Attis

If there was one thing always on Attis’ mind it would be his mother and how he missed Greece. While he loved being in America, there was still something that drew him back to thoughts of Greece during the day. He wasn’t sure exactly how to get rid of the thoughts but he figured maybe talking about it might help. There was only one person he felt comfortable talking to about his past; Nyx, while he hadn’t seen her too often since his move he still talked to her every now and again. He knocked at her door, patiently waiting for her to open as the memories of home came flooding in.

“Cute” The Italian says with no emotion ringing in his tone this morning. “is James here this morning or do I have to come back at lunch again?” To his parents, he was the Golden Boy, to his son, he was the deadbeat runaway but to the men who he supplied with… goods, he could often feel like the Grim Reaper. Maddox dabbled in different things, this particular one was merely a side business to his own business. 

Attis quirked an eyebrow at the remark of the other, but he figured it was best to shrug it off. “James? There’s nobody here by that name as far as I’m aware.” he said, eyebrows knitting into a frown as he looked around the shop. He wasn’t particularly good with names, but he was fairly sure that there was no one hiding in any corner of the book store -not today at least-. He took a seat on his office chair behind the desk, eyeing the other for a second before turning his eyes to the ordering list on his computer. 

 “would you? ugh, that would be amazing! see, that’s such a great idea!” Cassie beamed at his suggestion. “it has been a hot minutes since I’ve even read or thought about a children’s book, i’m so out of the loop I swear.”

“I wouldn’t offer if I wasn’t genuine.” the Greek shrugged. “I think that goes for most adults -- I tend to vary with my reading as I do like the -- immaturity and just -- simple relaxation you can get from a ‘children’s’ book at times.” 

“Neither am I, surprisingly.” He laughed. “But together though? In one name?” He winked. “I don’t know, I just find it kinda funny.” He shrugged. “If you don’t mind?”

“Surprisingly? Are mechanics supposed to make a lot of money?” Attis asked curiously, he was never one to truly discuss things like money or jobs or anything to do with that -maybe he should, it is after all an important aspect in a person’s life-. “Don’t tempt me Sean, I will make a list of every single Sean Patrick out there in the world -- famous and none-famous.” he joked -- or more like half joked, because he loved to make lists that could irritate a person, nothing malicious of course just a little bit of light hearted fun for an old guy like himself. “Oh I mind tremendously.” he said, sarcasm dripping off every word as he searched trough the catalog on the computer -technology sure made everything a ton simpler-. “We have it -- but I haven’t unpacked them yet. I’ll go get ya one from the back.” Attis said, already walking off to the storage behind the store. It took him a good minute before he was able to return with the book. “There you go.” 

“Well, I wouldn’t want to be friends with you just for that. I like you for you. Not your money.” He grinned, moving to look at his phone for a moment when he noticed someone liked him on Partnered. He winced a bit when he realized it was a girl and quickly swiped left. “I know, I know, but Sean Patrick! That’s my name too!” He laughed.

“Good thing, I’m not really wealthy so.” he chuckled lightly. “I know that’s your name Sean, there’s probably plenty of Sean’s and Patrick’s in the world.” he teased, grinning at the other. “You want me to check if your book is in?” 

“I keep forgetting all these good series! What about the spiderwick chronicles?” she asked, her face full of amusement. How was shopping for books the highlight of her day? “This kid changes his mind about what he’s into like he changes his clothes, which is all the time. I guess I could start with the first one and see how it goes. I’d rather not invest in the entire series for him to only read a few chapters before moving onto his next hobby.”

“Oh we definitely have the spiderwick chronicles, definitely recommend those of course. If you want I can make you an amazing little list, that way you can buy one book and if he sticks with reading you can come get another great book every time he ends up finishing one.” 

“Lieees, I have a few times! But you never told me!” He poked out his tongue, shifting his weight to another foot. “They really are. Right now I’m just thinkin’ of browsing in all honesty. Kinda wanna get Jane Two by Sean Patrick Flanery….Funnily enough, he’s got my name, minus the last name.” He snickered a little.

“I don’t want people to be friends with me just because I own a book store and assume I’m rich -- I’m not.” he chuckled. “We should have that one -- pretty sure a lot of people are named Sean, not a very rare name to have.” 

“I’d say he’s probably above his age. He’s pretty smart for a 7 year old. I’d love to see those books!” she smiled. “Oh my god, I can’t believe I forgot about Harry Potter! That won’t be to daunting of a task? reading the series?” She asked, not wanting to burn the kid out on reading so quickly.

“Well then I definitely recommend the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, even I enjoyed those -- he also has a few new series out which I recommend too.” he said. “It could be -- if it is he can always leave it for another day. But who knows, maybe he’ll love it. It’s worth testing” 

“Well damn! Congratulations! You ain’t never told me ‘bout this.” He chuckled as he looked around. “Just decided to pop in for a bit. I was taking a small walk after work and thought this place might be a good stress reliever.” He grinned. 

“You never asked.” Attis smirked, sitting down behind the counter and checking the computer for things like shipments. “Books are always great stress relievers. Are you looking for anything in particular? Or just browsing?” 

Cassie had just dropped the kids off at school and was sent to the bookstore to pick up some stuff for one of the kids she nannies for. He decided he loved reading on a whim the other day and wanted more books to read so here Cassie was going to her favorite store. Walking in she looked around for someone to help her. Hearing a voice she turned to the counter smiling. “I may need your help.” she laughed. “I’ve been sent to pick up books for a seven year old boy and I have no idea what to get.” she admitted, nervously. “Is diary of a whimpy kid still a thing? Captain Underpants? Goosebumps? I have no clue.”

“A seven year old boy -- well those books are definitely still a thing so you should try those. Does he tend to read for his age or up? I have a few books that are more aimed at children between nine and twelve but they can also be enjoyable for the younger and older crowd.” he smiled. “Then of course, there is also the Harry Potter series, definitely recommend seeing if he’s ready for those.” 

He was pacing around the store, making sure all books were in the correct positions as he heard the bell from someone entering, he quickly walked back to his place behind the desk. “Welcome, feel free to browse around, give me a shout if you need anything.” 

Sean was on his phone after work on Partnered. He sighed a little as he continued to swipe left on most of them. Until he got to Attis’ photo. He gave a slight smirk as he saw his old friend and crush on there and decided to swipe right. Maybe he’d see it and swipe right as well. He stood and shoved the phone back into his pocket before moving to take a long walk to clear his mind and relax a bit from work. He soon walked past the local book shop, not knowing Attis worked there. When he heard that familiar voice, he chuckled and gave a small smile. “Hey there, Atty. Didn’t know you were workin’ here now.” He teased playfully as he moved over to the desk.

Attis gave a slight grin at the familiar face, before nodding. “I actually own this place -- it’s my little pride and joy.” he said, lifting up his arms as to show off his precious, little, book shop. “What brings you in today Sean?” 

It was a couple of months after he’d signed up for partnered, and he was finally getting comfortable with the idea of it being a normal thing. He was sitting in his book store, knowing that around these hours there were barely any customers, there was a lonely little old lady in the corner why came by everyday just to sit and read with company. Attis took this little downtime to get everything in order -and to casually check the site, because who knows maybe someone hot matched with him?- 

He was pacing around the store, making sure all books were in the correct positions as he heard the bell from someone entering, he quickly walked back to his place behind the desk. “Welcome, feel free to browse around, give me a shout if you need anything.”

While Attis was pretty confident he had been a good father for his little girl by learning things to make sure he could give her the best growing up experience ever, there was always one fatal flaw in his parenting -- that being that he could not get himself to be mad at her even when he knew he should. He couldn’t tell her off or really punish her, mainly out of fear of her starting to hate him. It weighed on him that he had to rely on Theo so heavily for that side of raising Scout, but after years and years he still could not get himself to really raise his voice at her. 

So when he found the wallet that was clearly not hers he couldn’t help but let out a deep sigh. He was mad at her -- no he wasn’t, he was mildly frustrated as he waited to confront her about it. So he sat in her living room, waiting impatiently for her to be back. Once she got there he immediately asked how she got it. He hadn’t expected any positive answer -- but honestly he had hoped that maybe just maybe he had left it behind on accident after visiting her. Which was not the case, hell he’d even accept him sleeping with her and leaving it behind, not her stealing it though. 

He didn’t say much on their walk over to Theo, mainly because he couldn’t find the words. He kept thinking of things to say to her, to tell her off on but they never felt right. He pounded on Theo’s door. “You really -- just -- damnit. Theo I need your help!” he yelled as he pounded on the door again.
