On the other hand the wormvasion is funny and the thing about them is that because they are so simple in design they actually make it possible for me, the slowest fucking artist I know, to sometimes even finish multiple pieces in one day

And given the situation at hand with my account and why I'm on a backup account for now...

In the 26 days that I was locked in worm jail, I drew 31 worms across 13 completed artworks!

This does not count the worms in my worm galaxy pattern (because I lost track and I cannot count them now oops), and excludes recolors from completed artworks!

This time, Jeanne’s voice came from the communicator. Sieg picked up the receiver.

“I’m here. What is it?”

“…”

Even though she was the one who had called, Ruler awkwardly sank into silence.

“Ruler?”

“Umm—why do airplanes fly?”

Then, without warning, she threw out that fundamental question.

“Err. They fly due to the flow of air released by the wings, I think. It’d take a while to fully explain, but why do you ask?”

“W-What would happen if the wings were torn off?”

“The plane would decelerate and fall. Of course, the same thing would happen if the engines stalled.”

“Wouldn’t that be really serious!?”

“…It would. Though, we probably wouldn’t have the time to think about that if it actually occurred.”

There's something odd about being in the presence of this Servant.

He's a Berserker.

He made the active choice to become one himself.

As the Servant body is a terminal for his still-living self, he assisted with his own summoning. He chose to activate Mad Enhancement.

And when he first appeared, there was no difference between his appearance or behavior in that moment, from when he was summoned as a Caster or when he lived on Earth.

He felt a difference, though. He knew it had worked. He felt stronger - but not strong enough, though he expected to feel that way too. He also felt a burning in his blood and a struggle in his heart - a literal one, not a metaphorical one.

He had no Command Spells. The black dragon mark on his hand, while present, held no power - it was not coalesced magical energy, but simply blackened skin. Without the power they once held, without that seal, he stood on the precipice of death or disappearance from the moment of his arrival.

In this container, his own heart, his own blood, constantly threaten to not only reject him, but consume him.

He had managed to hold off the forced transformation for a matter of minutes once before, with a powerful determination to survive just one more moment, to protect the people he loved, to win the fight to protect the world that they loved.

What Mad Enhancement had done was enable him to maintain that state - that heightened determination to keep on living, even if just for one more second, one more heartbeat, one more strike. That need to go on living to protect those he cares about; to survive even if it kills him.

With enhancement so powerful his very existence depends on it, then, his lucidity is bizarre, to the point of being unsettling, because there is only one way someone who functions like this can be so conspicuously normal:

He has always been like this.

Though, really, he did choose to be summoned as a Berserker - to risk his own mind for more power to protect those he cared about - so at the end of the day, how surprising is it that such a level of madness is within the range of his normal?

Media often loves to lean into the idea that people with speech and language difficulties are either tragically locked in their own heads, or just plain stupid. Fran is neither - she gets frustrated when she has trouble communicating (see: some of her early conversation with Caules), but she's very perceptive of what's happening around her (in fact she was the first to pick up on the fact that something was wrong in the Babbage plot in London), she understands what other people are saying and responds in ways that make that obvious to the best of her ability; if someone is around who's willing to take her seriously she WILL get her thoughts across - she just...doesn't really have the capacity to form words without really straining. And that's okay. She sticks to people who take the time to learn to understand her, and her input makes a difference because she may be weird but she's pretty damned smart.
