Why did you pick your name?
(please don’t get mad at me I just am curious but feel free to not respond as well. Sorry)
don't worry I love questions!! no need to be sorry :]
i'm a lil uncertain what you mean, because I have 2 names/this could also be referring to my username, so I'll just explain all of them! each one has thought put behind it so I'd love to talk about them
My name Aster is something I chose when I first figured out I was trans. I wanted something space related, so I took to baby name websites as per the standard, and this one stuck out. It relates to both the stars and to flowers, both of which are things I adore. Space is so vast and mysterious and beautiful, and flowers are one of life's frequent wonders + I've always been interested in floriography. I have a google doc that's just a collection of flower meanings gathered from different websites lol. So considering it combined multiple interests and also sounded nice, it became me :) Though I've found out over time that it is a pretty common name for trans people to use, which leaves me a little uncertain with it as I initially also liked it for being unique while still sounding like a standard name, but I still enjoy it.
Prince is a pretty recent name!! Prince is also a pretty recent gender I've figured out! I identified as a regular ol' male for many years, but it always felt a bit off. There was just. smth missing. But it was the closest I had. I've also always found myself drawn to the haughty prince themed characters, bonus points if they're not actually as self-centered as they may seem. Like Roman Sanders and T.M. Opera O. Pearl Houzuki is also notable I love her forever <3<3<3 anyway it's just a vibe I've always been drawn to! And sometime either late last year or early this year I just realized that. I kinda wanted to Be That. Gender wise. houg,h. gendr... dude it just fits me so much I feel so happy with it. I'm a prince!! I think I'm drawn to 1) the vibe the aesthetic etc, 2) the way it's associated with femininity despite being an entirely masculine title, which fits my vibe very well. I've been learning about my relationship with it over time here... initially I was like hahaha you don't need to refer to me with any royalty terms or smth it's just my gender... but I can't deny that the few times someone has jokingly called me 'Your Highness' have been INCREDIBLY satisfying. Sigh. Gender that makes you sound pretentious as FUCK. anyway I've also been trying out using it as a name recently. There's only been one instance of someone actually calling me that but it was nice. I wonder if I just like it as a name or as a title fjkdsjf. In an ideal world I would be called Pr. Aster in place of stuff like "Mr." but that's leaning real hard into pretentious LOL. And "Pr. Prince" is uh. a lil stupid. I do not wish to be revered like a prince but I cannot deny that the terms make me feel so wonderfully happy. Honestly if there were unique pronouns specifically for princes my gender would be complete, I've always felt he/him was a bit off too 🥲
As for 'astrolotte', it's related to a name I used to use, Charlotte. I nabbed it from a character I was obsessed with at the time, Charlotte Emily from FNaF, because I liked the vibe of using a very feminine name as a man, but over time my preferences changed and I started disliking the way it'd make everyone assume I'm female if they heard it independently, so I dropped it. Using feminine names as a man is still such a vibe but it isn't for me. But at some point when using it I just. randomly had the idea of using it in my username. My previous username was "astrozei", which was just "astro" + a random set of letters I thought sounded cool but didn't mean anything. But if I combined astro with "lotte" from Charlotte... it sounds a lot like the word "astronaut"... which is sick as fuck. and "astro" sounds like Aster and is related to why I chose that name at all, so it was like combining my two names into a neat username. Since I've dropped the Charlotte name it's technically out of date but it's so banger that I'm never changing it again. Sorry to any real Charlottes out there who may want the name it's mine now. I was honestly surprised to see it still open on many platforms... I had to give up and use extra symbols for Instagram but on Twitter and Tumblr it was completely up for grabs. Few other space-loving -lottes have realized the way it sounds like astronaut yet ig
Though one time a Twitch streamer thanked me when I followed and they pronounced it "astro-lot-e" so I wonder if it comes across as being pronounced like "astronaut" to most people or no... Ah well. Still not changing it. I love it an astro-lot. Sorry I think I'm funny
Thank you for the ask! I've enjoyed rambling about these
