Rekindling the Flames: AMP 2nd GA
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Very few events have the capacity to illicit a resurgence of memories from a person; events or occurrences so strong that they force you to look back and embed meaning into a memory that you perhaps didnāt even notice before. Standing there, on the roofdeck of MVP, taking in all there was to take in from ((aMp))ās 2nd GA, I could recall my first few months of college. The prospect of signing up for orgs seemed so new; frighteningly new, in fact. When I chose my organizations, I filled my head with silent promises, all saying how I would do my best for this organization and that I would remain active no matter what. The first few months are the easiest, of course. Thereās always time to waste, and youād figure, why not waste it on some of my organizations? But as time passes, things get heavier, and heavier, until you, without your notice, start to break the promises you made to yourself at the start of it all. You straighten your priorities, and you realize that some of those things donāt quite fit in, so you drop them; you sweep them under the rug, hoping one day theyād go away. They do, eventually. Weāve all been there; we all know what itās like to have something that seems so important and then gradually lose interest, and weāre left wondering how something that seemed so important at the time seem so meaningless now?
As irrelevant as all this might seem, thereās actually a point to this little ramble of mine. See, as I stood there observing various antics that were pulled in ((aMp))ās 2nd GA, it became clear to me why I never felt that way about ((aMp)), not even once, and itās because of events such as these. Even though it seems like weāve already accomplished so much in this past semester, this second GA is basically ((aMp))ās way of saying āWeāre not done yetā; suffice to say, ((aMp)) has a knack for it.
Ā I suppose a succinct description of the entire event would be⦠intense. It started off with a few songs from Kaleidoscope Eyes, which seemed to get the crowd in the mood. Then, our very own President David Lina took macho man strides towards the stage for a well-spoken opening speech. But to give credit where it is due, part of the eventās success is due to the two hosts; our very own RJ Dimla, who made use of his debonair charms to try and woo every single woman that stepped foot on the stage, and JC Del Mundo, whom I hope finds happiness with his yellow-clad mystery woman.
When the time came for everyone to push the chairs back and play a game, things started to get intense. Perhaps the best analogy I could use to illustrate just how intense the game, and the entire GA, was, is the āEye of the Tigerā tableau of the Prod department; a boxing fight so intense that even the referee had to take his shirt off.
When all the mayhem had died down, and when all the projects such as AMPlitude, AMPlitube, AMPlitunes, Soloist Night, and of course, the Recital had been thoroughly discussed, Last Minute took the stage and put everyone in a trance with their music while the sign-ups began. Honestly speaking, if the goal of the GA was to give everyone a wake-up call; to get them all riled up and screaming ā((aMp)) is still alive and kickingā, then I would gladly suppose that the goal was achieved. And perhaps itās the melodramatic romanticist in me thatās to blame for my rambling earlier on, and perhaps itās also that very side of me that connects seemingly invisible lines and draws meanings from imperceptible symbols, but thereās just something about the second GA that was very much like an open flame; enveloping and igniting whatever is caught in it. An apt metaphor, in my opinion, seeing as it managed to rekindle a certain something inside all those who present at the MVP Rooftop, on the 23rd night of November; it managed to reignite our passion for ((aMp)); to refuel our lAMP. Yes, I went there.

h((aMp))y birthday!
Earth, Wind, and Fire really werenāt joking when they asked if you remember the 21st night of September. It seemed like poetic justice to the lyrics that H((aMp))py Birthday was celebrated during this night with all that happened during that unforgettable night.
The sweet 16th of the Ateneo Musiciansā Pool, as with all other 16th birthday shindigs, has been planned and prepared for way in advance. It has been THE BIG EVENT where everyone pitched in from making invitation loot bags, to singing and screaming for the sake of promoting at the red brick road, to hanging banderitas and streamers, and to contacting sponsors and tech teams; everyone helped out. It was one of those events where you could truly see how united as an organization AMP is; but more than that, how much of a family it has become. And it seems to grow bigger and bigger as it has ramified to other organizations as the event was also AMPās way of showing to the Loyola Schools community that AMP Not Dead, a propaganda created during the former years of the organization.
Ā Ā The sweltering heat of the day raised concerns to possible rain that could occur during the event, but by divine intervention (and wind changes), not a single drop fell on the party going on. People enjoyed great music from bands like Last Minute, Sheās Only Sixteen, and alumni bands such as Nanay Mo, Verbacoma, Fuzz, Conscious & The Goodness, The Out of Body Special, and Never The Strangers. As they played their songs, more people came to listen, to dance, and to rock out the night away. There was never a loss of people all throughout the five hour event.Ā

There was also never a loss of prizes to give away through games spearheaded by the Forest Candelaria, JC Del Mundo, and Bert Santos, the hosts for the event.

The bands brought out the music, but the hosts brought out the laughs. Everyone truly had a great time interacting and listening to stories and messages from the president, the past presidents, and even Sir Yagi.

Everything went amazingly and the Ateneo Musiciansā Poolās 16th birthday party truly ended up being one of the sweetest birthdays to remember, even MTV has got nothing on it.

EVERYONE'S INVITED!!!!Ā
Rites of Passage 2012: Charity Chorus
RITES of Passage was a "hats off and passed around" success. Hats off because the most promising musicians of the Ateneo Musicians' Pool (AMP) played the best and finest tunes, and hat passed around because that was actually one thing the attendees did--pass the hat.
Besides the literal hat-passing activity to obtain donations, the whole gig itself was a giant donation endeavor. AMP, in cooperation with the Sanggunian ng Mga Mag-aaral ng Ateneo de Manila and the Council of the Organizations of the Ateneo, decided to transform their first fundraising activity into a benefit gig. All proceeds from the gig was accorded to the victims of the flood caused by the Habagat phenomenon.
Luzon endured Habagat for three days, and the masses was gravely affected by the overwhelming weather disturbance. It caused floods and landslides that led many to lose their homes, belongings, and some, even their loved ones.
Proving that they're "bigger than the sound", AMP was present during the three days of relief operations at Ateneo. Besides packing goods and delivering them, AMP also played alleviating music from time to time to the volunteers, rendering music more than just a pleasurable ear experience, and more a motivator.
And after all those three days at the Ateneo Project Noah operations, AMP decided to fully dedicate their time, talent and effort in helping out the victims by making Rites of Passage a benefit gig.
For that evening of August 11 at Katips bar, AMP unveiled its fresh bands for the year. The line up is as follows:
Ā Ā Fire Underwater
(with Argyll Bongosia "Argyll", Xyrus Sims "Slidey", Franco Revilla "Franco", and Carlo Montenegro "Carlo")
Ā Luigi's Fun Land
(Soloist Group 1 with: Mare Collantes, Jenny Lapus, David Lina, Elora Que, Gab Cabangon, Richie Velarde, and Luigi Puno)
Ā Last Minute
(with: Miles Malferrari "Miles", Harradier Isnani "Rad", Jackie Francisco "Jackie", Daryll Penafiel "Bo", and Ariel Valdez "Ariel")
Ā Any Way The Wind Blues Trio
(with: Forest Candelaria "Forest", Anton Rodriguez "Anton", Miguel OrdoƱez "Ordy", Raphael Obias "Waffles", and Patrick Arcellana "Patrick")
Ā Soloist Band 2
(with: David Lina, Andrew De Pano, Zachary Riskin, JB Lava, Joshua Blay, and Joseph Aurelio)
Ā End Goliath
(with: David Tan "David", Daniel Quiaoit "Dan"m, Sam Wijangco "Sam", RJ Dimla "RJ", and Raf Marquez "Raf")
Ā Bait & Switch
(with: Mic AvendaƱo, Dondie Alampay, Jolo Carrera, Maynard De Guzman, Nash Ignacio, Miguel OrdoƱez, and Francis Victa)
Ā Surprise Acts
Dressed up Days and Never the Strangers
Ā Being part of the gig's audience was truly heartwarming: AMP was in chorus with its audience for charity. As the people joined in, grooved along and sang their hearts out, they were also able to contribute to a bigger project beyond Katips bar and the Ateneo Covered Courts. AMP broadened its music and influence by incorporating into it a purpose, which allowed everyone the opportunity to touch the hearts of those others who are in need. Now who wouldn't be motivated to hit, strum and shout a little harder with that?
And remember: this is just the first in the roster of concerts and gigs by the Ateneo Musicians' Pool.Ā
