Eric Gregory Award
I was completely shocked to find out I received an Eric Gregory Award from the Society of Authors. The Gregory is a yearly award given to a handful of poets under 30 and theyâve been going for over 50 years.Â
Some of my favourite poets have been the recipient of the same award, and I received it alongside two writer friends (Sam Buchan-Watts and Andrew McMillan). Also nice to have my dream collection title on a fancy bit of paper. You can read more about this yearâs awards here.
Interview & new poem on Poetry Spotlight
The very nice people at Poetry Spotlight interviewed me recently and also published a poem of mine called 'What The Darkness Is Doing Is Always The Secondary Issue'.
You can read my interview here.
Poem for Alaa Abd el-Fattah
This weekend I read a poem which I wrote for English Penâs Modern Literature Festival, as part of the Enemies Project, where over 30 contemporary UK-based writers presented new works in tribute to writers at risk around the world.
The writer I was asked to write about was Alaa Abd el-Fattah, who is imprisoned for five years for allegedly taking part in a peaceful protest in Egypt.Â
Here is a fragment of the poem that I wrote - which goes on for 661 words which, at the time of performing the piece, was the same number of days he had spent in prison.
Two new poems published in The Next Review
The lovely people at The Next Review published two of my poems - âKingfisher Daysâ and âBlossom of the Cul-de-sacâ.Â
You can buy an issue, featuring a great discussion between Andrew McMillan and Amy Key, here.
New poem published - Ambit Magazine
My poem âDonât Let Me Down, Important Spectacleâ has been published in the newest issue of Ambit (no.223).Â
You can buy the magazine, which has a lot of great poems in it, here.

Two new poems up on Queen Mobâs Tea House
My poems âNo Clippingâ and âAn Appreciation of Real Lifeâ have been published by the kind people at Queen Mobâs. You can read them here.
Some nice news
I was highly commended for the Faber New Poets this year, amongst some really great talent. Apparently there were over 900 submissions, so to make it to the shortlist of about 14 people has blown my mind.Â
Congratulations to the winners and the other poets on the shortlist, thank you to Faber & Faber, too. You can read all about the scheme here.
Best British Poetry 2015
My poem End Space was featured in this yearâs Best British Poetry, alongside some hugely talented people. You can buy the book from the publishers, Salt, here.Â
Massive thanks to Emily Berry for including me in the anthology.

Lines for Her Majestyâs Government
Between 2012-2014, I wrote a series of poems collected under the title 'Lines for Her Majesty's Government'.
These poems, which started off as a writing exercise, are formed of segments of statements the UK Government provided to newspapers. These are chosen entirely at random and placed in an order on the page, which is not edited. The poems also feature unused lines from my own notebooks, again chosen at random.
Below are all of the poems, each with a title and the date in which they were written. Iâm not carrying on the project anymore, and I think they would look strange if published individually/separately. Just click the âkeep readingâ section to see them all.
I should point out these are not written as a âcommentâ on previous or current Government policy.Â

New collaborative poem by me and Amy Key on The Bohemyth
Amy and me wrote a collaborative piece based on star signs, which was commissioned by SJ Fowler as part of the Gelynion: Welsh Enemies project. It was a joy to write and work with Amy, who has been a great friend and poetry chum ever since I started writing.
You can read our poem âG E M I N Iâ right here, kindly published by the good people at The Bohemyth (lots of other good sutff in the issue, too).
My Simpsons poem in Clinicâs anthology Can I Borrow A Feeling?
I am so delighted that my poem Homerâs Final Speech in Harold Pinterâs âThe Homercomingâ has been published in this beautiful Simpsonâs poem anthology by Clinic.Â
It is full of amazing poems about Springfield from writers like Sam Riviere, Rebecca Perry, Crispin Best, Amy Blakemore, Jack Underwood and Mark Waldron.
You can buy a copy here.
