I need to be more of a pervert about airplanes
Do you have recommendations for learning to distinguish between different commercial airliners? I've been looking for a chart or something but haven't had any luck so I'm still only able to tell some of the more obvious ones apart 😔
I had some trouble with that myself until I started working at an airport and seeing them every day.
One of the most obvious things to look for is the number and placement of the engines, though most new airliners since the '80s have had two wing-mounted engines, so that isn't always helpful. Some of the other features to looks for are number of wheels, shape of nose, cockpit windows, and tailcone, the arrangement of exit doors, and the winglets.
For example
The A320 (left) has side cockpit windows that slope down a bit, but then the rearmost window is flat on the bottom. On the 737 (right) both windows slope down and join at a point. The cockpit window design is pretty standardized across most Airbusses and Boeings (excepting the A350 and 787). The A320 Also has a rounder nose, smaller winglets (newer versions have bigger ones though), and a tailcone that extends behind the stabilizers. The 737 has a pointier nose, often but not always has scimitar winglets that extend downwards, and has a tailcone that's almost flush with the stabilizers (though on the MAX it extends back more).
If I made a writeup like this for every common airliner we'd be here all day, but those are the sorts of features I generally look for.
For the specific variant, often a good clue is the exit doors.
The A319 has one overwing exit per side, the A320 has two, and the A321 forgoes overwing exits and instead has four full-sized doors.
With some planes though the variants don't have such a clear difference and it sometimes comes down to just looking at reference images and counting windows.
Thank you so much @eldriwolf !

Ok perverts listen up these kind of creepshots are basically upskirts of airplanes ok. Dont do it.
genuinely curious pls respond
people always say that internet spaces are americanised because the users are majority americans.
and i do always wonder how much of that is "there are actually a majority of usamericans" and how much is "usamerican cultural markers are a default for many online spaces, and non usamericans are often indistinguishable from usamericans unless you're actively looking".
so here's an incredibly unscientific poll reblog for reach or whatever
where do you live?
in the usa
anywhere that is not the usa
no nuance. if you live in a usa territory/colony like puerto rico or guam or american samoa, go with your heart.
additional poll, what the hell:
is english your first/native language?
yes, english is the main language i grew up speaking
yes, but i also grew up speaking another language(s)/i'm bilingual
no, i learned english as a second or additional language
chat guess who finally setup audiobookshelf?
Got podcasts up and running! One step closer to get my mum off of Spotify!
You're not gonna believe it but im literally looking at pie charts and tables right now

i took these back in 2013 and to this day they're some of my favorite photos i've ever taken ;w;
someone on reddit shared texts of her and her husband's exclusive english dialect and it's beautiful
a linguist is analyzing it
The letters are seemingly being replaced (or added to) by adjacent letters on the QWERTY keyboard (n with b, y with u, etc)
Which makes me think that this dialect evolved out of typos.
fun part of being hacked is that the scammer will send out messages to a bunch of people you haven't talked to in years so now you have a (admittedly awkward) chance to reconnect
Trying to find an old tumblr post I used to see a lot.
It started with someone listing "places with uncanny energy," like gas stations on a road trip, empty movie theaters, etc.
Then someone reblogged it and said those are called "liminal spaces," defining liminal as in-between, neither one thing nor another.
It was the first time I'd seen the term "liminal" applied to places like that, and it's driving me crazy, I want to find and put a date on it so bad.
NEVER MIND, I FOUND IT!!!
Holy shit I just realized:
Tomorrow (July 4th, 2026) is the 10 year anniversary of the-crepes-of-wrath's comment, which:
Predates the 2020 spike in interest by four years
Predates the original backrooms post, and the the creation of r/liminalspaces by three years
Predates the earliest mention that KnowYourMeme attributes to Twitter by two years
I'm pretty sure this is the moment the term "liminal spaces" was attached to this sort of imagery, and it's TEN YEARS OLD TOMORROW!
LIMINAL SPACES TURN TEN TOMORROW! CELEBRATE BY GETTING LOST IN AN ABANDONED MALL!

web design class assignment to make a bad webpage
web design class unanimously voted to give me an award for this today
I finally got a simple SQLite Database with a custom API up and running as a tech demo, this brings me one step closer to my very own personal blog independent of (most) tech giants.
While not nearly as complete and functional as I want the finished product to be, I am now technically a full stack developer!
