I remember sounds like that from my childhood. Laughter with no cause, simply because the world is beautiful, something like that

All the way back to the very beginning of Gabriel's memories they are filled with experiences at Adventureland and, later, Astroland. He remembers the sounds of the games, the whoosh of a roller coaster flying by, the smell of fried dough and french fries. He remembers chasing after his brothers, weaving through the crowds to get into lines and try to obtain the best seats on the rides. There were days where he was bouncing in his seat trying to finish up his homework at the kitchen table so he could run off to the park before it closed for a couple hours. The park was almost more familiar to him than home, because it was his home. At least, once upon a time it had been.
That June will forever be burned into Gabe's memory, the year Hector disappeared. It was only a week or so after he'd turned fourteen and he'd been so excited to finally start working beside his older brothers, even if he was only allowed a short amount of time and only certain roles at the park that were deemed 'safe'. But he didn't mind - all he wanted was to work the games alongside Hector and Jay, and how could working a games booth be unsafe? Especially if Jay was there. He had always looked up to the both of them (not only because he was shorter) and thought they were the coolest guys ever.
He never did get the job.
But even worse, he never saw Hector again. He remembers Jay coming home late, voices raising and tinged with concern that drew him from his bed. Hearing that Hector had run away didn't make any sense because, as far as Gabe was concerned, there wasn't any reason he ever would. He refused to believe it, just as Jay did. But he was still young and barred from taking part in much of the search efforts, though he found his own ways to take part. He rode his bike around town as if he might find Hector or Jay's car set up on the side of the road somewhere waiting to be found.
When it was found it didn't come with any answers. If anything, it just left him with more questions. What was Hector doing there in the first place? Where did he go? Why? For a while he was solely focused on finding out, but with time and more dead ends, he eventually had to let it go. Money was tight and he had to start bringing some in, especially with Astroland seeming to be standing on it's last legs.
He started working at the local comic and games shop as a cashier. It didn't make a whole lot, but he enjoyed it - and he didn't ask for much, really. In his spare time he started lending his time to Helping Hands as well. Perhaps it was because he wanted to fill his hours with something useful - better than being lost within his own thoughts that inevitably went back to Hector time and again. And maybe he hoped one day he might see Hector there, and he could bring him home. It wasn't impossible that something happened, that he couldn't remember where he belonged, that he just needed a reminder. It wasn't impossible. Gabe would always be an optimist even in the most unlikely of situations, but as the years go by he knows, deep down, how unlikely it really is.

Javier’s childhood was never short of love, that much could be said to be true. But surrounded by siblings who excelled in an assortment of different areas and parents who had their own opinions on how their children should be, it didn’t take long for Javier to feel as if he were falling behind in some manner or another, never quite living up to expectations. He didn’t excel in school, didn’t have natural ‘book smarts’ that seemed to come so easily to some of his siblings. He wasn’t naturally inclined to throw himself into the military and protect people he had no real connection to, or put his own life on the line against others for some bigger than him purpose.
So he rebelled. He refused to entertain his father’s whims of ultra survivalist necessity in the world they lived in, barely absorbing the random bouts of 'knowledge’ he spewed. He broke curfew more often than not, stayed out late nights with friends passing a joint or a bottle of beer. He would sneak back in through his bedroom window, left cracked open for just that purpose - as if it might help him escape his mother’s fury. Some nights he would simply stay out all night long, hooking up with his girl friend or finding somewhere else to while away the hours.
One thing that did stick in Javier’s head from his childhood, however, was the love and importance of family. As much as he might have been a thorn in their sides or a worry in the back of their mind, Javi was always there when his siblings needed him, in one way or another. In general, he looked out for his family - even if he wasn’t inherently the best at it. He’s protective of them, loyal to them - and would go to any lengths necessary to make sure they’re taken care of.
Javier’s wife became one of those critical people in his life, too. He fell hard and fast at a young age, and they’d decided to marry not long after graduating school because - well, what was the point in waiting? They knew what they had with each other was something special and wanted to form a family of their own. He got a job working as a mechanic at the local auto shop, taking on long hours to make a nice nest egg for his future family. The couple began trying for a child, or children, but their relationship started to crumble bit by bit as their attempts at conceiving a baby proved futile. After investing money in several rounds of treatment and getting excited for a coming child only to lose the dream once again - it weighed heavily on both of their shoulders.
Taking on extra shifts at the auto shop and working longer nights in an attempt to make up the money they’d spent, Javier found it more and more difficult to return home knowing they had lost another child - and knowing that his wife probably needed his support now more than ever before and he couldn’t seem to figure out how to provide it. Instead, it was far easier to throw himself into work than let himself feel. Not to mention, he missed her. He missed what they’d once had before all of this. It felt as if they’d put their entire relationship on hold and that with all their attempts to conceive, they’d distanced from one another. He missed their casual affection - and by accident, he found it in someone else. It had been a mistake as soon as it happened; just a random woman in a bar that gave him that affection he’d been craving from his wife for seemingly too long.
Javi planned to tell her as soon as it happened, but by the time he got up the courage, she was pregnant and the time simply didn’t seem right. Then the days turned to weeks, turned to months - and the secret spoiled on his tongue. He didn’t want to submit her to any unnecessary stress by bringing it up. Besides, it had only been a one time mistake. It hadn’t meant anything. He loved his wife, his family. But of course, such ugly secrets had a way of getting out. He’s not even sure how she found out, but how didn’t matter so much as what came next. She’d kicked him out of the house, refused to see or hear him out. Time passed, slipping through his fingers, as he tried to pick up the pieces and put his relationship back together again. But the pieces no longer seemed to fit. The harder he pushed, the more she pulled away. He ended up moving in with his elder brother, Santiago, in Intercept, New Mexico for a time when it seemed that repairing his relationship may not be possible.
He's beginning to make a name for himself here, even if it doesn't feel like home. He has his family, somehow he thinks they would always take him in no matter what horrible things he'd done, but he doesn't have her - and it has been difficult for him to overcome that pain. He drowns it out in work and in the bottom of a liquor bottle - and sometimes when that doesn't help, he seeks harder substances to cope.
Cheers to the nights that turned into mornings and the friends who turned into family

Digging Deeper.
Growing up in Intercept wasn't the easiest hand to be dealt. The place was practically falling apart at the seams even before Kodi came into the picture, and the alien rebranding slapped over the entire town's identity didn't really help revive it. But it did bring Kodi to life in some strange, unexpected ways. They became obsessed with the extraterrestrial, researching and studying everything and anything they could get their hands on from a young age. 1947 UFO crash stories from Chaves County? Have a seat, they would tell you everything about them. Conspiracy theories? Kodi's got a laundry list of 'em.
So it was only fitting that in the rebranding of Adventurland into Astroland, Kodi was one of the first kids bouncing up and down in the ticket line for entry. At only around ten years old she may have only just started dipping her toe in the alien obsession, but she was already dragged into it by hook, line, and sinker. For years they spent every waking hour they could wandering around the rebranded theme park, probably single-handedly providing at least some revitalizing financing (much to their parent's chagrin). There may have been more than a few times they found a loose place in the fences or an employee that was willing to look the other way so that they could make their way in without spending a dime - and perhaps a handful of times that they were dragged out by the collar for it, too.
It was only natural that they weaseled their way into a job at the park, almost certainly conning patrons out of their money for the trill of the games they hosted. Was it possible to land a ring on the neck of a coke bottle or collapse the entire tower of milk jugs with one throw of a baseball? Sure it was. Did Kodi have a hand in making it even more challenging from time to time - if not impossible? They wouldn't ever tell. But they sure had fun doing it.
The fact that the park is slowing down is crushing, but they do what they can to support it by singing its praises on Black Hole Radio whenever they can. Is anyone even listening? Who knows, but Kodi is your go to for all late night conspiracy discussions - and the occasional top hit recommendation or two from time to time. Lately with all the odd happenings around the park and Intercept as a whole, there certainly isn't a lack of content.

CONNIE HAS NEVER BEEN very good at, say, loosening up. she still felt such a crick on her neck from her work earlier that day -- and yet, she was determined to have some amount of fun at this thing. make some memories with her family. their mother had worked so hard to make sure that they were as tight-knit as they possibly could be, even if they had made their own lives. when connie had given her brother a job -- there was some amount of nervousness that it would change things. maybe he thought he could get away with more sometimes and in a way, he did. it didn't stop her from enjoying spending time with him. thus, the attempt at dragging him in the direction of the game. " are you scared i'm going to whoop your ass or something? " connie teases in her usual sisterly way. the boss act seems to drop the moment they leave the building, something that's become easier overtime. " or do we have to make it serious? " put money on it? she could feel the stress of her day becoming far less prevalent, like she was dropping her bags at the door when she got home in the evening.
Taking a job working for his sister had never been on Javier's bingo card. But then again, neither had crashing in his brother's home for a stretch of time or living in bumfuck nowhere New Mexico, either, and yet...Here he fucking was. He wasn't sure if there was much lower he could've slipped at this point.
"Scared?" Javier repeats with a snort as Connie taunts him, head shaking to counter her words. "At some stupid carnival game? Nah." His hands tuck into his pockets as he follows in her footsteps, kicking the toe of his boot against the pavement. As she goes on he just blinks. "You know what you pay me. I barely got a dime to my name." He was only here because he'd been put on shift working maintenance for the holiday - and at least he was making some holiday pay in that regard. Otherwise he wouldn't be caught dead playing these stupid ass games. Wack-an-alien? What even was that? Other than wholly ridiculous, anyway. At least it was something he could take his frustrations out on without being looked at sideways.
But hey, maybe he can make a few extra bucks off her today, too. "What terms are you thinkin'?"

who : gabe osorio ( @astrostellcr ) ∘ where : the retro rocket diner
❝ you going to see the fireworks tonight? ❞ it's an honest question, even if jay half-suspects he already knows how his younger brother will answer. working at astroland might have been an osorio family tradition for decades, but all of that seemed to fall apart after―well, jay's sure he can't be blamed if he doesn't actually want to think about it right now. if he doesn't want to think about him. he's still got one brother right here to worry about, right in front of him. once their dad retired, jay was the only one left working at astroland. and the only reason he went back was because they needed the money ; if he could've found a better job somewhere else, he would've taken it. he couldn't. ❝ you could get in for free if you wanted to. i've got to be at wolfe's den later or i'd go with you, but i know who's working the turnstiles tonight, i could make a call. ❞
jay glances toward the window to the kitchen behind the diner counter and then to the clock on the wall above it. he's got to be at the bar in less than an hour, actually, but he tries to check in with gabe as often as he can. it's still not as often as he'd like, but he is trying. weeks like these where he's scheduled to work double after double, he tries to meet him for coffee or, in this case, dinner. the food at the diner's cheap enough, anyway, and if his regulars tonight are feeling generous, he'll make more than their meals' worth back in tips before long.
❝ what are you getting? ❞ jay asks after a moment, turning the conversation back toward easier territory. safer. ❝ i think i'm gonna get a burger. ❞ as if he ever orders anything else.
"The fireworks? Hadn't really thought about it," Gabriel admitted honestly, his shoulders lifting. He didn't have anything else going on for the holiday - not if Jay was busy. He could swing by his parents, see what they were up to, check in...but otherwise? "You gotta work tonight? Really? The place doesn't close on a holiday?" There were probably plenty of places that stayed open on independence day, actually, probably plenty of people who were seeking a stool at the bar. Actually, it sounded better to hang out there with Jay than go to the fireworks, alone. But he wasn't that lame. Instead he'd probably just turn in early. As if that were better.
"You're gunna get a burger," Gabe repeats, a smile curving across his expression. "Shocker." Even so, a burger does sound good, so he can't really complain about his brother's choice. Though he could stand to branch out a little. "I don't know, I might go for something different. Maybe the chicken sandwich? That's usually pretty good." His eyes return to his brother, considering him. "You doing alright? I mean, not gunna do any good if you work yourself to death. Maybe you should take the night off."
Days like today would be categorized under one of Mingyu's favorite days of the year, if it hadn't been a workday. There was something cruel about being stuck behind a stand with a perfect view of at least three rides that he couldn't get on. Sure, the pay was good, but aside from that, the only thing that made up for his sweet smelling prison was the amount of people in the park. Gyu was used to very quiet days, especially the rainy ones were long and boring. But at least today Astroland seemed to be bustling with people eager to bring their kids somewhere for free.
( And what was better than unsupervised kids? Unsupervised kids on a sugar rush. It reminded him of his own childhood — careless, fearless, bound to get into accidents. )
"What can I get you today? We have fresh, extra-terrestrial popcorn, galactic cotton candy clouds, M&Ms from Mars, spaceship worthy Skittles- You know what? Can I interest you in our limited edition Icee? It is guaranteed to stain your tongue for the rest of the day, so you can convince the aliens you're one of them! I tested it."
He stuck out his tongue as proof, showing off the bright blue color. "I drank it two hours ago. Can you believe it?"
Astroland was not a place Gabriel made a habit of visiting. Not since...everything changed. Not since Hector. He wasn't sure why, really. It wasn't as if Astroland took his brother away (right? Or was it somehow involved? Could a place really be the cause of a disappearance? But - no, Jay said he'd seen Hector left, took his keys - and his car had ended up miles away, abandoned...). There was just something about it. Astroland was then. This is now.
So no, he wasn't a frequenter of Astroland. He preferred his quiet corner at the comic store, or maybe perusing the tapes at Blockbuster, or spending time at Wolfe's Den with Jay. He wasn't really much of a drinker, but Jay spent more time there than most anywhere else. Well, there...or Astroland...
Still, he wasn't sure how he'd ended up at the park. Maybe it was just some draw because everyone was there and everyone was talking about it. He wasn't even sure what he was supposed to do here, anymore. He supposed the games could be fun. Maybe a snack --
"Oh, uh," Gabe's eyes rove over the menu board like it might have some answers to explain everything the guy is telling him. "Are they just - uh - what makes the popcorn...extra-terrestrial...?" He asks, though his voice falters off a little towards the end as Mingyu continues. His eyes widen a little at the flash of blue tongue. "Is that...safe?"

astroland had long stopped trying to stop santiago from bringing in outside food and beverage ( he could also bribe security with a plate anyways ), so he had prepared a full on feast in two oversized picnic baskets complete with sides and dessert ( along with adult and everyone beverages in a rather large cooler ). he arrived at the park with everything early so he could push some of the picnic tables together and save a spot for all of his people. a good spot to see the fireworks and still be as secluded as you could be at an amusement park at least half full of people.
"hey! there's mi hermano!" santiago's face lit up when he saw javier approach. "i wasn't sure if linds was going to convince you to take a break," he held out his arms for a hug but didn't wait to pull his brother into his arms for a tight squeeze and pulled away to give javier a hearty pat on the back. "i hope you haven't eaten yet, we have all sorts of things left. please help yourself. how are you? are things very busy?" santiago's warm gaze worried over his brother for a moment, checking if he was okay. "are you taking time to rest?"
Had Javier thought about ditching the whole fireworks thing? Definitely. No one would actually miss him anyway and they'd probably be better without. But he'd found himself on that side of the park and he was sure Santiago would sense him within range, or something. He always seemed to have some fuckin' spidey sense, even when they were kids. It proved true when he'd barely started in his eldest brother's direction that his eyes lifted to find him.
He held up a hand as if to say something along the lines of yeah, yeah, calm the fuck down to Santiago's excitement, huffing a breath of annoyance as he was pulled into an embrace against his will (not that he entirely resisted, either). "I was...in the area," he mumbles when he's finally released, his fingers combing through his hair. He looks over the spread Santiago had been setting up, his head shaking the slightest bit as a subtle smile upturns the corner of his lips. "How is it you manage something like this in an amusement park? Usually they charge you up the ass making you purchase their shit food with five times markup and don't exactly support outside vendors." Granted, if anyone would be able to pull it off, it was Santiago.
"Mierda, stop it," he scowls, giving Santiago a (gentle) shove on the shoulder as he worried over him. "It's all fine. Don't worry about it."

❝ i swear t'christ, trying to get yer entire family all in one spot is like trying t'herd feckin' cats. ❞ by now, it is in fact lindsay's family, too, but he suspects that of the entire muñoz clan, javier might be the least inclined to say so. he's won over the rest of santiago's siblings well enough ( and by that, he means he suspects they tolerate him ) but javier has always seemed an almost perfect opposite of his older brother―prickly in places where santiago is soft. perhaps that's why he and lindsay seem to grate on each other so often : they're too much alike. at very least, that's what santi would say. it's what he says about why lindsay argues with maisie so much. he doesn't see it. he doubts javier would either. ❝ actually, i take it back. cats would be easier. ❞
lindsay crosses his arms over his chest, leaning against a lamp post as he regards the younger muñoz curiously.
❝ wasn't sure if ye'd be working today or not. neither was santi. i take it ye are. ❞ at least, lindsay doesn't think javier would walk around wearing an astroland maintenance shirt on his day off. ❝ think ye could sneak off a few minutes t'watch the fireworks with yer family? santiago has a table with a good view, i picked up connie and nora. might make 'em all happy if ye made an appearance. ❞
It had been quite a while since Javier had seen the park up and running like it was today, which meant that it should be keeping him busy. Yet he was paused between treks across the park, a cigarette hanging from between his lips, leaned up against the side of one of the concession stands as he blew out a puff of smoke. Leave it to Lindsay to be capable of tracking him down in the middle of fuckin' nowhere Astroland despite that. "Yet here you are," he murmured in acknowledgement to Lindsay's words before the cigarette found home between his lips again.
"What gave you that idea?" Javier remarks with a roll of his eyes before glancing down at the maintenance outfit he was forced into to be employed at this fucking place. "I love to wear this shit." It sounds just like Santi to be getting the whole gang together for fireworks, though Javier's not so sure about the statement that it would make anyone happy if he made an appearance. He can't think up any excuse quickly enough, though - the park would mostly be closed by the time the firework show was getting set up, and if there was any maintenance that was needed - well, perhaps it would be right there at the firework show, anyway. He was no pyrotechnic or whatever, but he wouldn't be surprised if he or Judah were wrangled in should something go awry...
He ashes the cigarette, shoulders lifting. "You never know what might go to shit around here in the meantime. But I can try and show."

❝ oh shit, what are you doing here? ❞ to be fair, judah shouldn't be surprised when he finds javier hanging out near the park's maintenance shed. he was supposed to be the one on shift today ( he'd even volunteered for it, he wanted that holiday pay ) but park management fumbled and put him on that busted ass dunk tank that tore up his palm and forced him to not only visit first aid but also file an official incident report. the only good news? the office where he had to fill out all that goddamn paperwork was air-conditioned. a high price to pay for a short reprieve from the heat, but judah would take what he could get.
❝ did they call you in or something? i told 'em i could still work, not like i need two hands to hold a wrench so long as they don't try to put me back in the dunk tank. ❞ the other ride tech lifts his left hand by way of wordless explanation ; the appendage is wrapped in ( what judah thinks is frankly an excessive amount of ) gauze from knuckles to wrist. judah wiggles his fingers and shrugs. ❝ but i guess it's some sort of policy or some shit, 'cause they gave me the rest of the day off. ❞
his other hand holds an icee with a heavy pour from the flask in his back pocket. he swirls the half-melted drink around a bit before crackling off the lid and holding it out in an offer. ❝ maybe you'll get lucky and none of the ride operators will be fuckin' dumb and everything will run smooth tonight. ❞ was it likely? no. but it didn't hurt to hope. ❝ did you have plans? ❞
"Working. Obviously." The holiday wasn't anything Javier could give a shit about, so all things considered he didn't much mind picking up the extra shift. Not to mention, he'd much rather keep busy than idle; if it wasn't at the shop, it would be at Astroland, didn't make any difference to him. Was it bad if he wanted something to break so he could go fuck around with it? Because right now it wasn't actually all that obvious that he was working, just idling about the maintenance area.
His brow quirks upwards as Judah displays a hand wrapped in what seemed like had to be an absurd about of gauze. "How do you fuck up your hand on a dunk tank?" he questioned with a snort. "Actually, I take it back. I've seen the look of some shit around here, it's entirely feasible. Hope you're up on your tetanus shots."
His expression shows his distaste at the blue watered down whatever the fuck in the cup Judah extends. He'd much prefer the contents of the flask. "Alright, now I gotta hear it. They've got you on the dunk tank and drinking whatever the fuck that shit is? You lose your brain somewhere along the way? Have they officially converted you?"
since his twin had run off somewhere after the dunk tank and he hadn't tracked down any of his other peeps yet, jonah was occupying his time in the games section of astroland ( skee ball to be exact ). he was probably just going to go home and skip the fireworks after too long. to be honest, he's not sure he can get down with the noise of astroland, the extra screaming children, and loud explosions played to shitty overture music tonight. it was an overstimulation nightmare bound to happen. maybe the wolfe's den would be quiet, at least for a little while, until the show was over.
in particular jonah fashion, he was fucking around. juggling three skee balls while talking, not paying attention to who might be listening. "you know when i read children free on the flyer, i thought it meant there would be no five and unders, y'know? but here they all our," he shook his head ever so slightly, trying to keep stormy blue eyes on the balls in motion. "i swear the noise today is goin' to be the soundtrack to my fuckin' hell, that and anything by fucking puff daddy, am i right?" he snickered.
Kodi has been watching Jonah as he played the games - or, progressively found other games to play. Which, all things considered, Kodi didn't have any problem with. He wasn't about to be winning any prizes by juggling, even if he was annoyingly good at it. "What sort of amusement park would be free of children? There are plenty of rides geared specifically towards those five and unders. Besides, it's all a ploy, probably. Bring the families in with the 'children get in free' advertising like you're going to get a deal, and just wait until the littles get hungry and start screaming for overpriced galactic sugar air. It's pretty genius, really."
A snort escapes them as he continues. "So yeah, you're not much of kid man. Which is wild, since don't you airbrush shit for a bunch of kids? I mean, I guess adults, too. But the adult is going to be more likely to shell out if there is a kid they're pleasing, don't ya think?" She pauses, tipping her head at him. "So, you gunna throw those balls, or just continue playin' with 'em? Your time is almost up, big guy."
scraped knees and bloody noses were the headline of the night. there were a few people who would laugh off the lack of severity in the injuries he often saw at astroland. surely you want something more exiting! they'd say and ellie would laugh, a lighting strike of a grin across handsome features. if bloody jeans and a dry nose were the scary things people would experience, that was fine with him. though prepared for the worst at any given time -- he'd much prefer hello kitty bandaids to hospital rides. sending the latest toddler back to their parents with a sweet and a sticker, he turned and brows lifted in surprise. laughter escaped despite himself, " don't tell me you're just here because you heard i have sheriff badge stickers. "
"Sheriff badge stickers?" Kodi repeats as she walks through the doors of the first aid facilities, making a silly face at the child walking out alongside their parents and earning herself a giggle in return. "What does a sheriff badge have to do with Astroland or independence day? Or are they selling it like... uh... appreciate your... law enforcement officers? I don't know, seems like it doesn't make much sense. They couldn't give you UFO stickers or something like that? At least that would be on brand and all." She pauses, looking around the place that seemed quiet right now - which was probably for the best. How Ellie dealt with all the cry babies with paper cuts or whatever, Kodi would never know. They hadn't been blessed with patience. "What if I was just here for stickers? I'd make a pretty good sheriff, don't you think?" And just to be annoying for a little while until the next 'emergency' showed up.
Rollercoasters? Check. Screaming kids? Check. Noisy fireworks? Check. Hordes of people? Check. The perfect recipe for a good old nervous breakdown, in Nova's cookbook of life. Had they dragged themself to Astroland regardless? Absolutely. It wasn't so much that she had decided to listen to all those people who had insisted that socializing would get easier eventually if she'd just keep putting herself out there — in all honesty it was just the lesser evil, compared to sitting at home with a bunch of stressed out cats, who only hated noise slightly more than their owner did.
Now normally they would keep their headphones firmly on their head and a walkman in their pocket, but the cacophony of sounds inside an amusement park were too loud for their poor cassettes to stand a chance. So the only available option at this moment in time was to be too present in their surroundings, which ironically prompted Nova to extend out a shaky arm in the direction of an oncoming person. "There's puke." She simply blurted out, blinking a few times to let their brain catch up with their actions. "Sorry, I think it's puke." The nurse moved her arm to instead awkwardly gesture at the unknown substance on the ground.
Help, what if it was just melted ice cream?
"Do you think it's puke?" Good job, Nova. Stellar first impression. Gold medal. "Not- Not that I think you're an expert on puke. You don't look like an expert. Unless you are. I'm mainly an expert in cat puke." Shit. "I mean, even if it's someone's cotton candy from three hours ago, it would still suck to step in it, I think." Move on from the puke. "So how about this weather, huh? Sometimes I do miss rainy Seattle. I mean, I don't hate the sun, but I get sunburns so easily-" Yep, definitely time to shut the fuck up.
Okay, so maybe all of this was a bit over the top with the Independence Day theming loosely tied in with the typical Astroland alien aesthetic, but Kodi was living for it. They were sipping on a (unnervingly?) blue icee while they strolled through the park, keeping an eye on the time when they could since they did eventually have to make their way over to the games booths for a shift. It was satisfying to see so many people running around enjoying themselves, as if the park weren't on the verge of closing at any minute. Maybe it wasn't as bad as some of those more skeptical folks might have you believe...
There's puke. Kodi didn't fully process the words until they were nearly trampling over said potentially puke shaped substance, halting abruptly as the words and situation caught up with them. They studied the splatter in question for a brief moment before looking up to assess their 'savior' of sorts. A savior who seemed to be questioning their assessment of whether or not the substance required saving from.
"Well, I don't expect it would be unheard of that there might be puke..." Kodi's eyes shift to take in their surroundings, the exit of one of the more twisty rollercoasters not all that far away from their current location, "here, of all places. Like, I might not expect it outside bumper cars or those antique cars - sorry, spaceships - that you ride around on that little track at like two miles an hour on. But outside that," they pause to jerk a thumb over their shoulder at the nearby rollercoaster, "is pretty reasonable. The weak tummy-ed, inexperienced might not be able to handle the magic of that beauty."
They take another sip of their icee despite the unidentified goop that could very well be puke right in front of them. They certainly weren't weak stomached. "It definitely could be puke. Or some sort of melted ice cream mess. Or yeah, cotton candy that has seen far better days. Either way I don't think I'd like to have stepped in this galactic gunk no matter what it is, so thanks for that." Kodi glances back towards her, "maybe we can find a 'caution' sign or something so that you don't have to be the gross splotch spoke person for the rest of the day."
When she goes on to change the subject completely to the weather, Kodi doesn't even miss a beat. Their eyes moves up towards the sky briefly, a nod of acknowledgement following. "I would take this any day. Rain sucks because then all the rides close because what if there is lightning or something and then people might die if they're on a big metal roller coaster oh no but I do get you on the sunburn thing, too. Sunburns suck. Maybe like, a hat would help? You'd probably look sick in a hat. Also if you're hot may I also recommend a nuclear blue icee?" They hold up the cup in their hand as if it's on display, "I don't actually know what the flavor is, but whatever it is is delicious. I'd even get you one, I owe you for the whole not stepping into the galactic goo thing."
