“Levy,” he breathed as the hole worked him open again, leaving the edges of his nerves painfully exposed to the open air. “I can’t—”

Can’t what? He thought. Can’t lose her? She was never yours.

“Hey,” Levy shushed as she sat beside him, placing a calming hand on the expanse of his forearm. With her warm palm pressed over the studs that marked his flesh, he couldn’t help but compare her unmarred skin to his own.

“It’s okay,” she breathed as she began to slowly drag her hand over his arm in a reassuring manner, each stroke leaving a line of fire that left ash in its wake. “We’ll be okay tomorrow. We always are.”

And then she smiled.

Starlight only ever wished it was so bright.

“Besides,” her fingers brushed against the cuff of his gloves. “I’ll be there at your side. You aren’t alone, Gajeel. Not in this.”

;First Snow

Some post-manga goodness.

The first dusting of snow came in an instant. Chunks of white skittered across pavements, weaving a trail that sparkled among the stone. The paths were slippery, so Levy insisted on making every motion count. Unfortunately, her swollen ankles had no intention of guiding her in the right direction. She’d barely made it two steps when a familiar hand caught her arm, steadying her beside the road. Gajeel pulled her towards him before taking her gloved hand and giving it a firm squeeze.

‘Careful,’ he said, righting her when she slipped a second time. 

‘I’m sorry.’ Levy glimpsed a crowd at the end of the street – tourists gathering for Fairy Tail’s latest festival. ‘I just didn’t want to miss anything.’

A string of musical instruments echoed a few streets away, a sound gentle yet imposing, and growing louder by the second. 

‘This is exhausting.’ Gajeel searched Levy’s eyes for a long moment. ‘It was bad enough worrying about you. Now I’ve got three of you stressing me out.’

Levy couldn’t help but laugh at his statement. Her free hand made its way to her belly, where she caressed the large bump stretching the fabric of her sweater. 

‘It’s not my fault you insisted on doing it so much that night,’ she teased, waiting for his frost-bitten face to darken just that little more. ‘You’d think two babies would weight me to the ground but instead they’ve left my swollen and clumsy.’

Gajeel bowed his head. ‘I’m sorry, Levy.’

Levy smacked his arm in a playful manner. ‘What are you talking about? There’s nothing to be sorry about. Besides, next year it’ll be your turn to carry the twins to the festival.’

Gajeel’s eyes lit up as though a fire now burned in his skull, illuminating every thought that stirred in his mind. He smiled, then his lips quivered. Tears trickled onto his face.

‘G-Gajeel?! I’m supposed to be the emotional one, remember? Hormones and–’

He kissed her.

Levy’s heart fluttered as it always did at Gajeel’s spontaneous gestures of love. Their relationship had turned physical quickly, but it was these moments, the gentle touch of his lips and the caress of his hands, that left her feeling dangerously weak. He was such a big man, strong and terrifying to anyone who got in his way, but to Levy, well, he was soft as the first snow. 

‘Come on,’ she said, ‘we shouldn’t keep Lily waiting.’

‘Where did he go, anyway?’ Gajeel asked.

Levy grinned. ‘He’s part of the festival this year. He’s taking your place on the float, Gajeel.’

Gajeel snorted at that. ‘Nobody can replace me, Levy. I’m one of a kind.’

‘Not anymore,’ she reminded him. ‘At least one of these babies is going to take after you.’

‘What if they both take after you?’ Gajeel pressed.

‘They’ll take after both of us,’ Levy told him. ‘After all, we’re their parents, they’re bound to pick up some of our habits.’

‘They’ll be unstoppable,’ Gajeel said, looking temporarily overwhelmed by this revelation.

‘Unstoppable?’ 

Gajeel took her hands and squeezed them, his eyes still glistening with tears. ‘Levy! If those babies have your smarts and my brawn they’ll be the best wizards in all of Fiore! No, all of Earthland! We’re the perfect team.’

Levy blinked back tears of her own. ‘Oh, Gajeel. You really are a softy.’

‘I’m just sayin’ it like it is.’

Levy nodded. ‘Let’s go,’ she said. ‘They’re getting impatient.’

‘They kicking again?’

Levy shook her head. ‘They’re just moving a little. I think they’re excited to see everyone again.’

The music boomed towards the end of the street, signalling the passing of the parade. 

‘We’re missing it!’ Levy panicked.

Gajeel swept her into his arms. ‘Then we’d better hurry! Tell those babies to hold on tight.’

‘What about their mother?!’ Levy gasped, snaking her arms around his neck.

While the conversation surrounding Cuphead’s difficulty has probably hyped it up to a point over and above what it actually is (the game is challenging but not so much that you should be afraid of trying it or anything) using DDR pads is just a whole other level.

There was always something about Levy that amazed Gajeel.From her kindness and

How forgiving she could be, to how strong and resilient shewas as well. There was always something about Levy Mcgarden that kept Gajeel onhis toes, and he loved that about her.

Every day was an adventure with her.

And this wasn’t any different.

This was the moment Gajeel truly realized that his wife wasso much stronger than he was as he walked into the hospital room and seeing herlaying there slightly pale and asleep as well. He had just come from seeing thebabies in the nursery and despite the difficult birth they were perfect andhealthy.

All because of her.

Slowly Gajeel made his way into the room and sat in one ofthe chairs next to the bed. He sighed as he looked at her, face framed with herunruly blue hair that he reached out to brush against her forehead smiling tohimself when her eyes scrunched up but she continued to sleep.

It was a difficult birth, something they were or try toprepare for but you can never really truly be prepared for such things. It wastruly like Gajeel’s life had stopped seeing her in pain and rushed from him tothe operating room, or it seemed that well Gajeel’s memory on it all was fuzzystill since everything happened so fast.

But all that mattered now she was okay and the babies wereokay.

But just when did his wife become more badass than him?

It was the thought that crossed his mind as he watched heropen her eyes slowly and then again, slowly taking her surroundings in beforeher eyes went wide and she tried to, sorely, sit up in the bed as she lookedaround and then finally noticing Gajeel.

“Hey,” she whispered her voice slightly hoarse as she gavehim a small smile her hand reached out and grabbed his large one. “EverythingOkay?” in which Gajeel only responded by taking the hand that she was holdingand turning slightly so he could lean down and kiss her hand before looking upat her.

“Everything’s perfect,” he grinned as she sighed her eyesclosing, “Just admirin’ my badass wife.” He murmured which caused Levy to laughslightly as she looked at him, her big brown eyes connecting with his red onesand it felt good to hear that considering just hours before he wondered if heever would again.

“That’s a funny thing to say.” Levy laughed, her handreached up and covered her mouth, but as she looked at Gajeel again hisexpression was more serious as he moved closer in which he stood up and leaneddown to where they could have their foreheads touch.

“It’s true.” And Levy closed her eyes as he said that givinga contented sigh as her hands reached up and cupped his face as she opened hereyes again giving him a smile.

“Well then,” she let go of his face as she said this, “yourbadass wife would like to see her babies now.” In which Gajeel stumbledslightly as he moved towards the door not seeing Levy push the button to callthe nurse, only thing Levy could do as she watched her frazzled husband waslaugh at him as she shook her head in amusement.

It seemed hours passed before the nurses wheeled the twobabies in which caused Levy to stiffen slightly as she looked at them. Pink andso very small with tuffs of blue hair sticking up, they both in the samehospital cradle their arms intertwined, and all Levy could do was cry as shelooked at them, it seemed like the whole world had stopped in that moment.

She didn’t notice Gajeel sit on the bed and his hand overhers, or the fact his own eyes were watering up.

“Told ya yer were badass.” He finally said breaking thesilence as Levy laughed.
