He describes the man as a "small dick panic" and an insecure freak.

Even though Lane is an insecure loser himself, he's still capable of recognizing certain things. That's why I don't think he's the type to strip away someone's identity or force them to love him if they don't. Being in a relationship is different from simply being friends or just knowing someone.

So while Lane might not immediately dive into the deeper meaning of the movie, like Niki's struggle with losing control over her own life because of a selfish wish from a pathetic loser, he'd instantly hate Bear and probably hate the entire movie for that reason alone. He's more self-aware than people give him credit for.

His reaction would probably come more from common sense than from fully understanding every layer of the story, but he'd still recognize the pattern.

As for BB, I think he'd react similarly and hate Bear because, in his eyes, Bear never deserved Niki (MC), and never deserved anyone. He views Bear as a man with no honour. When it comes to Niki's struggle, I think he'd naturally compare it to MC being in the same situation. Whether he'd truly understand that part though, would depend entirely on the dynamic MC has with him in their relationship.

He wouldn't suddenly become some controlling freak or go full on yandere mode without a very specific reason, and that reason would have to be something extremely serious. MC simply having her own life wouldn't make BB want to control her. Because of that, he'd never intentionally put MC in the same position Niki was in.

In his mind, he'd believe he and Bear are nothing alike, so MC would never end up in the same situation with him.

So if he showed up with flowers, I could see it being because it's just common sense to him, or because the guys at SLM told him.
