âYour nose looks like a cherry tomato.âÂ
Kita snorts, hands deep in his pockets. His large, red scarf sits comfortably on his shoulders and covers half his face. Periodically, heâd bury his face into the comforting folds of his scarf for some heat. But with Atsumu so near, his head always tips upwards to get a better look at the man smirking down at him. He looks pleased, and itâs adorable in a way Kita prays heâll continue seeing in his lifetime.Â
âCute,â Atsumuâs cheeks are roses blooming under the evening sky. He leans forward, chomping his teeth as if heâs about to eat Kitaâs nose. âJuicy.âÂ
âDonât call my nose juicy.â
At the bus stop, time seems infinite and fleeting all at once. The crisp, November air seeps underneath Kitaâs clothes. His fingers twitch. They demand to touch Atsumu. To hold his hand or his hips or to slide underneath his jacket and the horribly ugly sweater he refuses to get rid of to touch his abdomen. Kita craves Atsumu in a way the cold canât freeze over. Heâs not sure how it got to this point. He leans forward, pressing his face against Atsumuâs chest. Secretly coveting the manner in which Atsumu slips his arms around his waist, holding him close.
âYou hate cherry tomatoes,â Kita murmurs as he inhales Atsumuâs scent, eyes shut. He feels the hearty chuckle of Atsumuâs laughter against his ear.Â
âTrue. I think Iâd like them more if they all looked like your nose.â
âYour flirting leaves a lot to desire.â
âI got you, didnât I?â
Kita pinches Atsumu on the side in response, causing Atsumu to yelp. He smiles in satisfaction against Atsumuâs chest.Â
November is cold. But Atsumu is warm.Â
âNext month then?â Kita says after a while. The bus is slated to come in about ten minutes. They know this routine by heart now. Waiting precious minutes, soaking up each otherâs presence, until Atsumu boards the bus back to his college a good hour and a half away. Long distance is hard. The heart yearns. The heart aches. Kitaâs fingers curl into the fabric of Atsumuâs chest. Time spent with Atsumu is precious, of course.Â
But when itâs time to part? It feels like a part of him leaves with Atsumu with every goodbye.Â
Atsumu presses a kiss to Kitaâs head and squeezes him tight, âDuh. After finals Iâm coming back home and itâll be you and me.â Atsumu has such a way of speaking about them with such finality. It makes the ache hurt a little less.Â
The bus comes after they make plans to talk more about next month. Atsumu holds onto Kita for a few extra minutes underneath the protective cover of the bus stop awning.Â
âEat a cherry tomato and think of me,â Kita leans back a bit so he can get a good look at Atsumuâs face. âI love you,â he says quieter, softer. A tinge of shyness colors his words.Â
Atsumu eats his love with a kiss on the mouth, lingers afterwards. The cold of November disappears from the warmth of their love. âIt wouldnât be the same.â He kisses Kita again. Kita leans into the kiss and savors. âLove you.â
Kita watches as Atsumu boards the bus. Takes his seat. And presses his hand to the glass making the most obscene kissy faces Kitaâs ever scene. Itâs horrendous. Itâs endearing.Â
He prays December is just as kind to them as November was. Even if they could only be with each other for a brief time.Â
