day tomorrow, nestled in the crook of his arm with marks and bites laden all over him. Maybe it started when you pawed at his chest, a sudden need overtaking you. A blooming in your chest as whispers as filthy as sin dug its claws into your mind. Maybe it started when his own aether core sunk deep into your eyes, swallowing your desires and reveling in the bond you've created. Perhaps it was the filthy mash of lips on flesh, Hands fumbling with his collar as a rich, amused laughter rang through the halls. Hands cradling the plush of your thighs as they hoisted you up across the hallways and through doors, bodies loath to part from each other.
A bond so consuming it feeds you both.
Your breath catches. The aethercore in your chest pulses like a persistent ringing in your ear. Hot, insistent, the same voice that's whispered devour him since the beginning.Â
You've fought it for so long.
But he's offering.
Noâdemanding.Â
In that infuriating way only he can.
His hand moves from your chin to the nape of your neck, fingers threading into your hair. They tug, pulling your neck back to coast across your pulse point towards the center of your neck.Â
"Take it," he murmurs into your skin. "Everything you've been starving for. Use me. Mark me. Let that greed out before it eats you alive."
His earlier statement flashes through your mind. âEverything I own is yours.âItâs an all-consuming hunger. A resonance thatâll never go away, throughout lifetimes and throughout worlds you will always be trapped in this loop of consuming and being consumed. To give and hold until nothing is left. You have too much of him. You don't have enough. âGet down.âÂ
You push him backward until his legs hit the edge of the bed. He lets you. Sits. Spreads his thighs so you can step between them.
The greed simmers beneath your skin, wants and needs spread out like a buffet and revealed like grand prizes. You can feel the red of his irises sink into the depths of your soul, just like how your hands fumble with his shirt. The fabric gives underneath your fingers, revealing smooth skin and tanned flesh. The sight is tantalizing.
You lean down.
Your lips brush his collarbone firstâtesting. Then your teeth graze. Flavour blooms beneath your teeth and tongue like no other. Bursts of stardust and lingering tastes of ruby, the minerals of his sweat and the savouriness of his soul. Consume him. Addiction is sin. But it is also salvation. He exhales sharply. A low, approving sound.
"Harder."
You bite.
Not gentle.
Teeth sink in, claiming skin just above the ridge of his collarbone. He groans and his hands clamp on your hips, dragging you flush against him. The friction is heavenly. Like the fruit of eden finally beneath your stomach. You feel him, hard and straining through his trousers, pressing insistently against your stomach.
"Good girl," he rasps. "That's it. Let it out."
You move higher. Jaw. Throat. You bite againâharder this timeâsucking a mark into the side of his neck where his pulse hammers. He tips his head back, exposing more, offering everything.
His hands slide under the hem of your dress, bunching silk up your thighs. Fingers dig into bare skin, possessive, bruising in the best way.
"You taste like victory," he murmurs against your ear when you pause to breathe. To be loved is to be changed.
You pull back just enough to look at himâflushed, marked, eyes molten red and unguarded.
Then you kiss him.
It's not sweet. It's teeth and tongue and hunger. Unspoken wants and desires flayed through desperate claws and terrible teeth. âGive it to me.â You demand, panting into his mouth. âGive me it all.â You bite his lower lip hard enough to draw a coppery tang. He growls into your mouth, flips you in one fluid motion so your back hits the mattress, him looming above.
How could he ever deny you?
Lips on your throat first. Open-mouthed kisses that turn to bites. Sharp. Deliberate. Marking you in returnâcollarbone, shoulder, the soft underside of your jaw. Each one pulls a gasp from you, makes your back arch in a crescent.
His hands roam. Dress shoved up to your waist. Fingers hooking into lace, tugging it aside. Your core throbs.
He pauses there, forehead pressed to yours, breathing ragged. Cruelly denying you.
"Tell me you want this," he saysâlow, serious beneath the heat. "Say it."
You meet his gaze.
A part of you wants to shrink. But a bigger part wants to bloom. You give in to the latter. âI want it,â You whisper, a sight to behold. âI want you.âÂ
Something in him snapsâbeautifully, quietly. Pupils dilated. A ring of delicate ruby. Elation and delight. Like a feast set across a starving man. Perhaps he is starving, saving his appetite towards the course that is your love.
He surges forward.
Clothes disappear in a tangle of impatience. His mouth maps every inch he can reachâbiting, sucking, soothing with tongue. When he finally sinks between your thighs, it's reverent and ravenous at once. Tongue delving deep, teeth grazing sensitive skin just enough to make you cry out.
You fist his hair. Pull him closer. Push and pull. Soul against soul. Overlapping and merging.Â
He groans against you, the vibration sending sparks up your spine.
When you come, it's with his name on your lips and his fingers curled inside you, coaxing every last tremor.
He rises over you again, kissing you so you taste yourself on his tongue. It's salty. Itâs gross yet entrapturing. Something like need across your tastebuds, something like ruin that only comes in the form of Sylus.Â
"Look at me," he commands. âTell me you want me.â
Heâs thick at your entrance, the mushroom tip blooming a near angry purple. It sinks in just the slightest, a taste of love and a taste of warmth. Denial is both torture and reward. âFuckâ You feel so goodââ His hands bunch up the sheets at the side of your head, his cock spreading you wide and splitting your tender walls.Â
He pushes inâinch by inchâstretching, filling, claiming.
When he's seated fully, he stills. Lets you feel it. Feel him.
Then he moves.
Deep. Deliberate. Every thrust a reminder: you're his treasure. His hoard. His equal in greed. Something to love, something to treasure. Pleasure is a tightrope you both tread, pushing and bending with each and every shove of his hips against the back of your legs. His hands are a bruising force, latched firmly onto the curve of your waist as the filth that is your love squelches through the room. You match him. Nails raking down his back. Legs wrapped tight. Biting his shoulder when the pleasure edges too sharp.
He hisses. Thrusts harder.
"Mark me more," he growls.Â
Who are you to deny him?
Teeth find his throat again. You bite down as he drives into youâhard, relentless.Â
His rhythm falters. Breath hitching.
"Fuckâkittenâ"
You feel him swell, pulse. Feel your own core tighten around him.
"Come with me," he demands, voice breaking. Hand slipping between you to circle that aching spot. âSylus- Fuckâ gonna-!â
You shatter firstâclenching, crying out, nails digging crescents into his shoulders.
He follows seconds laterâburying deep, spilling inside you with a guttural groan, teeth sinking into the crook of your neck in a claiming bite that mirrors every mark you've left on him.
A bond everlasting, locked through jaws and greed. Through arousal and pain, through heaven and hell.
He doesn't pull out right away. Just holds you. Lips brushing the fresh bite on your neckâgentle now. Soothing. Unwilling to part from the cradle that is your body.Â
"Everything I own is yours," he murmurs against your skin, echoing his earlier words.Â
The aftershocks race down your spine, but your hands close around his back, holding him flush towards your chest. âThatâs unfair.â You murmur. Undeniably, he is yours. Undeniably, you are his.
âI donât intend for it to be,â he says, peppering kisses across your face, causing you to giggle. Itâs a blur, warm towels across your body. Love that is his, love that is yours. But in the end, you sleep in his arms, slumber in his bed, and wake to his face. His greed is yours. Your greed is his.
Tw: MDNI exhibition kink, semi-public sex, frottage and vaginal fingering. mean Rafayel, cum eating, Drabble.
Rafayel loves you too much for his own good.
It proven in the way he canât keep his hands off your body.
I mean, can you blame him?
Youâre beside him, all pretty and dolled up and you expect him of all people to behave?
Heâs almost feels bad when he drags you away, his fingers wrapped around your wrist in a firm hold as he rounds a corner and pins you to the wall.
âYou drive me insane cutieâŚâ
The words are a hot murmur whispered to your neck, the only witnesses being the air and his spit. His mouth presses rapid, open mouthed kisses against your pulse.
His cock is a hot unrelenting pressure against your thigh, grinding with each roll of his hips. His breath comes out in small pants as you whine, almost embarrassed at the display.
almost.
Itâs pathetic how both of you are so needy towards each other, your hips rocking against his thigh thatâs so conveniently stationed between your thighs. The gusset of your panties is surely soaked, you can feel your slick staining them.
âShhh⌠You donât want anyone to hear, do you?â Thereâs a cruel smirk on his face, and it makes your blood boil just the slightest.
âShush, Rafayel.â A wet squelch rings out in the dimly lit corridor, your ears burning with how lewd it sounds. âYouâre the one who got usâahh!â into this situation anyways!â
Before he can retort with that sassy mouth of his, you make up your mind to shut him up the only way that ever really works.
You surge up on your toes and crash your lips against his, swallowing the surprised little sound he makes. Your tongue slides against his immediately like puzzle pieces and he melts into it with a muffled groan, hips jerking forward so hard his cock drags roughly along your thigh through the fabric. The friction makes you both whimper into each otherâs mouths.
His hands are everywhere at once. One fists the hair at your nape to angle your head exactly how he wants it, the other shoves up under your dress without preamble. Long artistâs fingers hook the soaked edge of your panties and yank them aside so roughly the elastic bites into your skin for a second before heâs cupping your bare cunt.
âFuck,â he groans at the sight of your arousal sticking to the fabric. âYouâre dripping all over my hand already, babyâŚâ
Two fingers spear inside you without warningâ curling immediately toward that spongey spot that makes your knees threaten to give out. Your head thumps back against the wall with a soft thud and you have to bite your own lip to keep from crying out loud enough for the party down the hall to hear.
âRaf- Rafayel-mph!!â
âQuiet,â he hisses even as he grinds his clothed cock harder against your leg, chasing his own relief. âIf you canât keep your mouth shut, I might have to gag you.â
You glare at him through damp lashes even as your hips chase his fingers helplessly. âYouâreâahâsuch a pettyââ
He laughs, teeth grazing your pulse point. âYeah. And you love it.â
The hand in your hair slides down to cover your mouthâgently, but firm enough that your next moan is smothered against his palm. His fingers inside you crook again, harder this time, and your eyes roll back as pleasure spikes sharp and bright behind your navel.
Heâs panting against your ear now, words slurred with want. âFeel that? How fucking soaked you are for me? Anyone walks around this corner right now and theyâre gonna see my pretty girl getting finger-fucked stupid against the wall⌠gonna see how greedy this little pussy is, clenching every time I talk dirty to itâŚâ
You whine behind his hand, hips bucking, chasing more. The heel of his palm grinds against your clit with every thrust of his fingers and itâs too much, too fast, too goodâ
He must feel the way your walls start fluttering because his voice drops to something dangerous and pleased. âAlready? Fuck, youâre so easy for me tonight.â
You try to shake your headâno, not yet, not like thisâbut he just curls his fingers one more time, presses the flat of his tongue against your neck like heâs tasting your pulse, and growls,
âCome on my fingers, baby. Right here. Let me feel it.â
Your orgasm hits like a slap, your self control bursting messily all over him. You convulse around his fingers, thighs clamping down on his wrist, muffled cries vibrating against his palm as you soak his hand and the inside of your thighs. Your whole body jerks with it, hips grinding down shamelessly while he works you through the aftershocks, murmuring filthy praise against your skin.
âGood girl⌠thatâs it⌠fuck, listen to how wet you got meâŚâ
When you finally go limp against the wall, trembling, he slowly pulls his fingers free. The obscene shine of your release coats them all the way to the knuckles. He brings them up between your faces, smirking like the devil himself, thenâeyes locked on yoursâslides them into his mouth and sucks them clean with a low, appreciative hum.
Your face burns.
Quickly, his hands deftly readjust your dress, the hemline smoothed back down as he fusses with your hair. His hands remain tight around your waist as your lean against him.
Then, he leans in, kisses you slow and deep so you can taste yourself on his tongue, then murmurs against your swollen lips.
âWeâll continue this later.â
You swallow.
This was going to be a long night.
How does this hellsite workâŚ.

This is my first fic posted on here actually, HOOOO BOY THIS GODDAMN THANG HAS BEEN AN EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER FOR ME. Anyways um. Hi! If ur reading this, thank you, I hope you enjoy, I don't know whatim doing the spacing on tumblr is so ass stop shifting smh., OMG FUCKING GOD THIS POST HAS BEEN FIGHTING W ME
He hates them.
The luminescent pearls that spill from his eyes.
They come whether he wills it or not.Â
Gather at his lash line, swell, and fall heavy, striking stone or skin with a soft, humiliating sound. Too solid for tears. Too precious to be ignored.
On the market, theyâd fetch a pretty price. Thousands, just for a glimpse of something so divine. People would string them along collarbones, let them sway from earlobes. Let them rest against warm throats and pulse points. Theyâd boast about owning the tears of a Lemurian, speak the name with reverence while never once thinking of the mouth it fell from.
He doesnât know when the ugly feeling began. Heâs an artist. A creator. He shouldnât be ashamed of such beautyâ
But he is.
(They fall. Ripples tide outward as the sea roars, as if answering him in a language he no longer speaks. The sun tilts over churning water, light breaking itself apart on the waves while the Sea God folds inward, arms wrapped tight around foam and spray. Something that used to live. Salt clings to his skin. Or maybe thatâs just him.)
His skin is wrongâtoo scratchy, too big and too thin, too small and too thick all at once. It drags against overheated nerves, makes him painfully aware of every inch of himself.Â
His fingers twitch. Desperate suddenly.
To pop.
To tear himself apart.
To split open thin flesh and make way for cool scales.
To sink back into the deep where pressure would hold him together. Where silence would be kind.
Where he could swim in fields of seaweed and frolic with dolphins, gaze upon mortal land with free will and remain cradled by the ocean's embrace.
But he canât.
Heâs trapped in this mortal vessel, full of needs the land canât answer.Â
It sweats. It starves. It aches in ways the sea never taught him.
And he can never return to what was once his.Â
Spiraling chambers are now rubble, lemuria reduced to nothing but a ghost of memory. There is no one to greet him down at the depths of the sea, no paint to walk with, and no familiar wisp of flames.
They were all hunted.
Hung up like canvases.
Pinned open.
Bled for an audience.
Life reduced to exhibits. Their bones scrubbed clean and wired into pleasing shapes. Their scales polished beneath cruel white lights until they gleam, until they no longer look like armorâonly ornament. Wealthy ambassadors drift past with folded pamphlets and empty eyes, staring everywhere except the faces.Â
Except the souls still trapped inside the remains.
The bond would burn inside him, useless and desperate. A constant pull toward his bride, toward the place where he should have returned, where vows were once whispered into salt and current. The bond demands he give. That he go to her.Â
Instead, heâd be sealed in a museum.
A clean, white place.
Nothing like home. Nothing like his nest, layered with coral and bone and memory. Nothing that smells of life. Only disinfectant and cold air and the quiet buzz of electricity.
Something unfamiliar stirs inside himâuneasy and fragile. It coils low in his chest, presses outward against his ribs, searching for warmth. For safety. For a place to hide.
Something like fear.
He hates it. Almost as much as he hates the tears that keep pouring from his body, pearls ripping free as if he is being emptied from the inside out.
He is the god of the sea.
The Prince of Lemuria.
He is supposed to be strength incarnate. The embodiment of tide and undertow. Storms once bowed to his hands.
But his home is gone.
Lost beneath the roaring flame of the mortal world.
So he cries.
Unable to soothe the pain.
His tears echo the tidesâlow, restless.
Ebbing.
â
Crunch.
Crunch.
Crunch.
The pestle circles the mortar, grinding divinity down into something usable. Pearlescent powder stains the stone, clings to the lines of his palms, works its way beneath his nails.Â
No matter how much he scrubs, it always comes back.
A reminder he hates.Â
Paint bottles litter the floor, every shade of white imaginable. Milk. Bone. Ash. Pearl. They sprawl like wreckage, as if a storm tore through the room and hurled canvases from the walls.
He works.Â
Sunlight slips through the curtains, washing everything in dull orange. It catches on lavender hair, on the sharp slope of his cheekbones, on the dark hollows beneath his eyes.Â
Exhaustion should stop him.
Heâs been up all day, the heavy feeling of ebb day burning through his skin.Â
It still lingers now.
So he cradles a handful of pearls in one hand.Â
Evidence.
The other hand grinds them down without hesitation.
To distract himself.Â
To be more human if only to avenge those lost.Â
The powder is mixed with white paint, they become test tubes lined in careful rows. Swatches dragged across blank canvas. Ratios adjusted, discarded, remade. His fingers move faster than thoughtâdip, grind, mix, press.Â
The sound rings through the room, too loud in the absence of everything else.
Even the shore outside is silent.
Just him.
The pearls.
The canvas.
Another cycle.
It takes many tries to reach the hue only his eyes can catch. Something whispered. Something precise. A white that remembers pain. A white that is not clean.
Maybe one day the burden will be lighter.
Maybe one day heâll say the words he swallowed.
âIâll chase you to the ends of the sea.â
He said it once, with salt on his lips and faith in his chest.
Now he sits on a stool, spine curved, and paintsânot the sea. Not today.Â
Bones and skin flayed open. Boundaries erased. Blood smeared into a cold floor where it is meant to look accidental. Metal gleams. Tubes snake through bodies that are still alive enough to feel it.
An artist paints the words he cannot say.
His canvas, his mind.
His paints, the letters.
Outside, the ocean rumbles. The tide creeps closer, seeping in as if listening. As if soothed, just a little, by being remembered.
Firm brushstrokes carve a story no one knows how to read. Vengeance burns in every lineâsharp enough to cut, staged so carefully it looks fictional. A show the audience would howl at, until the red wine darkens and someone realizes it isnât part of the performance.
Then the party ends.
It seems thatâs all he knows how to do now.
Paint.
Fear still roars in him
â--
âRafayel?â You wave a hand in front of his face.
Rafayel startles, squawking indignantlyâfar too loud for someone who was definitely spacing out. It sounds suspiciously like a seagull. For all his hatred for them, he replicates their sounds perfectly.
Heâs been doing that more lately.Â
Drifting. Staring off like the worldâs gone quiet without telling you.
You donât know why.
Even during Kitty Cards, he hasnât had his usual drive to win. No teasing remarks, only a small smile and a disgruntled hum.
He didnât even argue back when Thomas complained about his deadlines, instead humming and picking up his paints.
Thatâs what really worries you.
Because who is this new person?
Who kidnapped your whiny, fishy Rafayel and replaced him with⌠whatever he is now?
âCutieeeeâwhy would you do that?â Rafayel huffs.
You donât even get a chance to answer.
Six feet of offended dramatics barrels into you, all limbs and indignation. His arms loop around youâlong, warmâclinging like an octopus thatâs decided youâre its favorite rock. His legs tangle with yours, and suddenly youâre tipping backward, the couch catching you both in an undignified sprawl.
âWhat if my heart suddenly stopped, huh?â he demands, voice thick with mock outrage. âWhat if you scared me to death?â
He tilts his head back, his fluffy locks tickling the underside of your chin. Your eyes meet sunset ones, lips pressed together in a mock pout before softening.
âWhat then?â he adds softly.
Now this is uncharacteristic.Â
The words get caught in your throat, your tongue a limp useless muscle in your mouth as rafayel stares up, waiting patiently.Â
You donât think thereâs ever been a day where he was so⌠vulnerable? Was that the right word? (Youâll soon realize it wasnât.) But something inside of you compels you to brush it off, the pleading tone of his lulling voice making you pout instinctively. âWhat if I got scared! You just shoved me into the couch you floppy fish!â You scoff, but thereâs no bite to your words, your eyes too fond to be angry at him. Your hands reach up to squish his cheeks, the soft skin giving way to your fingers.
You expect him to gasp, release one of those dramatic sighs of his. Maybe even pounce on you and roll you both into the floor. But instead, his lip wobbles, and suddenly his eyes are glassy.
Your heart drops. âRafayel?â you whisper, his lashes are wet, but almost immediately the pout on his face shrinks back to a smirk. Teasing. âHah! I knew you cared too much cutie!â His voice is triumphant, and you bat him with the palm of your hand, but they shake. He looked so close to crying.Â
And a pearl falls to the couch.
â He canât let you know.
He wonât let you see.
So he keeps it buried, the way the ocean keeps its teeth beneath a glassed surface.
But still, he yearns.
Your throat draws his gaze like a tide he refuses to answerâthe pale, vulnerable stretch of skin where your pulse moves like a trapped current. You bare it without thinking, to the world, to anyone.Â
That is the cruelty of it.
He wants to mark you the way the sea marks stone: patiently, relentlessly. To press his mouth there, slow and deliberate, until your skin remembers him.Â
Until the proof blooms dark and quiet.
Gods, what wouldnât he give to claim that shoreâto leave behind bruises like stormwater shadows, visible only to those who know where to look.
But he is scared. Because you do not know the urges that lie underneath, the ones that whisper dark secrets and terrible things. Â
The things heâd do to you, the things he'd do for you. Theyâre terrifying.Â
Heâll give you the pearls he hates so much, string them up on the finest silver he can get his hands on. Heâll drape them around your collarbone and arrange them just so to compliment the slope of your neck.Â
To make the bloom of darkened skin pop.
His fingers would linger, pressing where the bones of your collarbone meet. Lower his head until the tip of his tongue would curl around the shell of your ear and whisper dirty things. Just to feel your skin heat and watch your thighs squeeze.
But he canât.
He fears. So badly.
What if they see? What if their greedy eyes roam over your skin, made for him and him only. What if they land on the pearly drops that dangle from your skin and decide to end it all? He canât have that happen.Â
That messy, dirty world of bloodâred paints and stained canvases is not something you should have to live in.
You should be swaddled in every silk he can affordâlayered, soft, untouched by the things heâs seen. His art belongs on a canvas that is the bloodstained earth, not you.
And yet.
His paint would still find your skinânot in pigment, but in spit and blooming marks, pressed slow and reverent, like vows made with teeth and breath. Your bond pulsing beneath his collarbone, pressed against the steady beat of his heart.
You slumber so peacefully beside him. Your body instinctively rolls towards him, fingers twitching lightly as the sound of the door opening and closing. A soft sound escapes your throat and he resists the urge to coo at the vulnerable display.
Maybe he should paint this soon.Â
But how would he excuse himself for staying up at this time? Youâd scold him and be so worried, asking about where he was so late at night.
He knows youâre watching, especially in the way his shirt dips down to reveal his chest, his forearms when he rolls his sleeves up, and the gentle profile of his face. But it isnât desire that lingers there.
Itâs concern.
Heâs been quieter lately. He knows that.
Itâs a habit of his.
If he were a woman, the mood swings that come with ebb day might be forgiven, folded neatly beneath the excuse of a mortal cycle. But he isnât. There is no language for what he is when the tide turns inward.
He canât help itâhe needs to be close to you. So, so close.
But he doesnât want to frighten you away. Heâd already done that once, last year, with overheated skin and strange, emerging scales. He barely held back from pouncing upon you.
He even told you to leave.
And still, you didnât judge.
You stayed. You let him have youâjust a few touches, fleeting and carefulâbut it was enough. It had to be.
(Though now, he wants more.)
He feels impossibly lucky to have you. And sometimes, that luck aches.
Lying would be easy if it were anyone else.
But itâs his beautiful bride, fingers curled around his hand even in sleep. The one who accepted him in all his wrongness, who carries such a gentle, defiant flame within her.
He almost feels guilty for intruding on your space.
Almost being the important word.
The organ tucked in his ribs flutters as his gaze drifts to your neckâthe monster of the deep purring softly at the sight of his pearls resting there.
Maybe this is the only way he can bear to look at them.
His emotionsâlove, pain, angerâsettle against your skin as if they belong there.
As if they always have.
Those pesky collectors⌠Thinking they could snatch his beloved bride away from him. It just makes his blood boil. Heâd be much more rational if Ebb Day wasnât around the corner, but now? With his hormones so high and his bride so close? God the blood on his dagger never seems to run away.Â
His fingers caress your cheek, lips lowering to press against your temple.Â
It's reverent, as if you were the god and him the worshipper. Then your eyes open, and he gets a glimpse of the pigment he tries so hard to replicate. The glassy sheen of your eyes has him on the brink of letting go, kissing the corners of your eyes as heâ He stops himself there. âJust the hormonesâ he reminds himself. (But will the hormones explain the beast below?)
A soft groan from you makes him pause, quickly leaning down to lull you. âRafayel?âÂ
Your fingers tighten around his, calloused, but infinitely more beautiful than his to him. âShhh, go to sleep.â He murmurs, a cadence reminiscent of the tides. He canât have you awake just yet. Thereâs still a life form he has to dispose of, lingering outside his home. He shouldâve known that pesky collector wouldâve sent more than just one. Thankfully, you donât put up a fight, too sleepy to genuinely understand the gravity of the situation. The corners of his mouth lift, the sunset hue of his eyes softening in love as he chuckles. A kiss to your forehead. âIâll be back soon.â He says.Â
You hum, nestling into the warmth of his body, he stays just for a little longer, hands carding through your hair, before getting up to leave.
No one hears the screams. â--
Sunlight leaks through the curtains, warm and gentleâlike one of the kisses Rafayel gives you.
You donât wake to seagulls squawking your ears off, miraculously. Thank god for your eardrums.
But something still feels wrong.
Consciousness comes slowly, like surf dragging you back to shore. Your limbs are heavy, sleep clinging where it shouldnât. Something presses in your chestâdull, insistent.
You werenât this tired last night.
You groan as you roll over, instinctively curling toward the solid warmth beside you. Your arms latch on, cheek pressing into a firm chest.
It chuckles.
Soft. Familiar. Soothingâ
Wait.
Chuckles?
Your body jolts awake all at once. You flinch as arms tighten around you, heat bleeding through thin pajamas like itâs been waiting there all along.
âWhatttt,â the voice hums, thick with mock offense, âIâm not allowed to hug my muse anymore?â
Thereâs something wrong with itâ
âCutie?â itâ No.
He murmurs.
immediately, you look upâstraight into a familiar pair of violet eyes.
Rafayelâs eyebrow is raised, and itâs honestly unfair how stupidly good he looks in this lighting.
like a marble statue carved by loving hands.Â
(maybe it was your hands that hollowed out his heart)
Truly, whoever created him loved him very much.
He hums, then flicks your forehead.
âI know Iâm stunning,â he says, pouting, cheeks puffing in a way that makes your fingers itch, âbut donât you think itâs rude not to answer me?â
The urge to squeeze his face hits you hard and suddenâ-like heâs a child who just got ambushed by their grandmother.
And unfortunately for him, impulse is something youâre still working on. âHm? Cutie, what are youââ
He lets out an undignified squealâsomething youâll definitely tease him about later. For now, though, your priorities lie in the soft, delicate flesh covering his sharp cheekbones, fuller than the last time you saw him this close.
A part of you murmurs in contentment, knowing heâs better than before.
That you changed him.
You donât notice the way his eyes soften in quiet satisfactionâalmost pleased that his bride takes such obvious delight in his form, in the way she studies him.
Thatâs all a Lemurian wants.
Thereâs a reason the males bear more extravagant shapes: sinewy muscle beneath shimmering scales, bodies built to move, to draw the eye. Dances etched into instinct, hips rolling, tail fins catching the lightânearly translucent.
Even after years reunited with his true formâHat Island asideâhe canât deny the way his soul hums at your pleasure.
âŚThough his cheeks are starting to ache now.
âCutieâmph! Let me go! My cheeks are under assault!â he whines, hands weakly grasping yours.
You giggle, amused by his plight. His fingers flex against your skin and he groans, blankets tangled at your waist, around him, everywhereâevidence of a restless night.
Then his hands go limp.
Rafayel freezes, eyes blown wide.Â
âRafayel?â you murmur, fingers loosening.
For a heartbeat, itâs quiet enough that you think youâve hurt him.
When you shift, starting to lift your weight from his waist, his hand darts down, trapping your hip. Fingers mold to your flesh like they belong there.
âDonât move,â he saysâthen, softer,
âplease.â
Confused, you obey, settling back against him. His gaze goes distant, glazed, and only now are you allowed the luxury of really looking at him.
No darkness. No curtain of hair.
His strands are swept back, sunlight kissing him firstâlike it paid to be here. The light falls too perfectly along the curve of his jaw, bands of gold stretching over sunset eyes.
Little do you know, he thinks the same.
Except his fingers itch to paint again, ebb day hovering just beyond the horizon. They ache to render you in reds and glimmering skin, in white and something irrevocably his.
His fingers slowly massage the meat of your thighs, pressure alternating between his thumb and the rest of his fingers.
He holds himself back.
Can he guarantee your safety?
The conditions are more favorable nowâa mate who is⌠willing. Who knows his cycles. Who is undeniably drawn to him.
Who could take all ofâ
But would you want it?
His hands roam without permission from his mind. Your breath hitches as they slide upwardâ
Then stop.
They linger at your ribs, just shy of cupping the swell of your breasts.
âRafayel?â you whisper again.
But this time, the word isnât laced with concernâitâs soft. Hushed. Meant for his ears alone.
The throbbing between your legs pulses.
A myriad of emotions flicker across his eyes, and for the first time, you mourn the limits of your resonanceâyour inability to read the currents of his thoughts.
You grieve the universe most when he shifts, gently guiding you off him.
âYouâre heavy, cutieeee! Iâm far too frail for this,â he groans, turning dramatically. One hand presses to the back of his forehead, as if heâs been grievously wounded.
Does he not want to?
âOugh⌠it seems I canât workââ he starts.
Never mind.
âRafayel!â You smack his chest lightly. He gasps, clutching at the imaginary injury, eyes wide with offense.
âMy bride hates meâŚâ he sniffs, turning away as he slides out of bed. âI must atone withââ
A dramatic pause.
He glances back, pout firmly in place, mock tears clinging to his lashes.
âI must atone with breakfast in bed!â
You scoff, but thereâs no bite behind it. For a moment, he turnsâyou think itâs because he believes youâre offended. Maybe disappointed.
So you smile and swat at his back.
âCome on⌠Iâm hungryyyy!â You cling to the planes of his back, fingers sneaking in to tickle his ribs. He chokes on a laugh, squirming.
âPearlie! Get offâI canât make breakfast for you if you cling to me like a needy octopus!â
His long fingers gently pry yours loose. With the other hand, he tugs the blanket up and tucks you in snugly.
âMwah.â
His lips press to yoursâslow, coaxing.
âIâll be back soon, mkay, cutie?â he says, smiling, fingers ghosting over your cheek.
You nod.
But the throbbing doesnât fade, heat settling low in your stomach, patient and unresolved.
But itâs okay, you can wait.Â
â-
As soon as he exits the room, he collapses against the wall, breath heaving. God, you donât know what you do to him.Â
His hands tremble, and the beast inside his soul screams at him to charge straight back into the room. Love you properly, not leave you wet and needy with your arousal soaking through the fabric of your shorts. âWhy did you do that?â It hisses.
Ebb day is close. Just a few days away.
He knows, in the way the scales on his lower body flex. In the way the heads of his shafts poke through the opening where his thighs and hips intersect. Not yet. He has to wait. He doesnât want to hurt you, he doesnât want to force you into something you don't want. You donât know what heâd do to you if you said yes. He drags his hand down his face, hips twitching at the smell of you. The mere image of you tucked into bed, swaddled in his blankets, his scent, and his clothes is enough to send his pheromones crazy. âGet it together.â
His fingers twitch.Â
His mate is hungry, and if he wants to please her properly he needs to show heâs adequate enough to provide for her. Not in just luxury, but in the event all he has left is the sea, he can love her just the same. His soul settles at that, seeming to be content with that reasoning. This was going to be a long day.
â-
Tears are falling endlessly. They dropÂ
dropÂ
dropÂ
dropÂ
scatter all around. Even when the morning comes. They flow
Flow
Flow
Flow
Until my room is flooded whole. â
âYou like it cutie?â You swear, If Rafayel werenât a lemurian heâd be a dog with a wagging tail. His eyes watch you intently, pressure and anticipation laden in two colors as you take a tentative bite of the pancakes he made from scratch. The smell was mouthwatering, stirring you from your state of drowsiness in mere seconds when he barged into his room with a loud declaration. A burst of flavor and fruitiness tickles your tongue, and you donât miss the way Rafayelâs eyes widen in delight when you nod eagerly. The batter is light and fluffy, warm and encompassing as he quickly feeds you another piece. This man was gonna get you fat with the rate of food heâs giving you- But you certainly arenât complaining, no!Â
His fingers smooth over your lips once again, napkin pinched between them. The touch is careful, almost reverent, as if heâs afraid of smudging something fragile. His expression is softâcontent in a way that knots low in your stomach, makes it twist pleasantly and wrong all at once.
Youâve been together for so long, yet that look still unsettles you. Not because itâs unfamiliarâbut because itâs too focused.Â
Too quiet.Â
like heâs memorizing you.
His fingers linger on your thigh, massaging slow, absentminded circles. Itâs a rhythm you know well, one that usually fades into the background of shared space and shared time. Today, it doesnât. Today it feels deliberate. Weighted.
like star-crossed lovers finally allowed to touch.
The thought startles you.Â
You push it away, ducking your head to focus on the pancakes and strawberries instead. Sweet, warm, grounding. You eat more than you meant to, and the pleased little sound Rafayel makes in response sends another strange flutter through you.Â
When youâre finally full, heavy with comfort, he guides you back into the bed as if itâs the most natural thing in the world. Something heâs practiced over centuries.
(perhaps he has once in a lifetime.)
His hand settles over your stomach, palm warm through the thin fabric of your shirt. His gaze driftsâyour face, your mouth, the sliver of skin your collar revealsâthen back again, restless. Searching.
You feel exposed. Not undressed, but seen. Laid open in a way you havenât been in years.
Is this how an artist looks at something they love?
You donât know.
So you stay still. Let the moment stretch. Your fingers remain laced with his as the hour slips by unnoticed. At some point, your eyes grow heavy, contentment weighing them closed. He slides a pillow beneath your neck, adjusts it until you make a soft sound of approval.
Silence gathers easily after that. Comfortable. Thick. His fingers drift from your hand to your cheek, tracing the curve there, punctuated by the occasional kiss pressed to your skin. The world blurs, edges softening as you hover between waking and sleep, wrapped in warmth and quiet.
Thenâ
âWould you accept all of me?â
Your eyes snap open, heart slamming hard against your ribs.
âWhat?â
The word stumbles out of you, clumsy and breathless. Heat rushes to your cheeks as you shift, suddenly too aware of how close he is. Your fingers tighten around his hand without meaning to.
His grip tightens in return.
Just for a moment.
like heâs afraid you might pull away.
You donât know it, but he needs to hear the words from your mouth.
It isnât a want. Itâs a pull from the deepâold as tide and trench, insistent as breath.
He has cared for you. Fed you. Sheltered you. Kept you safe.
He knows that isnât how it works in human culture. So he has learned their way, too. Given you his time. His devotion. Seaside dinners where the salt clings to your skin, quiet hours spent painting side by side. Gifts shaped from his tears, wrapped carefully in the finest paper he can findâhandled as if they might break.
You were so receptive to his care, tooâmaking those warm hums and contented sounds, the kind he could turn into melodies and listen to forever.
It would be even better if he could hear them underwater.
His knuckles traced soothing circles over yours, patient, waiting.
Thereâs something different about him today, something only you seem able to reach.
The bright blue of his eyes swallows all other colors, leaving a hazy, unfocused look. His lips tilt downânot quite a frown, more like a question, a quiet plea for something to soothe the turmoil beneath the surface.
Whatever it is, you sense heâs slowly letting you in.
Your hand drifts along his arm, rising to cup his cheek. Your thumb brushes over the swell of his cheekbone, gentle and deliberate.
âIâve already accepted you. I did the moment you fell on me.â
The words were meant as a joke, a soft light against the weight between you. But they slip out in a whisper, almost reverent, as if they needed to be said even against your intent.
âDid you?â he asks.
You nod, almost breathless.
He blinks slowly, the sharp intensity in his eyes softening into something almost fragile, yet deeply satisfiedâlike a god finally holding what was once untouchable. Thereâs a stillness about him now, a quiet surrender that makes your chest tighten in a way you hadnât expected.
His hand slides from your cheek to cup your own, and you feel the warmth radiating from him. He turns his face toward your palm, pressing the plush curve of his lips gently against your skin. Slow, deliberate pressure moves across your knuckles, over your fingers, resting in the center of your hand. Itâs tender, reverent, and entirely unhurried.
You flush at the intimacy of it. Thereâs nothing overtly arousing in his touchânothing calculatedâbut it makes butterflies rise in your stomach, flitting against your ribs with an almost mischievous persistence. Your hand trembles slightly, caught between wanting to pull away and wanting to stay exactly where you are.
He keeps his eyes on yours, quiet and steady, and the intensity returns in a softer form, a warmth that seeps into your chest. You can feel the pulse of him through your palm, slow and steady, like heâs anchoring himself to you as much as you are to him.
His thumb brushes over the back of your hand, back and forth in a rhythm that feels deliberate yet unspoken, a quiet conversation without words. You lean closer without thinking, your foreheads nearly touching, drawn in by the gravity of him. The world beyond this small circle of warmth disappears; all that exists is the press of his hand in yours, the softness of his lips against your skin, and the fragile bond threading between you.
âIâve got you,â he murmurs, almost inaudible. His voice is low, intimate, a secret heâs letting you in on. âIâve got you.â
What, you donât know. But itâs. Assuring.
It seems like instinct to him, something to soothe both the lemurian inside of him and your soul that seems to vibrate at his closeness. So you let him.Â
You let him cradle your palm, your wrist, your cheek.Â
He doesnât know it yet.Â
But he has everything.
_â- âCutieeee! You canât goooooo!â
You drag your feet, groaningâ
Not out of your own will, though.
Because what else can you do when a sixâfoot man is clinging to your ankles like an otter with seaweed?
You sigh, tipping your head back to look at him. Rafayel peers up at you with wide, imploring eyes, lashes unfairly long. His fingers look delicate wrapped around your legs, but the calloused skin of his hands tells a different storyâone earned through work, through tides, through time.
And somehow, that contrast makes your chest ache just a little.
You sigh, glancing up at the clock mounted on the wall. Time is slipping through your fingers, and Rafayel is still clinging to your thighs like youâre the only thing anchoring him to this world.
(Perhaps you are.)
âCutie, you canât go!â
His grip tightens. The weight on your leg grows heavier, and you nearly stumble when he hooks his legs around your ankle, knees buckling under the sudden pull.
âRafayel!â you groan. This is far too much for a Monday morning.
âIf you need money, I can provide for you,â you say, pausing as you look down at him.
âThatâs notââ
The words die in your throat when your eyes finally meet his.
He looks like heâs on the verge of tears.
A wet, shimmery gloss clings to his lashes, his mouth pressed into a thin, trembling line. His hair is mussed, as if heâs only just rolled out of bedâsoft, undone, painfully human.
You realize then that work isnât about money.
It isnât about obligation, either.
Itâs because if you stay any longer, you might never want to leave.
Because his gaze drags you under, pulling you into the depths of whatever Rafayel truly isâ
a siren of the sea.
âPlease, justââ
He cuts himself off.
Then, suddenly, he lets go.
The release is sharp, jarringâa cruel contrast to how tightly heâd been holding on. Your heart sinks as he turns away, shoulders drawn in, as if bracing himself for something thatâs already hurting.
But he doesnât leave.
Instead, he straightens and steps back into you, arms sliding around your waist. He leans his weight into your body, forehead resting against your shoulder, like the space between you is unbearable even for a second.
(It is)
âJust⌠come back, okay?â he murmurs, nuzzling into the side of your neck.Â
The words are soft, almost fragile.
You huff a quiet breath, fingers brushing through his hair.
âSilly fishie,â you tease gently. âWhen do I ever not come back?â
He pulls back just enough to look at you.
The glare he gives you isnât sharp.
itâs wounded. Unconvinced.
(Maybe itâs because all those years ago you did break a promise to him.)
Silence settles between you, thick and awkward, but Rafayel doesnât let go. If anything, his grip tightens, fingers curling into your clothes like you might disappear if he loosens them.
âPromise me.â
And this time, you donât deflect. You donât joke.
You meet his eyes and let the weight of it settle in your chest.
âI will.â
He holds you for a moment longer, reluctant, before his fingers begin to trace slow paths down your spine. The motion is gentle, repetitiveâless for you, more for himself.
A way to remind his body that youâre still here.
The movement draws you closer, pressed flush against his chest.
A soft, reverent sound slips from his throatâlow and pleased.
Fulfilling.
Soothing.
A kiss follows, warm and lingering against the side of your neck, before his arms finally loosenâjust enough to let you breathe, never enough to truly let you go.
âCome back to me.â
It isnât a suggestion.
Itâs spoken quietly, with restraint pulled tight around something far older and more instinctive. A promise layered beneath the command.
Itâs a demand from your god.
âââ
âAccording to our latest intelligence, the protocores are believed to be secured inside this warehouse, deep within the No-Hunt Zone.â
Jenna pauses, her gaze sweeping the room. When it lands on you, she hesitatesâjust a fractionâbefore continuing.
âI wonât sugarcoat this. The conditions are hostile, and the location is unsuitable for rookies.â A measured breath. âHowever, we are operating under a personnel shortage.â
She places a hand over her heart, posture straightening, voice firm.
Unease blankets the room, low murmurs gathering like mist. People shift from side to side, clearly uncomfortable. It was one thing to have an isolated warehouse. Itâs another entirely for it to be in the No-Hunt zone.
It also sucks because Xavier, of all people, is out on a business trip across seas, leaving you all with some⌠very questionable matches for partners.
Jenna waves her hand, and the room settles down once more.
âThis mission is voluntary. If you wish to request reassignment, state it now. Otherwise, we proceed with those prepared to accept the risk.â
The rest of the briefing fades into a dull hum, words sliding past you without meaning.
Something tugs at your chest again.
Not painânever painâbut a dense, insistent pull, as if something far beneath the surface is calling your name. Slow. Heavy. Inescapable.
You swallow.
What is wrong with you today? Something deep within you begs to return to the seaâto sink into the warmth of it, the heavy, living wetness of the tides.
You canât go, it pleads.
But you have to.
People are counting on you.
If those protocores were releasedâif they were twisted into weaponsâthe damage would ripple outward, leaving scars across all of Linkon.
(And if they were ever used near Rafayel?)
The thought strikes like a match to oil.
Heat floods your chest, sharp and sudden, burning away the doubt. The pull of the sea recoils beneath something fiercerâprotective. Ruthless.
No.
You wonât allow it.
You canât allow it.Â
ââNow then, if you wish to request reassignment, proceed to the left.â
The room shifts.
What had once been a crowd thins quickly, bodies peeling away toward the rightâtoward the safety of sunlight and city streets.Â
Toward warmth that doesnât demand anything in return.
You canât fault them.
Jenna watches the numbers dwindle, her expression darkening. Worry lines her brow, concern settling deep in her eyesâbut she says nothing. Thereâs no time to acknowledge whatâs already been decided.
Itâs too late for that now.
Her gaze returns to you, steady and searching.
âAre you certain youâre willing to participate?â
You nod. âIâll do my best captain.â That cracks a smile out of her. âYou always do your best, even despite the setbacks.â â- CRACK!
The paint can slips from numb fingers and shatters against the floor, rattling once before rolling away. Pearly pigment bleeds across the wooden panels, seeping into the grain like something spilled and alive.
Thomas would kill him for that later, he thinks. Something about how expensive the floors are and how weird his paints and the materials- (Little does Thomas know those pearls are his own.)
Rafayel barely notices.
His body twists as if his skin no longer fits rightâlike itâs shrunk, tightened, turned against him. Heat coils beneath his ribs, crawling up his spine, flooding his chest until breathing feels wrong.
Shit. He- he should have more time-
But he doesn't
.
Too hot.
Tooâ
Whereâ
His thoughts scatter, breaking apart before they can form. The air feels thin. Dry. Wrong. Every instinct screams for salt, for pressure, for the steady presence that should be hereâ
You.
His fingers flex, trembling, nails scraping against the table as another wave hits. Itâs not pain, not exactly. Itâs needâdense and consuming, thrumming through his blood like the white cascades of a river.
This day always comes.
The sea inside him swells, pheromones flooding his senses, demanding closeness, demanding his brideâ
his anchorâ
his home.
And you arenât anywhere.
A wounded sound echoes from his chest, his knees hitting the floor. The room reeks of you, your shirt draped over the arm of his couch. Itâs perfect- Itâs torture. Because you aren't here.
He presses a hand to his chest, right over where the pull aches worst.
Gone.
Too far.
The bond strains, stretching thin, and instinct claws at him to follow. To cross land and street and city and drag you back to the water where you belong with him.
Rafayel squeezes his eyes shut, breath shuddering.
Come back, something ancient snarls inside him.
Come back to the sea.
The paint continues to spread across the floor, luminous and uncheckedâjust like the tide inside him, rising with no one there to soothe it.
Where is she? He chokes, the sound sharp and broken, and before he can talk himself out of it, his hand darts forward. Fingers curl tight around the abandoned fabric of your shirt, crushing it in his grip as he drags it up to his face.
The moment he inhales, his breath stutters.
The scent hits his glands like a waveâwarm, familiar, unmistakably you.
Salt and skin and something softer beneath it.
something that tells his body safe, mine, home.
His knees nearly give out. (Havenât they already?)
A low, helpless sound slips from his throat as his grip tightens, knuckles whitening. He presses the fabric harder against his nose, breathing in again, deeper this time, as if he can pull you out of the air itself.
For a heartbeat, the heat eases.
Just a little.
The swell and ache of his glands unmarked, the shifting of his scales underneath his clothes, and the slick that drips from his innards.
Enough to make the absence hurt worse.
His chest heaves, eyes squeezing shut as instinct screams at him to follow the trail, to find you, to drag you back to the sea where he can wrap himself around you and breathe again.
Heâd croon and trill around you. Bring all those pretty gifts you eye at those stores at Whitesand Bay. Wrap his tail in circles around your legs and keep you close and sated and warm and full-
âStupid,â he mutters hoarsely, voice wrecked, though he doesnât let go.
He canât.
Because if he starts, then heâll never stop.
So he sits there on the floor, writing.Â
HIs body aches, already priming itself for you. Heâll just have to wait.
And ignore your own soul, tugging desperately at his own.
â
âYour safety comes first,â Jenna begins, her voice cutting through the low murmur of the small group. âThat is non-negotiable. Itâll be a bonus if you destroy the protocore, but under no circumstances do you put yourselfâor your partnerâabove your own survival. If anything goes wrong, your extraction is priority one.â
You shiver, but you canât afford to back out now.Â
Your hands instinctively press to the pearls that sit snug on your ears, a gift Rafayel had given you weeks ago.Â
People are counting on you.
She steps closer, scanning each hunter with a measured, commanding gaze. âWe are not here for heroics. We are here for precision, for control. Do not improvise without assessment. Do not chase after every signal or anomaly you encounter. The No-Hunt Zone is unforgiving.â
The woods whistle, leaves bending as the breeze caresses your cheek. It smells of salt and sea. But that canât be right? The ocean is over 50 kilometers away?
Something inside you tugs once more. A string of doubt you snap in moments.
Her fingers tap the gear strapped across her waistâpouches, knives, communication devices, and tracer units.Â
âKnow your tools. Every item here exists for a reason. Harness them. If youâre unsure how to use something, ask. Now. Not when your life depends on it.â
Jenna paces slowly, eyes sharp, voice steady.Â
âTeamwork is mandatory. Stick to your assigned partner. Signal constantly. One lost teammate compromises the entire operation. Do not break formation, do not separate, and above allâdo not ignore the evacuation route. Itâs marked, memorized, and rehearsed. Use it if needed. No hesitation. No exceptions.â
She stops, letting her gaze rest on each of you in turn.
âSituational awareness is not optional. Monitor your surroundings, note patterns, identify threats, and report anomalies immediately. Your environment can change in an instant. Your decisions in those moments will determine not just your fate, but the outcome of the mission.â
Her tone softensâbriefly, only for a secondâ
but it carries weight.
âI know some of you are rookies, and this is intimidating. It should be. Thatâs why preparation matters. Thatâs why discipline matters. Thatâs why you follow orders.â
She straightens, posture rigid, hands resting lightly on her belt. âGear checked, partners briefed, extraction plan memorized?â
People nod, murmurs echoing around the concrete platform.
âGood. Then move forward with confidence, but remember: survival first. Mission second.â
The weight of her words hangs in the air, mingling with the heaviness of the gear strapped across your waist. You feel itânot just physical, but the invisible gravity of responsibility, of choice, of the dangers waiting just beyond the No-Hunt Zone.
ââ
Thereâs no one here.
Thatâs what the space tells you, anyway.
The corridor stretches long and bare, concrete walls swallowing light, the air stale and unmoving. Your footsteps echo too loudly, each one bouncing back at you with a hollow, eerie reverb.
Someone shifts beside you.
Too close.
Viperâyour assigned partnerâmoves in until his shoulder nearly brushes yours. The proximity sends a prickle down your spine, instinctive and sharp. He huddles near, not for warmth, not for comfort, but with the coiled stillness of something. Something trained.
Your skin crawls.
He shouldnât be this close.
Thereâs already someone waiting for you. Someone warm and vast and patient, tied to tides and promises. Heâs at home. Waiting. You have to go backâyou will go back, you have toâ
âPay attention.â
The words slither into your ear like how a snake strangled prey.
You jolt, fingers tightening around your gun as your breath catches. Your wrist doesnât flareâno alarm, no warningâyour hunterâs watch continues its steady, indifferent rhythm.
The voice is low. Cold. A hiss pressed right against you.
Your spine snaps straight as you whirl toward him.
Viper stands at your side as if heâs always been there, posture loose, unreadable. His knives rest neatly at his belt, untouched. Green eyes glint from beneath his hood, reflective in the dim lightâsharp, observant, unsettlingly calm.
You falter and he merely raises an eyebrow. Youâve never seen him around the association before. You think you would notice if a man with dark green hair lingered around desks and gathered at mission briefings. Maybe youâve been too focused.
For a moment, thereâs only the hollow sound of boots against concrete, the echo stretching and stretching down abandoned halls.
His eyes twitch, and you quickly turn on your heel, stalking down the empty corridor at the same, cautious pace you both adopted before.
You almost convince yourself he never spoke.
Almost.
Then you slowâjust for a secondâand his gaze snaps to you, fierce and irritated, something tight and impatient flickering behind his eyes.
Annoyance.
Noâworse.
As if your hesitation offends him.
You swallow and force your pace steady again, the air feeling thinner with every step.
Would he understand, you wonder dimly, if you told him?
That someone is waiting.
That the sea is closeâso close it presses against the inside of your chest, threatening to pull you under the moment you stop moving.
You donât say anything.
Neither does Viper.
But you can feel him watching you, every movement measured, as if heâs cataloguing you piece by pieceâwaiting for something to slip.
And in the empty hallway, with nothing but echoes for company, the silence feels less like safety. The steady hum of machines fills the darkness, a low, mechanical drone that settles into your bones. Itâs everywhereâbehind the walls, beneath the floor, threaded through the air like a second pulse. Moonlight filters in through fractured vents and crumbling concrete, pale and distant, illuminating dust that hangs motionless.
Nothing crashes through the silence.
Nothing moves.
And that somehow makes it worse.
You feel overwrought, stretched thin like a string pulled in too many directions at once. Every sense feels tuned too tightly, ready to snap. The air itself presses against your skin, heavy with anticipation.
âThe world is silent, and youâre surprised no wanderers have crashed in through the roof yet. This is the No-Hunt zone after all.
Viper walks too close.
The sound of his breathingâcontrolled, measuredâsets your nerves on edge. Your legs itch with the urge to bolt, muscles coiled and ready, while your fingers hover near the trigger, prepared to react before your mind can catch up.
Nervous, you realize distantly.
It surprises you.
Youâve fought wanderers twice your sizeâgrotesque things that fall screaming from the sky. Youâve stared down death with a weapon in your hands and pulled the trigger without hesitation.
And yet now, in a quiet hallway, your hands tremble.
Still human.
Because despite everythingâtraining, violence, survivalâthere is still something waiting for you.
Someone.
Something warm that held you close this morning, clung to you like the tide refusing to recede, like letting go was an act of will.
(You canât break his promise. Not now.)
(You have to return.)
The thought doesnât feel like something you chose.
Still, you force yourself to listen.
Your breathing slows as you strain past the mechanical hum, ears searching for what doesnât belong. The rhythm of the machines lulls you into a strange haze, steady and almost hypnotic, familiar enough to blur the edges of your awareness.
Thenâ
He stops.
âSsstop.â
The word slices clean through the hum.
Boots scrape against concrete as you halt, the sudden stillness ringing louder than movement ever did. You turn toward him, pulse kicking hard in your throat.
Your gun raises, aimed behind him, but thereâs nothing back there but darkness.
Viperâs eyes are fixed on you, unflinching.
Yellow. Bright. Reflective in the dim light, catching and holding.
Not scanning the hall. Not checking the corners.
Watching you.
âIs there⌠something wrong?â you ask.
Your voice sounds smaller than you intend. Hesitant.Â
You realize your grip on the gun has loosened, the barrel dipping slightly as uncertainty creeps in. It lowers until itâs level with your thigh, your spine straightening.
Did he hear something?
Or did you miss it?
His gaze flickers to your sideâjust for a secondâthen returns to your face, sharp and unreadable.
âI heard ssssomething,â he says. His words are drawled out, faintly like a snake's.
Is he⌠going to elaborate on that??
The machines continue to hum.
The silence drags.
It stretches until it feels elastic, pulled taut between you and him, ready to snap at the slightest movement. The tension builds in slow, awful increments, and youâre half convinced heâll lunge at you without warningâ
âor turn and disappear down the corridor, leaving you alone with whatever this place is cursed with.Â
Your heart hums. A steady beat that seems to never go away. As if pleading for you to not go. But you ignore it. Itâs too far to go back now.Â
âAre we⌠going to go?â you ask at last.
Your voice sounds strange in the stillness, too loud, too fragile.
Viper tilts his head.
The motion is deliberate. Curious. Unhurried.
âYou firsssst.â
The word coils as it leaves his mouth, elongated, sibilant. Not a command exactlyâbut not a suggestion, either.
You hesitate.
Why you?
Your eyes flick over him, searching for somethingâintent, impatience, threatâbut find nothing readable.Â
Just blank, silent eyes.Â
So your gaze drifts past him instead, down the corridor, where shadow pools thickly against the walls.
Thatâs when you see it.
A door.
The handle is nearly swallowed by thick green vines, thorns blooming along their lengths like theyâve been growing there for years.Â
Too lush.Â
Too alive for a place this dead. Rafayel always said that living things growing in dead places carried unease.
He used it in his paintingsâthe way color felt wrong against rot, the way life shouldnât bloom where it didnât belong. Heâd point it out with quiet reverence, draped over your shoulder, his chin resting there as if the world was something the two of you were meant to observe together.
âSee?â heâd murmur, voice warm in your ear. âThatâs how you know somethingâs listening.â
You think of him now as your gaze catches on the door.
Vines coil thick around the handle, thorns blooming where the concrete has long since given up. Green too vivid. Too intentional. Life pressing its way into a place that should have stayed empty.
Unease settles low in your chest.
You frown.
Youâre sure it wasnât there before.
Your head feels heavy all of a sudden, a dull pressure settling behind your eyes. The thought drifts in lazily, unbothered by alarm.
Maybe itâs just nerves.
Youâve always been like this before missions. Jittery. On edge. You remember feeling the same way working alongside Xavierâtoo aware of every sound, every shadow.
This is normal.
You inhale slowly and move forward.
Each step is careful, measured. Your body lowers instinctively, shoulders tight, muscles coiled. You feel like a predator stalking through tall grassâevery sense sharpened, every movement restrained.
The knife slides free from its sheath with a soft whisper.
You press the blade to the vines and begin to cut.
Slowly.
Green fibers part with quiet resistance, sap glistening faintly in the low light. Seconds stretch into minutes you canât afford to lose. Every heartbeat feels loud, exposed.
You need those protocores gone.
You have toâ
BAM!
The door bursts open beneath a sharp kick from your heel.
The sound cracks through the hallway, violent and sudden, echoing endlessly off concrete walls.
Dust settles, the room untouched for years. BUt there are footprints here, recently disturbed. Boxes of protocores stacked. Youâve found your objective. Itâs there in front of you.Â
âQuickly, get the boxes.â You look around, and you hear the steady thrum of your hunterâs watch get louder and louder. All this energy gathering in one place⌠it could cause so many problems. Thankfully, Viper obliges, taking a large crate and dragging it out of the room.
But your heart slams against your ribs.
A rabbit.
A rabbit trapped in your chest.
Little rabbit feet kicking.
Running.
Beating.
Straight toward the tall grass.
It hides away. Until the snake strangles them. Hidden in the grasses they called home.
â- It smells of blood. Reeks of blood. Almost immediately your throat wants to lurch upon you, your stomach writhing from the overpowering scent of Iron. Just what happened? Your head feels like it just got run over by a train. A big, fat metal hunk of what humanity calls âA revolutionary device.â Marbles seem to clink around in your brain, rippling and dashing around like crazed chickens without heads. You try to move your limbs, but they donât respond. No. More like they canât respond. The world comes around in sections. First your hands, a numb pringling feeling zinging up and down your muscles. like they fell asleep and finally decided to wake up. Itâs like trying to get an elephant to move when you try to lift it. Coincidentally your other arm pangs. like thereâs something tugging on it. Huh? You struggle again, head lolling uselessly to the side. like one of those springy figurines you and Caleb used to play with when you were younger. Sprong. Your eyes haze over, the blur too much to handle. So you close your eyes again. Dream of lollipops. Lollipops? You crack your eyelids open just the slightest bit. To your delight, your vision clears just the slightest. Or was it still the same? Without your permission, a groan rolls from your mouth. Heavy, and long. like a rope dangling from a cliff and unfurling. âSheâs awake.â Who is she? Your neck begins to ache, the weight of your head pulling it down as you attempt to right itself. Was it always this heavy? Your heart beats lazily, pumping. It beats. A loud, scattered sound screeches through the room. âFor a moment I thought he killed her!â
A laugh. A loud, screechy sound that makes you want to vomit at whoeverâs polished shoes lay in front of your sight. Suddenly your neck aches further. It stretches. A jelly, you think. Then it catches your eye. A figure haunts the distance. No, not a figure. Bones. A skeleton with fins, a tail longer than torso and a skull who reaches for nothing.Sentience only seems to hit you then. A slow aching thing that shrinks your eyesight. A blur that never seems to go away. The rabbit returns. Beating. Running.Â
Fearing. Squish. âYou see your comrade?" Suddenly your neck is yanked in a different direction, pins and bottle scribbling up your mind like a pen. A pen that flies and- A man. A man with greasy oily hair, a suit that looks too crooked, and breath that smells. Gosh do people not know of hygiene? Hello? This is just sad I mean didnât his mother have at least one standard of-
âIâll be rich.â He murmurs. It's only then do your eyes clear properly. Itâs scattered. Memories breaking then reforming. The mission. The vines.
The protocores. Itâs only then do you realize the gravity of the situation. âHold on, waiââ Your words slur together, useless. You think them clearly enough, but your mouth doesnât follow. Your body lags behind your mind by leagues.
No. Oceans. Oceans. Rafayel. No you promised- Mistake? âIâve finally gotten my hands on a LemurianâŚâ A maniac laughter fills the room, the sound heavy and earsplitting. Nothing like the light echoey laughter of your beloved. Of that stupid fish oh god where he is Rafayel where? Then the manâs hand tightens and dull pain blooms on the bones of your jaw, your teeth clenching at the harsh grip. âI- I think youâre mistaken.â Finally, Youâre tongue isnât a useless worm taking up space rent free in your mouth- Feeling slowly bleeds in, like oil through water. Speaking of oil spills you should really finish that project from fifth grade- Your thoughts scatter like birds. Heâs giving you a stare What the stare means you donât know but it certainly doesnât mean anything goodâ Oh shit. Your head lolls again, wrinkly fingers retreating from yourâ ew those were on you? âOH really? Then what are these?â What are what?-- Suddenly your heart goes cold. The pearls. Your earrings. They rest snuggly against your ears, like those sea anemones on crabs. like Rafayelâs palm in yours, his finger sinking the gaps between yours and interlocking. Cold, oily skin touches the lobe of your ear. âYou know, Iâve been looking for a while for you.â What? âEveryoneâs been going crazy about Lemurian tears. I guess the rumors are true.â A loud cackle.Â
Seriously how much is this guy going to laughâ A shiver races down your spine. Your mind is awake now. âI-I'm not a Lemurian-â you try to argue. It's futile. Once greed takes hold of someone, every delusion becomes reality. Are you going to be stuck here? Forever? Will you never see the sun again?Â
Will you never see Rafayel again? Â
Should you have listened to him when he clung?
 Should you have stayed home?Â
There are so many things you should'veâ You still have to attend Rafayelâs next exhibition, You still have to celebrate his birthday- Heâs still waiting for you,You made a promise-Your heart tugs again. Weakly. A bond everlasting. Everlasting. âRafayelâŚâ Itâs soft. The words whispered. A memory unwanted. How ironic. Even in death you yearn.. From the depths of the sea, To the surface. âYouâll make me rich.â the man stares down. a flicker. This is the end isnât it? Heâll flay you alive like the skeleton behind him. Then heâll be disappointed. When he finds out you are nothing but a fraud. Knock. Knock. Knock. Your heart seems to catch up in your threat, death knocking upon the doors of your soul. But itâs only when the man pauses, turning around do you realize you werenât imagining the sound. âWho is knocking this-â SFT!
It spurts. A red, leaking valve. Redder than the paints Rafayel uses to paint the sky. Redder than blood red wine. A leaky valve. Time seems to stand still, blood pooling all over the floor. Like tides pulling out towards the shore. Bleeding over marble and your scuffed shoes.Â
A contrast to the rope that binds you, and the pair of boots that stand before you. Not shoes. Boots. There is no grand announcement.
No explosion that leaves ears ringing.
No bomb to announce his arrival.
So quiet it almost slips past you.
What was that?
A shiver crawls down your spine, slow and inevitable, your gaze still fixed on the corpse collapsed at your feet.Â
The body doesnât move.
It wonât ever move again.
Then-
Another pair of hands lifts your chin.
Gentle. Careful. (Just like his hands.)
For a heartbeat, it feels like a dream. Like some cruel mercy your mind invents to soften the moment before death finally claims you.Â
A hallucination stitched together from longing and fear.
The manâs hands are still on youâ he had a knife andâ
âMy love?â
The voice is soft.
Too soft.
Tender fingers trace along your jaw, thumbs brushing warmth where there should be none. Not here. Not now.
Your breath catches.
Your heart skipsâthen stutters.
It doesnât feel real.
It canât be real.
He was too far away. Across seas. Beyond reach. Anywhere but here.
Youâre still in the No-Hunt Zone. Youâre still bound. Youâre stillâ
The hands tilt your face just enough for you to see him.
Salt and blood cling to him like a second skin.
And suddenly the room feels very, very small. So small. âHi.â You feel dumb. Dumb and happy and- Then your eyes catch his face. Scales. (Just like what you saw on Ebb day.)
But youâre dragged out of your thoughts when his thumb smoothes over your cheek, a slow, soft swipe. Something smears on the black leather, and he wipes it absent-mindedly on his pants. They're black, tooâthe stain vanishes as if it were never there. The dagger that sits at his waist gleams in the mild lighting, making the red of the metal shimmer more. Itâs silent, a sort of mutual understanding you have between each other. To study the other. To refamiliarize.
The steady thrum of your heart seems to slow, at ease around him. Then, you open your mouth. âHow⌠Did you get here?â His thumb stops and you realize heâs on his knees.
When did he get there? He sighs, a low heavy thing. Guilt stirs in your chest, at the sound.Â
You avert your eyes from his, blue depths staring into your own as you focus on the corpse on the floor.Â
His touch lingers on your cheek. âI got worried.â For a man of so many words, those few are enough to bring the ones who created language to their knees, begging to know how he constructed words in such a way that leaves people breathless.
His fingers skim down your arms, then his dagger cuts through your bindings. The rope left raw skin in its wake. Red and irritated. . âI'm sorry.â Your eyes burn. But he doesn't comment on your weakness, frighteningly silent as he merely presses his lips to your skin. âI should've listened to you.â
He pauses, before sighing once more. Then thatâs when you realize. Heâs terrified. His fingers shake as they cradle your arm, his other hand seems to grip your thigh, as if he were to hold you tight enough, you wouldnât disappear. (Long ago you broke a promise.)(Long ago he resented you for it.)(He can't lose you now. )
Petting the back of your hands, he seems to reminisce before standing. The leather on his pants seem to shimmer with dark liquid, tinted with a wine red sheen. âYou were about to break your promise.â he murmurs, just loud enough for you to hear. Guilt is a ball lodged in your chest, one you swallow heavily. âIm sorry,â you mutter, head turning away from his gaze.
All you can do is apologize, and you hate it.
âIf youâre really sorry, youâll grant me a request.â Itâs no surprise when you accept it.
ââ
When Rafayel asked you for favors, it was mostly to get Thomas off his back. Or get you to go out with him. Or let him paint you for hours on end while your muscles ached from the tense posture you kept. Not torture.
Rafayel doesnât touch you.
Wellâhe does.
Often.Â
Casually.
Much more than he used to, and thatâs saying something.
Fingers brushing your wrist, a hand settling at the small of your back, warmth everywhere it doesnât matter.
But he never wanders farther.Â
Not like he used to a few days ago. And thatâs the problem
Itâs getting to you. His fleeting, whispered touches.Â
The firm press of his lips against your shoulder, your neck, your cheekânever lingering long enough to ask permission, never staying long enough to mean something dangerous. LIke a rapid current underneath a seaâs calm surface.
If you didnât know him better, youâd think he was teasing. Waiting for you to snap so he could take control, gather you up, coddle you until you forgot how close to breaking you were.
But you see the fear he carries.
He almost lost you. All because he tried to give you something that was his.
His gifts a curse.
Just like Lemuria. Just like its people, their skin and scales stripped away and turned into artifacts, proof that beauty is always something the world thinks it can take.
You sit on the edge of the bed, thinking. The sheets are cool beneath you, yielding, almost liquidâlike water learning the shape of your body, cradling you as if you might shatter.
Youâre tired of this dance.
You arenât fragile, and you know it. The callouses lining your fingers are proof enough. You lift what others canât. Youâve survived things that should have ruined you. Hell and back, more than once.
(Perhaps he saw you as fragile. Maybe itâs a trait from long ago, set in stone and sea as he cradled your fading form in his arms, the burning sun a witness to your bond.)
âCutie?â
Warmth settles against your back, as natural as breathing.
Heâs home.Â
âWhatâs on your mind?â
His voice is soft. His fingers circle your waist, familiar and careful. His cheek brushes yours, thighs bracketing your hips, close enough to promise without daring to take.Â
His scales are still there.
They graze your skin in a slow, soothing rhythmâone youâve learned by heart.Â
A self soothing notion he has, to hold you tight and close to him, as if you were to drift away like kelp. Itâs akin to how a cat nuzzles their owner, though if Rafayel has the ability to read minds you bet heâd have your head for even comparing him to such âvile creatures.âÂ
You nearly forget his question until he pokes your ribs, a pout on his face.
âDo I need to eradicate the mailman?â he asks lightly. âI could sic some seagulls on him. They owe me anyway.â
You want to stay mad. You really do.
Heâs been toe-ing this line of everything and nothing for too long. Depraving you of his love and what ifs.Â
But not while heâs hurting. Not when youâre this starved for him.
âNo,â you say, âNot that.â
And for a moment, restrained and tender, he holds you like youâre something preciousâ like youâd shatter in the wind and leave him all alone again. Death your shadow.
(You did once. Slipping into seafoam, and all those years ago on that shore, a promise unfulfilled.)
âThen what?â he breathes. (Soon youâd realize heâs desperate to please you, his cycle thrown out of whack thanks to your kidnapping. Youâd realize how much he needs you, what heâd give to stay by you.)
The silence coats his room in a thick coat, tension bleeding from every corner. You sigh, cupping his hands underneath yours as you lean back. His body gives way just the slightest, as if not expecting the sudden trust. But that shock is quickly masked, his arms tightening. Itâs only now youâve gained the courage to ask him. âRafayel.â âYes?â âDo you fear yourself?â His hands pause. âWhat?â âDo you fear yourself, or hurting me?â The silence in the room isn't empty; itâs heavy. LIke the weight of the ocean upon both of your skins.Â
His grip on your waist doesnât loosen, but his fingers tremble.
"Fear?"
The word comes out like a laugh that died halfway up his throat. He leans his forehead against the nape of your neck, hiding his face from your sight.Â
"What if I am?â He says, but thereâs no teasing edge to it. âWhat if I do fear hurting you? I already did once.â
He shifts, his scales grazing your skin with a texture that feels like cold fire.
"I gave you what I thought would keep you safe, but it only condemned you to blood.â (he didnât want you to see that easel of vengeance.)
âBut all I know how to do is to act, to follow. To use my paint to make a world that my words canât. That Iâd follow you like a fish to the ocean even if you hated me-â
He finally pulls back just enough to look at you. His purple eyes are dark, the usual spark of mischief replaced by a turbulent, swirling depth.
"So tell me, what if I did fear?â The Lemurian Sea God, scared of hurting his bride. You feel his grip looseningâthe start of the very distance he thinks you needâand your reaction is instinctive.
You don't let him slip away. âIâd think youâre a fool, Rafayel.â The tables turn suddenly, your hands pinning him down and pressing your full weight onto him. HIs breath hitches as you lean forward, lips centimeters away. (He could push you off any moment.)(But he doesn't)
âRemember when you asked me if Iâd accept all of you?â His eyes flick downwards, just the slightest bit. They linger on your lips, and you know youâve got him in a snare. âThis is different.â He whispers, âIâŚâ âHow so?â You ask, hands bracketing his head. He shudders, a low, exhausted sound. His fingers gently flutter up and down your ribs, but they never land. Just hovering. âI⌠I canât say.â his eyes dart away from yours, a heavy emotion in his voice. Like lead in the sea. Scared, your mind supplies. Of what? You really don't know. Is it because he let you get kidnapped?
Probably not. It wasnât his fault anyway. Heâs too reasonable for that, despite his dramatics and flair. Is it because he thinks you fear him? The blood that drips from his blade? No, you work with wanderers, and youâve known this part of him for a while, almost intimately well. Youâve gone through human trafficking, experimentation, mass murder, and too much to be squeamish of a man who avoids cats like the plague. So what? Your heart stirs, an ache blooming in your chest. Youâve known this man for over a year, his lips pressed to your neck and his hips undulating against yours. Yet you canât make any sense of him. When did his fear start? When did he start pulling away? What can you do to help? I mean, itâs not his fault some guy mistaken you as a lemurian- It clicks.
Itâs not about the kidnapping.
Itâs not about the blood.
Itâs not about you fearing him.
Itâs about him fearing himself â what he is, what he could be, and what that means for you.
Lemurian.
The word settles heavy in your chest.
If someone mistook you for one, then that means you were close.Â
Close to his world.Â
Close to being dragged fully into it.Â
Close to being claimed by something that doesnât let go.
Heâs not scared youâll leave.
Heâs scared you wonât.
Scared that if you stay, youâll become a target. A bargaining chip. A weakness. Scared that loving him paints a mark on your back in blood no amount of skill or stubbornness can scrub off.
Scared that one day, he wonât get to you in time.
That next time, it will be his fault.
That next time, heâll have to choose between the world burning or you.
And he knows himself well enough to know heâd let it burn.
Thatâs what makes his fingers hover instead of land.
He isnât pulling away because he regrets you.
Heâs pulling away because he loves you.
And for the first time, you understand:
He isnât afraid of losing you.
Heâs afraid of ruining you.
You havenât moved in a while, eyes wide. He doesnât know whatâs going on in your pretty brain, but he also doesn't want to find out. A part of him is selfish like that. After all, would it be so bad to finally have something of his own? Something to hold, cherish. Pampered with all his soul while they stayed in his domain, safe and sound. But he canât do that to you. You need sunlight, you are a land-dweller after all. Besides. Heâs already cursed you. (Once again, another reason to hate what he is.) The pearls sit pretty, dangling from your ears as you stare down, mouth slack. The bond deep inside him seems to scramble, his reason and wants all clashing with each other like ice against land.Â
It yearns and yearns, pulling towards you like the tideâhungry, devouring, desperateâwhile his instincts scream at him to get away. To keep you from damnation. But a small part of him wishes, for once, that the beings that have created him to grant him one thing. For you to choose him, not because of the bond, but because he exists. Not as Lemurian. Not as a god. Not as worshiper.Â
But as Rafayel
A crazy, passionate artist, obsessed with his muse and deathly afraid of cats.Â
âHow is it different,â he hears you press. âI meant it when I said it.â
But the tone in your words is different.
 Softer.Â
Mournful.
Like youâve already lost him, or something in him ,before you could even hold it.
(It breaks his heart how you think heâd be anything but yours.)His fingers flex, hesitant. He battles with himself, but instinct buts in and his fingers close around your waist, gentle. An indulgence he allows himself. âBecauseâŚâ The words taper off at the end. âBecause youâre afraid what will happen to me?â You bring your hand up, gently stroking the skin of his cheek as your knees bracket his hips. And like always, heâs unable to resist your touch, a moth drawn to a flame.
One of his hands comes down to hold your hand, pressing it against his face as he stares you in the eye. As if challenging you. âWhat are you trying to achieve, Rafayel?â you breathe."Are you trying to push me away?â Truth be told, he doesnât know what heâs doing. The only thing he knows is the scratch of his scales against the smooth surface of your fingers, the intoxicating scent that spills from your pores and infects his mind. The fins on his ears flutter, flapping against the sheets. When did they appear? You do not understand your lover. You do not understand his fear of cats, but you listen. You do not understand why he procrastinates, instead finding and spending all his time with you, clinging to you, taking you to aquariums, everywhere and nowhere.Â
Gifting you flowers, his love, his body, his soul.
Now, you don't understand his fear.
(To be loved is to be changed.) Even now heâs changed, pupils blown wide as his mouth opens and closes, like a fish out of water, struggling to give you an answer. For a moment, you want to push off. Give him space. Give him everything he could ever need. Baby his dramatics and laugh with him in the sea. Watch him pout at you as you hold him with two hands wrapped around him. Smile at his paintings and talk about nonsensical things. But those seem more like wants rather than needs.
Your wants. You want everything and more of him. An all consuming passion, mirroring the bond that aches. (In a sense you both are cruel to each other. A dance that never ends.)
But in a way, you love each other more than the sea does the shore. âYou wonât break me, Rafayel.â You whisper, eyes unbearably soft. His hands tighten, both on your hand and waist. âHow can you be so sure about that?â he mutters. And your heart aches, because who told Rafayel he couldnât have anything? That his kingdom was a crime, Lemurians a prize? How can he be so sure heâd ruin you? You watch his chest heave, and then the wet glimmer of tears appear on his lash line. You watch one crystalize. A pearl.
He sobs.Â
Hard.Â
Because how has he found you? Someone perfect for him, who slots perfectly against his soul and loves despite the rapids. His fingers tighten on the fabric of your shirt, nails digging in while his other hand clutches yours like a lifeline. You watch him try to suck in one last breath, but when you stroke his cheek he breaks, a wounded sound from his throat.
No words are spoken. Maybe there was never meant to be any. (the bond will speak through your hearts, like the water of the sea, interconnected.) The hand on your waist tugs, and you go willingly.Â
His face buries into your chest, the pearls a cool sensation against your skin. And for the first time in years, that carefully made mask of self-loathing and hate breaks.
â
You rocked him back and forth while he cried, pearls gathering in every crevice. The words that seemed to come to him so easily didnât come, and for a remainder of the time you spent the rest of your afternoon by his side. âDonât touch it.â A sniffle. âTheyâre disgusting.â Is he referring to his tears? You look around, before you sigh. It's hard not to touch them, especially when theyâre scattered all over the bed and plopped on the floor. âWhy do you think of them like that?â You mutter. He doesnât respond, instead favoring the swell of your breast as he buries himself further into your skin. As if he wanted to become your bone marrow, so incomparably intertwined with your mass that youâd never be apart. You roll the pearly beads in your hand, cupping him. He only glares. âI thought artists were supposed to see beauty in everything.â You poke. Itâs a risky move, especially when his eyes still hold traces of tears. But his eyes merely soften, âI only see beauty in you.â He murmurs, tracing a line down your side. âBefore you came into my life, colors were colors. They were something the deep didnât have, but nevertheless, they were just colors.â He pauses. âYou gave them meaning, something more than just pigment.â The silence thickens, and you have a feeling the conversation is over, so you lean back and merely hold him, his legs intertwined with yours. But something had changed after that. âRafayel-! Let go!â You grunt, fingers trying to pry off sticky octopus suckersâRafayelâs sticky fingersâ as you try to leave the bed. âI'm hungry!â you whine,â And you probably are too!â
He huffs, clearly not pleased, but his grip loosens. Finally, you thought. Oh no, no no. That was only the beginning. He clung to you the rest of the evening, open-mouthed kisses anywhere he could get his lips on. He didnât leave you alone on the couchâpressed up to your side or you pressed up to hisâ walked with you along the beach, and dragged you into the kitchen to cook while clinging onto your arm! How did you achieve this in one evening? You donât know! More than one time he has kissed you dumb, his fingers cradling and angling your cheek towards him as his tongue swipes against the seam of your mouth. Sensual and slow. It baffles you how quickly his emotions and behavior can change, a sulky fish in one second, then a love bomb in the next. âCutieeee why canât we go to seaâŚâ His voice would almost be grating to your ears, but stupid man has the lull of a siren. You groan for what feels like the umpteenth time in the past hour, his fingers splaying broadly across your body. âBecause Thomas told me to keep an eye on you, and I can't do that if youâre off in the ocean swimming around like a happy fish while I canât see anything!â You whine right back, leaning backwards in hopes of throwing him off, but he only presses firmer into you. Bearing your weight like it weighs nothing. Seriously for all that time acting like a damsel in distress, he sure has some muscle. He scowls at the mention of his managerâs name before burying his face into the crook of your neck. HIs scales still havenât gone away. You stare at the mop of hair on your shoulder before sighing. You feel like a baby deer just learning to walk, and you're just as sure he is too. HIs fingers still hesitate when they grab you, he still sometimes hovers around you, and itâs just. Itâs like a shattered glass pane., narrowly held together, but still waiting to break. You just hope itâll go away soon. â Hot
It screams. Writhes and squirms,Â
The water seems so tempting, the waves crashing. It begs.Â
Leave and never turn back with this land of filthy- No.Â
No wait .
His head turns, away from the tantalizing expanse of the sea.
Beside him lies a treasure no amount of devotees could give. A treasure worth more than the world You. Hesitating, his fingers gently caress the skin of your cheek. Warm, silky, and dry to his wet flesh. A balm to the ache the festers. HIs gaze trails over your form, blue pupils swallowed whole. You sleep so peacefully. (He doesn't dare ruin you.)So he turns away, sheets tangled at his waist as you cling to his other hand. He never noticed how warm you were.Â
(He does not feel the heat burning beneath his skin.)(He does not feel the ache that slowly blooms in his stomach.) The sea does that. Keeps you in cold waters. Maybe next time, he reasons. With a quick motion, he tucks the sheets firmly around you, cocooning you. But his soul screams now.
He ignores it, and instead answers the call of the sea.Â
(The sensation beneath his skin prickles.)
â- You wake up to a cold bed, the sheets rumpled. You blearily open your eyes, the sheets a warm embrace around your body. Itâs suspiciously silent, a cold draft waltzing in through the windows and bringing in the scent of seasalt. It smells of the cologne Rafayel likes to use, always spritzing it on you when he could. Something about how to make sure everyone knew who you-
Wait. Where is Rafayel? In record time your eyes shoot open, blankets flung over the mattress where Rafayel would be.Â
But thereâs no one there. âRafayel?â You call out, voice small.
No one responds.
Your heart sinks into your chest in record time, fear taking hold of your heart. Swinging your legs over the edge of the bed, you race down the stairs. Heâs not in the living room, not in the kitchen, not in his studio, not even outside on the shore- The ocean. The window. Your eyes widen. The glass doors reveal a set of footprints laden in the sand of the coast. Untouched, and fresh, as if a memory fogged over. Briefly, the scales on his face flash to the front of your mind. (Ebb day.) No, it canât. Because those scales have been on his face for⌠You swallow, the deep blue before you a maw of water and abyss. You open the doors, your feet meeting cool sand.Â
âRafayel?â you call once more. You expect no answer. There is no one on the beach, no mop of purple hair nor a shimmer of scales beneath the surface. But something hums beneath your skin, tugging. Beckoning. A sirenâs song youâd soon realize. It sings like a whaleâs call, deep and resonating between your ribcage, settling underneath your bones like it belongs. Leaves you light-headed and in a haze. âCome to meâ are the words never spoken. Written in silk and song, With each step forward, the ocean seems to hum, as if yearning. Hands deprived of love and warmth as it crashes upon the shore, the sands shifting beneath your feet. Itâs unconscious, an instinct written deep in your soul. A bond everlasting.
The waterâs edge kisses your ankles. Gentle. (Briefly the image of his lips on your calf pops, hooded eyes staring up into yours.)You linger where the sand meets the sea, hesitant. Just what tugs you along? What exactly makes this such a good idea?
What if you drown? What if a leviathan comes out from the waters and swallows you whole? So many possibilities. But you still step in, the sea lapping at your skin like a gift delivered. It warms you, the breeze brushes against your skin and you suck in a breath. Itâs everything and nothing. A connection only you could explain, a piece of a puzzle finally clicking in place as you slowly swim out. Away from the shore, towards the horizon. Towards where home always should've been. â The ripples caress his skin. The smell assaults him. His eyes open, pearly blues ripping wide to look up at the surface, light from the moon maidenâs grace piercing through the currents/
The world is quiet, sound drowned out by the oceanâs embrace, but something else catches his ears, fins rippling. They hum, buzzing. (His soul knew before his mind.)
The abyss yawns below like an open mouth.
It is home.
But this? This is hunger.
A sweetness threading through the water, wrapping around his senses, seeping into the marrow of him. The perfume he pressed against your throat. The warmth he buried himself in night after night.
Not the usual rhythm of whale-song. Not the distant grind of tectonic sorrow. This is sharper. Closer.
Familiar.
His head lifts.
Far above, at the seam where sea meets sky, a silhouette breaks the light.
Small.
Fragile.
Wrong.
Noâ
Not wrong.
You.
You traverse the waters like itâs your own, hands parting the waters. They obey, gentle and coaxing.
The bond.
It pulses between you, a silver thread wound through his ribs, tightening with every languid stroke you take.
What have you done?
A low trill hums, and it takes a moment to realize that itâs coming from him. A sound of pure and utter delight.Â
Bring her down, it hums.
She comes willingly., it whispers.
You are not meant for this depth. Already your movements slow, the drag of salt stealing warmth from your skin. Your eyes are open.
Looking for him.
Always looking.
Then, suddenly your head bends down, below the waters and despite the distance, he comes face to face with the prettiest color heâs seen in years. It takes his breath away, and he groans at the feeling of his slit spreading, the heads of his cocks emerging. HIs fins flutter once more.
He decides then that indulgence was a sin heâd gladly partake in. With one powerful stroke, his tail propels him through the sea, his fins trailing after him like ribbons. He does not know what goes through your mind. All he knows is the enchanting call of you, the smell of your skin, the feel of your skin, your voice, your body, your soul. Mine, a part of him whispers. Mine to love, mine to hold, mine to comfort, mine to spoil, mine to worship, mine. A pearl sat in the clutches of a Lemurian. With a large splash, he surfaces. One of his hands clutch your waist, the webbed patches of skin between his fingers a sticky sensation as his chin hooks over the swell of your breast. His other arm supports your bottom, his digits splayed possessively over your thigh/ There are a lot of things you should be asking. Rafayel, where have you been?! Rafayel, why do you look like this? Rafayel has ebb day arrived? Didn't it arrive days ago? Whatâs going on?To be completely honest, you had every intention to scold him.
But the second you were lifted into the air, sunset eyes staring into your own, your mind went blank. â..Hi.â You whisper. He doesnât say anything, and itâs only now do you realize the color of his eyes are swallowed whole by his pupils. âIs this a dream?â He finally murmurs, his breath a warm caress against your throat. Maybe. But something tells him that it isnât. The way you squirm in his hold, the way your heart beats and the way your scent spikes, a heat growing. Your hand cups his cheek, and he practically moans at the feeling of your skin against his. It's soft, itâs warm, itâs everything he needs.
Breed her. Fill her up and give her your love, show her youâre fit to be her mateâ
His fingers flex. âYou trust me, right?â He mutters. His voice strained as if restraint was a string that was about to snap inside of him. This conversation again. âOf course. Iâve said this so many times, you know?â You murmur, hands ghosting over the scales that frame the sharp lines of his cheeks. Splash!
One moment you were breathing in the cool, salty air of the sea. The next, youâre suddenly smothered against plush lips, familiar lips that ravage you. Itâs an encompassing hunger, one that takes and takes. One that makes your chest ache and a heat between your legs bloom as his hands roam. The kiss isnât gentle.
Itâs a claiming.
Rafayelâs mouth crashes into yours like the first wave after a stormârelentless, tasting of salt and a taste youâve swallowed underneath desks and between narrow alleyways. His tongue pets the seam of our lips, coaxing, and you open. Almost immediately a sinewy muscle tangles and sucks around yours in long, possessive strokes that leave you gasping for air. The forked tip flicks against the roof of your mouth once, twice, deliberate, like heâs reminding you exactly whoâs kissing you. Who holds your soul and warms your bed.
You make a small, broken sound at the thought.
He drinks it down.
One webbed hand stays clamped at the small of your back, holding you flush to the cool, scaled planes of his chest. Subconsciously your hips chase the friction he gives, his own rolling up into your clothed heat as your eyes roll back at the delightful sensation.Â
Surely you werenât this starved- I mean itâs only been-
All thought effectively cuts off when he gives a particularly harsh thrust. âIf youâre thinking, then Iâm not doing a good job.â He snarls, words whispered against your throat like a dark promise as he sucks right underneath the sensitive skin of your ear.
The water buoys you both, but gravity still exists in the way he presses forwardâtail coiling tighter around your legs, two, scorching hot lengths pressing up into your thigh- Wait. Two?!
You flinch violently, as a dejected sound pours out of his lips before he can stop it. Moonlight slices across his faceâscales glinting like fractured amethyst, pupils so wide the violet is only a thin ring. He looks feral. Worshipful. Terrified.
âRafayelââ
He chases your mouth again before you can finish, softer this time but no less hungry. Down the line of your jaw, over the frantic flutter at your throat, teeth grazing just enough to make you shiver without breaking skin. âPlease-I promise Iâll be gentle-â He mouths at the stretch of your throat. âItâll feel good I promise-â HIs hips buck, and simultaneously you both moan. Him at the sensation of your dewy folds just barely kissing the head of one cock, you at the feel of his love pressing in.
âI waited,â he rasps against your pulse. Voice wrecked. âDays, weeks, months, years. Thought Iâd lost you forever this time.â Another kiss, open and wet, right over your racing heartbeat. âI couldnât bear that, I just couldn't" How could you deny him? Then youâre pressed into the sand, back cushioned by his hand as he sobs, face pressed right in between your cleavage.Â
You never saw what he truly looked like as a lemurian. But now, underneath the moonâs light, you can finally appreciate the scales that dot his cheeks, reinvigorated by water. You can roll your palms down to the sides of his tail, the fins fluttering rapidly as he mouths desperately at your skin.
His tail flexesâstrong, sinuousâlifting your hips higher so the sleeker cock can curl upward again, past the barrier of fabric between him and your core. The tapered tip dragging a slow, deliberate line through your folds before wrapping loosely around your clit like warm silk . It pulses once. You jolt, nails digging into the fine scales along his shoulders. âWhat- Ah!- Rafayel!â You wail, legs kicking out. Itâsâ weird, how different it is, how warm he is, the encompassing weight he presses against you, the long spiraling length of his tail. âJust me,â he whispers, grinding up and down in harsh, hypnotic motions. âJust me.â
He groans, no better than a man drunk on wine, except this time itâs the smell of your arousal in the water.
In one fluid motion he rips the fabric of your panties, the sound of the cotton ripping echoing through the water. Youâd have to remember to make him pay for those later- But then he rocks his hips and ohâ
âFeel that?â he murmurs, hips rocking in the smallest, most torturous grind. The thicker head stretches your entrance just enough to tease the burn without giving you the fullness youâre starting to ache for. âHow badly I want inside you. How badly Iâve always wanted.â How badly I ache for you, how badly this bond writhes and screams for every part of you. How much Iâd give, how much Iâd worship, how much Iâd love.
You try to speakâsomething coherent, something that isnât just his nameâbut all that comes out is a whimper when the curled cock tightens its grip on your clit and pulls. Not hard. Just enough. A living, rhythmic throb that makes your thighs shake around his waist.
âPlease,â you manage. The word cracks.
His forehead drops to yours. Breath ragged.
âSay it again.â
âPlease, Rafayel. I needââ
He cuts you off with another kissâthis one slower, deeper, almost reverent. When he pulls back his eyes are still black, but thereâs something raw flickering behind them. Something that looks dangerously close to tears.
âShhh⌠Itâs okay, cutie.â He nuzzles your throat, one of his hands coming up to cup one of your breasts, flicking the perky nipples on top. âIâll take care of you,â He babbles, nonsense mixed with flowing syllables. (Lemurian maybe?) Two fingers plunge into your foldsâfast, precise, unyielding. Your spongy walls part around them like they were always meant to, slick welcoming the intrusion as though your body has already surrendered to him. It would be humiliating how easily you open up for him, but he gazes at you with such love it feels like worship.
The delicate webbing between his knuckles traps your clit, pinning the swollen, pulsing bud cruelly against his palm. You squirm, hips jerking, but his tail coils tighter around your thighâtranslucent fin curling possessively over soft skin, holding you open, helpless, exactly where he wants you.
âWell, thatâs another advantage,â he murmurs. His voice burrows into you, low and resonant, vibrating through water and bone until every cell feels tuned to him. âAre you okay with this, Pearlie?â
His mouth never stopsâopen, hot kisses raining along the column of your throat, lips brushing your racing pulse. Warmth bleeds from his scaled chest into yours. His tail traces deliberate, languid paths up your inner thigh, fin flexing with quiet, unyielding strength that belies its delicate shimmer under moonlight.
âPearlie.â A soft huff against your skin, patient even as his fingers slow inside you. The sudden drag of friction makes you startleâhands flying to clamp around his thick wrist, nails biting into surprisingly warm, almost translucent flesh. âI need you to answer.â
Your throat locks. Words tangle. The dark water presses in, relentless, and your lungs feel fragile, like they might cave under the weight of everything: the current, the heat, the unbearable tension coiling low in your belly.
âIâIââ
He stills completely. Fingers buried to the last knuckle, but motionless now. The two thick lengths pressed hot and heavy against your thigh throb once, twiceâbetraying how close he is to losing controlâyet he waits.
âItâs okay, my love.â His free hand slides up, threading gently through your wet hair, petting the strands back as best he can in the shifting current. âI wonât let you drown. Mkay?â
A whimper escapes when he finally withdrawsâslow, deliberateâfingers dragging along every sensitive ridge inside you. You clench around nothing, aching at the loss. He swipes the slick coating his hand over your folds instead, massaging it into swollen flesh in lazy, grounding circles. Each pass sends fresh zings of pleasure-pain sparking up your spine; your hips buck helplessly.
âYouâre so strong, Pearlie,â he whispers against the shell of your ear, intimate, almost reverent. âEven down hereâyour body fights the pressure. Resists. Opens for me anyway.â
Heat floods your cheeks. His tongue darts out, swiping a slow, possessive line across your burning skin. A soft chuckle rumbles from his chestâyou feel it more than hear it.
Unfair. So fucking unfair.
Here you areâsurrounded by him in every way that matters: cradled by the sea he commands, pinned by his hands, dwarfed by the sheer size of him, the heat of him, the endless want radiating off him.
You paw weakly at his chest, thighs twitching, muscles jumping every time his palm pats your cuntâgentle, possessive little taps that make you clench and whine.
He catches your wrist, brings your hand to his lips, kisses the center of your palm like itâs sacred.
âTell me when youâre ready,â he breathes. âWe have the whole week. I made sure of it.â
His tail shiftsâfin stroking higher, curling tighterâand he waits.
Patient.
Starving.
Yours.
Your hips buck helplessly, a coil of fragile glass heating.
âRafayelâOh fuck-close!ââ
âI know.â His voice drops to something darker, something ancient. âI can feel it. The way you flutter. The way the bond pulls tighter every time I touch you hereââ His fingers slip in once more, crooking just righttt ââand here.â The curled cock squeezes your clit in a slow, pulsing rhythm.
You sob his name.
He trillsâlow, pleased, vibrating through his chest into yours.
âCome for me, my pearl. Let me feel you break on my fingers first. Then Iâll fill you.. Keep every drop inside until youâre swollen with me.â
The promise tips you over.
You come with a choked cry, clenching hard around his fingers, slick gushing down his hand and mixing with the warm water. He works you through itâslow, relentless strokesâmurmuring praise against your throat the whole time.
âGood girl. So good for me. Look at you⌠coming so pretty for me.â
Your legs twitch erratically, all while his lips latch onto your nipple, that wicked tongue sucking and lapping over the sensitive buds. His fingers pump lazily, dragging your orgasm along. When the aftershocks finally ease, he pulls his fingers free, and your cheeks heat up at the sight of your cum sticky on his fingers. He doesnât give you time to catch your breath.
The moment your fingers loosen in his hair, Rafayel shiftsâfast, fluid, predatory. His hands grasp higher around your lower back and thighs, bending you nearly in half with terrifying ease. Your knees press toward your shoulders, feet hovering uselessly near your face, the position folding you open like an offering laid bare to the moon and the sea.
Exposed.
Vulnerable.
Completely at his mercy. You watch in anticipation as his face lowers, your fingers instinctively burying into his silky tresses. He shudders when you graze the edges of his fins. Interesting.Â
Your schemes get interrupted when a warm current swirls between your thighs as he lowers his head. His breath ghosts over your still-twitching cuntâhot, deliberateâand you whimper at the barest brush of it against swollen, oversensitive flesh.
âLook at you,â he murmurs, voice thick with reverence and hunger. âStill fluttering. Still dripping for me.â
His tongue flicks outâlong, forked, wickedâtracing the seam of you from your hole to clit in one slow, obscene drag. You jerk, a high, startled sound escaping your throat. He hums approval against you, the vibration traveling straight up your spine.
Then he seals his mouth over you.
No teasing this time.
He devours. âRaf- Ohhh!
Lips soft but unyielding, he sucks your clit between themâgentle pressure at first, then harder, rhythmic pulls that make your hips buck uselessly against the iron grip of his tail. His tongue works in cruel tandem: the forked tips flicking rapid little strokes over the hood, then flattening to lap broad, greedy stripes through your folds, gathering every drop of slick like heâs starved for it.
You sob his name, fingers tightening in his locks.Â
He only answers with a low, rolling trill that resonates through the water and into your bones. Something that soothes your soul in a way that aches, something that swallows and gives.
One hand slides up the back of your thigh, webbed fingers spreading you wider. The other braces against your hip, holding you steady while he works his tongue deeperâpushing inside, curling, stroking the slick walls that still spasm from your last orgasm.
Then he goes deeper.
The tip of his tongueâimpossibly long, impossibly flexibleâseeks and finds that deepest place inside you. Brushes the tight, sensitive mouth in the deepest parts of you.
Your whole body locks.
A strangled cry tears from your throat. âW-Wait slow- Mphâ down!â You wail, tugging harshly at his hair again.
He groans against youâraw, feralâwhen he feels you clench around the intrusion. The sound vibrates straight through your core, ecstasy a bolt of lightning up and down your spine.
âThere,â he rasps, pulling back just enough to speak against your soaked folds. His lips are glossy with you. âRight here. Feel me?â
He presses forward againâslow, deliberateâtongue curling to nudge that spot over and over. Not hard. Just persistent. Teasing little brushes that make your thighs shake violently, make your toes curl in the open air.
Every time the forked tips press against your abused nerves, pleasure spikes so sharp it almost hurtsâbright, electric, overwhelming. Your hands scrabble at his shoulders, nails digging into scales, but he doesnât stop. Doesnât slow.
He laps. Sucks. Thrusts his tongue in shallow, filthy strokes that keep bumping that deepest place while his upper lip grinds against your clit.
Youâre shaking apart.
Again.
Already.
âRafayelâtoo muchâ!â
âNot enough,â he growls into you. âNot nearly enough.â
He sucks harder on your clit at the same moment his tongue curls and pressesâfirm, insistentâright against your cervix. You canât warn him, but your mouth still parts and your tongue still moves uselessly. âRafayel!â But he knows, heâs learned your body through countless nights of dreaming, of staring and worship. How your walls spasm when youâre close, how you clench down like you never want him to leave. He surges forward once more, starving and lapping at the fountain of nectar that is your arousal, doubling his efforts as you squeal at the sensation.
The world whites out in a bang.
You come so hard your vision blacks at the edges, a silent scream caught in your throat as your whole body convulses. Slick floods his mouth; he drinks greedily, trilling low and pleased, tail tightening to keep you folded and open while you ride the brutal waves.
He doesnât let up until youâre whimpering, oversensitive, twitching with every tiny flick of his tongue. Youâre fingers tug, insistent as you sob, overstimulation prickling between pain and pleasure. Itâs only when your own soul presses up against his, persistent, does he let down on his assault on your senses.
Only then does he ease backâslow, reluctantâkissing your swollen folds like an apology. Soft. Worshipful.
When he finally lifts his head, his chin glistens, lips kiss-bitten and dark. His pupils are blown so wide thereâs almost no violet left. Only a void of adoration and love, as if witnessing a meteor shower overseas.
He rises over you, tail still cradling your folded form, both thick lengths throbbing hot against your inner thigh.
His fingers gently cup your cheek. The webbed skin sticks to yours, but the warmth seems to lull your pounding heart into a steady rhythm, mirroring his. The slow beating pump of lives in sync. As you come down from your high, he peppers kisses across your face, sweet nothings a promise etched into skin and flesh, seeping into bone. âYou did so well for me, my love.â A kiss to your cheek. âYou come so pretty, you know?â He nuzzles you, scales scratching your skin. âIâd paint you, if only you could see how lovely you lookâŚâ
One hand cups your face, thumb brushing away the tears of overstimulation that slipped free without you realizing. Then you feel him, thicker cock pressed against your entrance as he waits, his tail swishing back and forth. A firm pressure against your core.Â
âI promised Iâd fill you,â he says, softer now. Almost reverent. âKeep every drop inside until youâre swollen. Until you carry me.â
He rises, movements fluid and graceful.
âLook at me,â he whispers.
You do.
His eyes are still blown black, but the violet is bleeding back inâsoft, reverent, almost afraid.
âI love you,â he says. Simple. Raw. Like the words have been clawing at his throat for centuries. âMy soul.â
Then he thrustsâslow, deep, both lengths sliding home in one long glideâand the ocean swallows the sound of your broken moan.
He stills for a heartbeat, buried to the hilt, forehead pressed to yours, trembling.
âMine,â he breathes.
Yours, the bond answers, silver-hot and endless.
And then he starts to move.
Slow at first, deliberate, letting you feel every inch as both lengths stretch you open, the thicker one claiming the front wall while the sleeker one burrows alongside it, dragging along that sensitive ridge inside of you with every retreat.
Your breath stutters at each push and pull, the veins that line his shaft rubbing against your raw nerves just so.
The stretch is exquisite and obscene, a burning fullness that makes your toes curl against the wet sand. Water laps at your joined bodies in gentle counter-rhythm, but it canât soothe the fire heâs stoking. You feel split open in the best wayâraw, exposed, worshipped. His tail keeps your hips lifted, thighs folded high, so he can sink impossibly deep with each measured thrust.
âFeel me,â he rasps against your mouth, voice wrecked and reverent. âAll of me. Finally.â
You canât form words. Only broken sounds escapeâwhimpered gasps, his name fractured into syllables. Your walls flutter helplessly around the dual intrusion, slick and swollen from earlier orgasms, gripping him like theyâre afraid heâll disappear again.
He groans low in his throat, the sound vibrating through his chest into yours.
âYouâre so tight⌠so warm⌠taking both like you were made for this.â His forehead presses harder against yours, scales catching moonlight. âMade for me.â
One webbed hand slides up to cradle the back of your neck, thumb stroking the pulse hammering there. The other stays braced under your lower back, supporting your weight so the angle stays perfectâevery thrust grinding the curled length against that spot that makes stars burst behind your eyelids.
Your nails rake down his shoulders, catching on fine scales. He shudders violently at the sting, hips stuttering forward harder once, twice, before he reins himself in with visible effort.
âEasy,â he murmurs, though it sounds more like heâs pleading with himself. âI promised gentle⌠but gods, Pearlie, you feelââ Another deep roll of his hips cuts him off. He swallows a curse in what might be Lemurian.
The bond thrums between you, alive and molten. Every time he bottoms out, it flares brighterâsilver threads tightening, pulling your heartbeats into sync. You can feel him through it: the frantic need, the ancient hunger, the terror that this might still be a dream heâll wake from alone.
You clench around him on instinctâhardâand his rhythm falters.
âFuckâdonâtââ His voice cracks. âIf you do that again I wonât last.â
But youâre already too far gone. The ache has turned vicious: deep, insistent, demanding fullness, demanding more. Your body knows what it wants even if your mind is still catching up. Your hips cant upward to meet his next thrust, chasing that impossible depth.
Rafayelâs control splinters.
He surges forward, burying himself to the root, both lengths pulsing hot inside you. The curled one wraps tighter around that swollen bundle of nerves just inside, stroking in time with his thrusts like a living thing. The thicker one grinds mercilessly against your front wall, pressing right against your cervix with every snap of his hips.
You cry outâsharp, overwhelmedâand he swallows the sound with a desperate kiss.
âShh, Iâve got you,â he whispers into your mouth. âIâve got you, my pearl. Let go again. Let me feel it.â
His pace quickensânot rough, but relentless. Water churns around you both, small waves breaking against your skin. His tail flexes, lifting you higher so he can drive deeper, harsher.Â
âGonna breed you,â He moans, eyes wrenched shut as his hips slam against your ass in undulating motions, both reverent yet rough. His tip relentlessly kisses the soft spongy spot inside of you, bullying it as you squirm and whine, words no longer an option as youâre fucked dumb and pilant for your god. Pleasure is a firework that crackles up and down your body, folding and cresting in waves until they crash over- âCome for me, my bride.â He mutters, âShow the sea proof of our bond.
The words tip you.
You come againâharder than beforeâwalls spasming violently around both lengths, milking him with rhythmic pulses. Slick gushes, mixing with seawater. Your vision whites out for a second, body locking tight as pleasure crashes through you like a riptide.
Rafayel follows with a broken trillâhalf moan, half song.
He buries himself as deep as he can go, his hands burying into the sand. Heat floods you in thick, pulsing wavesârope after rope of release painting your insides, warm and endless. The curled length throbs in counterpoint, pressing against your cervix like itâs trying to deliver straight to your womb.
He trembles above you, forehead pressed to yours, scales glittering with water and moonlight.
âMine,â he whispers again, voice raw. âMy bride. My soul. My everything.â
You can only whimper in answer, body still fluttering around him, aftershocks rolling through you both.
He doesnât pull outâcanât, not yet. Instead he eases you down slowly, rolling until youâre cradled against his scaled chest, tail still coiled loosely around your legs like a living blanket. HIs cocks jostles inside of you, and youâre reminded of how youâre still bonded, very tiny shift sending fresh sparks through your oversensitive nerves.
You both stay like that for a while, somewhere along the way shifting to your side as his hands pet over your hair.
âStay with me,â he murmurs against your temple. âJust like this. Let the sea hold us.â
Pearlsâhis tearsâfloat around you in the shallows, luminous and drifting like tiny moons. Some catch in your hair, some rest against his collarbone. He doesnât brush them away this time.
For the first time, they donât feel like shame.
They feel like offerings.
Like proof.
You turn your face into his neck, breathing in salt and him.
âIâm not going anywhere,â you whisper.
His arms tighten.
The ocean rocks you both, gentle now, as the moon watches and the bond hums steady between your hearts.
Safe.
Home.
