I feel like I may be alone in this but....I am the only one that is obsessed with Shane and Ilya but not obsessed with HudCon? Don't get me wrong, I like them, think they're great people/actors and hope their post HR career is plentiful! I follow them both on IG (the only other social media platform I use outside of here) and like their posts and will occasionally reblog but that's the extent of my interest?
Hollanov though? Obsessed. I'm past the point of hyper-fixation. I think about them everyday, all day. I'm subscribed to god only knows how many WIPs at this point. I used to NEVER read WIPs before HR. Give me all the fics, all the head canons, all the fanart, all the discussions. I want it ALL!
It's just, in my mind, there are like 4 factions: Hollanov fandom, HudCon fandom, Hudson Fandom and Connor fandom. Most people are in at least 2, 3, if not all 4. I am in 1. I think I made the most peaceful decision for myself lmao

ilya and shane both love to be held by the other. it's not really a "shane is always the little spoon" type of situation, ilya is all for being tucked right into shane's arms
shane loves a baseball cap. forwards, backwards, he likes wearing them a lot
ilya will randomly say "i miss anya" when they're out. even if they're doing something as quick and simple as grocery shopping
although they have different personal styles, when it comes to athletic wear and casual outfits, their clothes are basically a free for all. they're always in each other's things (unless it's an old boston/montreal shirt)
shane finds it satisfying when a time creates a quick math equation (ex. 6:32 6=3×2)
ilya listens to nine inch nails. not in the "closer is a sexy song" kind of way
they're not super into hosting. keeping their home mostly just for them is like creating their own sanctuary for once. they have yuna/david and the pikes over on a regular basis, everyone else is pretty much just for special occasions
shane still barely uses social media, but becomes way more open to ilya posting the two of them together. shane frequently stars in ilya's instagram stories as well as his regular posts. fans go crazy, especially because many of ilya's posts change fans' understanding of the relationship
the centaurs never have to worry about hearing shane and ilya on the road. they snuck around for over a decade, they know how to be quiet
in the summers, before and after the hockey camps, shane and ilya are practically impossible to contact. they barely touch their phones while at the cottage

currently thinking about the conflict in the long game, spoilers ahead
a major point of contention is the difference in support that shane and ilya each have. shane has yuna, david, rose, hayden, and jackie, AND he could have told jj (he didn't feel like he could, but that's another can of worms that i already opened)
but ilya has no one. ryan and fabian knowing ≠ a support system, he is able to eventually tell svetlana but in the book they aren't that close at all anymore, and eventually he is able to come out to troy. but a major part of the conflict is the imbalance in support that they have
which makes it even greater of a shift after the video is spread around
as soon as everyone learns about their relationship, it's like everything is suddenly inverted: shane still has his same people, but he loses almost his entire team and the city that's adored him for so long. on the other hand, ilya technically gains a wider support system because his team isn't full of bigots
i'm sure someone has already said this all but i just can't help but find it interesting, though maybe that isn't the word i'm looking for. the shift is just a fun detail to me

shane hollander surprises just about everyone when he agrees to sit down for a short interview with rolling stone, finally discussing the parts of his life he rarely speaks about
people (including me) love the trope of ilya showing disdain and/or jealousy towards shane's friends (rose and hayden especially)
but like, ilya is almost always joking and he actually likes/appreciates shane's friends
part of me feels like the same can't be said for shane and ilya's friends. i don't think he'd be vocal about it at all, but i think sometimes shane genuinely doesn't like some of ilya's friends
for example, i think shane wouldn't be troy's biggest fan. it isn't just that he's jealous of troy, but shane doesn't fully trust troy's complete personality 180. maybe it's because his old teammates turned out to almost all completely suck, but shane is wary of troy and worries that he's still a bigot, even though he's out
maybe he doesn't necessarily dislike svetlana, but he probably never really gets over the fact that at one point, she was the only person that ilya would see consistently aside from shane himself. as much as ilya envies hayden for getting to be close to shane for so long, it's significantly worse with ilya and svetlana from shane's perspective
i think shane's favorite of ilya's friends is wyatt. wyatt could talk to literally anyone, is very understanding, was never a bigot, and never felt like a threat
- shane fathers each of their children, they probably have two
- they choose a surrogate with similar features to ilya
- shane does not use nicknames for their kids, ilya does almost exclusively
- if one of the kids vomits, ilya handles it
- teachers/principals HATE dealing with shane
- they consider hiring a nanny, but shane is concerned about privacy and they'd both like to be fully present
- ilya retires before shane does because he wants to start their family sooner, and they decide it'll be okay if one of them is home with the kids
- ilya is absolutely terrified of being a bad father, despite everyone's assurances that he's great at it
- their kids learn to speak speak english, russian, and french. (especially) when they're young, ilya will mostly speak with them in russian to make sure they know it well
- shane is called dad, ilya is called papa. when the kids get older, they end up calling them both dad unless speaking russian
- they do not do screen time with their kids, especially no ipads. they can watch movies and tv, but calm shows that don't annoy shane
- the kids learn hockey, but are not forced to play. ilya especially is concerned about putting too much pressure on them

“Do you ever wonder what it'd be like if we never met?”
“Yes. Usually I think my life would be much better, no one would be there to annoy me.”
Hayden sat up, glaring at Ilya, who was grinning at him from across the room. “I wasn't talking to you, asshole.”
Shane, who was sitting beside Hayden and was the actual person the question was directed towards, shrugged. “I mean, not really. We were drafted to the same team in the same draft. I think we'd have met no matter what.”
“No, I mean like, what if we didn't play hockey? Or played for different teams, but never really talked?” Hayden clarified.
Shane looked thoughtful as he considered Hayden's question. Hayden expected him to say well I would never not play hockey, because Shane could never picture living a life without hockey. But then Shane shrugged again.
“I guess I don't really consider hypotheticals like that. Why?”
Now it was Hayden's turn to shrug. “I don't know, it's just like—I wonder if we'd be any different from how we ended up. Like what if I hadn't been chosen by Montreal, and ended up surrounded by assholes and then became one myself?”
“Well, you are surrounded by assholes in Montreal.” Shane pointed out. “And you kind of are an asshole.”
Hayden grinned a little. “Okay, yeah, but I'm not the same kind of asshole. Anyway, it's just like…me and you are always around for stuff each other does.”
From his spot across the room, Rozanov made an amused sound. “I feel like you were not there for a lot of what Shane did. Or did I miss something?”
“Shut up, Ilya,” Shane threw a small pillow towards Rozanov, who chuckled as he caught it. “You know what he means, stop being a dick.”
Shane turned back to Hayden. “So you think if we hadn't met, our lives would be different now?”
“Maybe. Like, what if we have more impact on each other's lives than we realize?”
Now Shane was raising a brow at Hayden, giving him the same look that Jackie sometimes did when he was being particularly dense. “Hayd, you definitely impacted my life like, a lot.”
Hayden felt his face heat. “I know! I mean other than that. Smaller things, like, what's it called. The butterfly effect?”
“The butterfly effect? So little things you and I have done have drastically changed the outcome of our lives?” Shane asked thoughtfully.
Hayden wasn't sure if he necessarily meant drastic changes. Was butterfly effect the wrong phrase? “Well, I just watched this movie where the main character and her best friend get into a huge fight and one of them says like, ‘I wish we never met!’ And then she wakes up and her best friend isn't in her life and everything is different.”
Shane looked like he wasn’t sure what Hayden wanted him to say, like one of those instances where he thought there was a correct response. So Hayden continued, “Like, what if you and I never met and it somehow led to me never meeting Jackie?”
“How would that happen? You met her at a bar.”
“Yeah, but you were there! What if you and I hadn’t ever met, so we didn’t become friends, and then we didn’t hang out at all and I never went to that club with the team and met Jackie. I’d have nothing!”
Shane nodded slowly. “I guess it’s possible. You don’t think you would have gone out with the team if I wasn’t there?”
Hayden considered the question. He’d met Jackie when they were both only twenty, so it wasn’t like it’d be surprising for him to go to the club with his team without Shane. “Well, I probably still would have gone out, but I might’ve been in a different spot or something and then Jackie and I wouldn’t have seen each other.”
“I don’t think us not meeting would affect me and Ilya.” Shane said, glancing over at Ilya, who looked like he wasn’t listening to the conversation anymore. Hayden had a feeling this was an incorrect analysis on his part.
“Well, no, probably not.” He shrugged. “You guys met before me and you did, so it definitely wouldn’t change your meeting. But maybe there’s something else that would have gone differently.”
“Yes,” Ilya said, and of course he had been listening all along. “I can think of one thing. One summer day, Shane’s super annoying friend thought, ‘I should call my very best and only bro.’ And then–”
Shane turned to glare at Ilya. “Shut the fuck up,” he hissed. “Can’t you go somewhere else? Go play with Anya or something.”
Hayden laughed, but then realized that Jackie sounded like that to him more often than he’d like to admit, so he shut up. Even if he wanted to laugh at Ilya getting scolded for being an asshole.
“It’s a funny story!” Ilya had that stupid smirk on his face, his hands up in surrender. “But I will not tell it, I guess. No fun to be had under Captain Hollander!”
Shane made a weird face, glanced between Hayden and Ilya, then laughed at something. Hayden suddenly felt like he was the only person in the room who didn’t understand some silent language, because Ilya put his hands down and shook his head.
“If only the world knew you, Shane.” He shook his head, grinning. “That would be the real butterfly effect.”
Then Ilya got up, kissed Shane on the head, and left the room.
“What the fuck was that about?” Hayden asked, smiling as well for some reason. Something about that interaction just seemed like it should be something to smile about.
The way Shane looked—like he was sheepish or something—still felt like such a new thing to Hayden. It was insane that Shane had that mode, that Hayden had never really seen it. It was also kind of refreshing to see his friend free in that way.
“Nothing,” Shane answered after a short moment. “He’s just being an ass. Anyway, what were we talking about? How things would be different if we weren’t friends? I think that my life would probably still be different, even if my relationship with Ilya still would have happened.”
Hayden felt weirdly tempted to ask if Shane thought that, without Hayden, something would have been different with Ilya even if the two of them still would have met the same way. But he didn’t want to ask too much of Shane or something, so he just let his friend keep talking.
“I don't know if I would have really bothered to hang out with anyone on the team so much, if you hadn't gotten me to.” Shane said, sounding more matter of fact than wistful. “I guess we'd probably end up like that movie, somehow.”
Hayden was weirdly glad to hear it. Some of the other guys picked on him a little, when he tried to have conversations like this with them in the past. They'd told him he was acting like a girl, which he now realized he probably should have shut down. Anyway, with Shane it was different. They actually spoke like they were friends, which was nice.
“Imagine if in another world, us not being friends means one of us does something totally crazy. Like what if I quit hockey and became like, a teacher or something?”
Shane stared at Hayden, and then laughed. “Okay, don't get ahead of yourself, Hayd.” He said, still smiling. “A teacher?”
“Well like, a P.E. teacher.” Hayden rolled his eyes. “Don't laugh at the idea of me being a teacher! I taught my kids how to walk and talk, and…other things.”
“Okay, but Jackie was there. You can't have your wife there to help you be a teacher of academic things.”
Hayden pointed at Shane, trying not to laugh. “Okay, buddy, but you couldn't be a teacher either! You might be smarter than me, but you're no genius.”
Shane narrowed his eyes playfully. “Next time you don't understand something, I'm just going to let you be confused.”
“Hey, these are all hypotheticals!” Hayden laughed, leaning over to smack Shane's leg. “I still need someone to keep me from looking like a complete idiot.”
“Oh, is that why we’re friends?” Shane teased. “My role in this friendship is to make sure you don’t look too stupid?”
Hayden nodded, looking at Shane with a playfully rueful expression. “Yup. When I got drafted to Montreal way after you, I thought: this is it. I need to befriend Shane Hollander, the best hockey player in the world, so that he can remind me how to spell the word 'restaurant.'"
“And you still spell it wrong!” Shane laughed.
“Spell 'conscious’ out loud right now.” Hayden challenged. Shane stared back at him, and Hayden could practically hear the gears turning in his head. Then, Shane threw his head back and gave Hayden the finger, prompting him to burst into laughter. “You can’t teach for shit!”
“Fuck off!” Shane laughed, sitting upright again. “There’s no spelling in hockey, I think I’ll be alright.”
