I dreamt it would snow on the day we started your journey to this realm. Sure enough I woke up to the frozen ocean pouring from the skies, my magical little water baby. After 23 hours of labor and a c-section, I was at my limit. It was the toughest 24 hours of my existence. I thought “how can someone take so much pain? How am I going to do this? Am I going to make it through this?” And then, everything stopped: we heard your cry and our whole world shattered. I looked at Francis and we wept with overwhelming love and joy. Neither of us could take our eyes off of you. You looked me right in the eye and I swear you smiled. Frankie put his hand on your chest and you instantly calmed, you knew his energy and his love immediately. No amount of pain could outweigh the instant joy I experienced. Nothing from the past 23 hours mattered. Even as I felt them tugging at my insides, replacing my guts and sewing me up, I smiled like a loon and tears of overwhelming joy never stopped coming. I couldn’t even speak. Our girl, we will love you until the end of time! We will give our entire beings to you and do our best to show you all the joy, adventure and love this world has to offer. We will stand by you through the pain, and take on all we can for you. We will teach you everything we know, and allow you to teach us that you know better. We will root for that. We will meet you with enthusiasm and love and understanding. We will navigate fear together, and find new ways to overcome it. We will always strive for love, eternal and unconditional, real love. Mama and Papa couldn’t adore you more.
