"Yeah, of course."
"Iâll always be there for myself, right?"
Hey. Donât worry. Weâll get through this.
"I mean, sure itâs hard now but we got through it. Everyone did..I guess itâs just hard sometimes. To look at that stuff."
He awkwardly pulled himself..literally, into him, as if seeking comfort.
"Itâs kind of weird butâŚit feels nice."
"It's... not really something I like remembering, but it's a reminder that we're all safe now. That's what matters, right?"
He wrapped his arms around Asbel's back, firmly, placing his chin against his shoulder.
"It does... but it's not bad, either. Man, I never thought I'd hug myself so... literally."
"I-Iâm not sure if I count, butâŚ"
"I think in the end the only one I can hold onto is me right now.."
Everyoneâs slipping away from us right now.Â
"So..could we..you know.."
"Yeah, of course."
"I'll always be there for myself, right?"
Hey. Don't worry. We'll get through this.

ÎŁâ¸â}} âYes, that is her way after all. What about Lambda?â It was always weird to bring up that subject, just knowing that âthe seed of evilâ now and forever resided inside of his elder brother. Hubert often worried that at anytime heâd take over Asbel and laugh in their faces for being so naive, but right now all the hope they had was believing in him right?
Before Asbel could have the chance to answer, a dizzy spell had taken over Hubert, his right hand clutching onto the side of his desk to keep his balance, a free hand quickly sliding to his foreheadâ it must have been from lack of sleep, it had been terribly busy around Stratah, with the monster attacks everything had been taking itâs tole on Hubert without him even realizing it. From this he already knew that Asbel was going to jump the worry gun.
"Lambda?" Asbel echoed, blinking; he was surprised Hubert was curious. The entity he'd come to call his friend was surprisingly talkative sometimes, but could also be... troublesome. It was mutually beneficial, though, seeing as Lambda pointed out a lot of the things Asbel failed to notice, and vice versa where simple pleasantries were involved. It was a learning experience for both, but Asbel wouldn't have it any other way. "He's fine too! He's b-- Hubert!"
Without a moment to lose, Asbel bounded forward until he was a hair's width away from his brother, two hands placed solidly on his shoulders. "Are you all right? What's wrong? Are you sick? Hubert, don't push yourself so hard. Just sit down, okay?" Taking a breath to calm himself, he noticed the dark rings beneath Hubert's eyes. He always overworked himself. It worried Asbel so much - and though he thought he might know the answer, he asked anyway. "What's the matter?"
iuvenis-fratres:
ÎŁâ¸â}} âActually it sounds like something youâd do.â Hubert responded simply, Asbel was always like this and no matter how much Hubert detested actions like this he could never change the person that was his elder brother, that would always be his way disorganized, unproper, yet saving all his flaws with an uplifting personality and willingness to help others in need no matter the tole it took to himself.
âAnyway, how are things in Lhant right now? Things have been.. well to say the least quite tight here so I havenât found an opening to visit yet.â A curt pause before he continued. âHow is mother?â
Asbel could sympathize. Lhant was busy this time of year, with merchants and farmers and travellers and all types of people passing through. The cryas was in heavy demand and there wasn't enough to supply, and he'd spent agonizing nights wondering what to do about it. Then there was taxes he needed to collect, and monsters that needed to be fought off - thinking about everything he had to do on a daily basis made his head spin.
"Busy," he replied, sighing as he saw the stacks of paperwork lining his desk in his mind's eye. "I probably shouldn't have left, but you're more important, anyway." He perked up, though, thinking about their mother. "She's good," he replied, "though she still likes to get on my case about everything. That's mom, though."

ÎŁâ¸â}} Watching as that cheery spirit instantly dove down into the depths of guilt and sadness, even if he didnât show it Hubert never liked seeing Asbel this way. After all what is an elder brother to a younger but  someone to gaze upon and look up too. Asbels charismatic look upon everyone was something, that Hubert deeply admired.
âYes well I suppose this time you will take action and at least respond to my lettersâ Itâs worry some, for all I know you could have been in some accident that I wasnât informed of.â
Asbel found his smile as quickly as he had lost it, and in a moment he was laughing sheepishly, rubbing the nape of his neck. "I suppose," he breathed, looking determinedly at Hubert. "But I wasn't! I just... I meant to reply, but I wanted to set aside a lot of time so I could write you a long letter. But then there's always so much paperwork, it just got... pushed. Then I realized that I'd never replied, and I thought I'd rather just see you."
He sighed, looking away as his face began to tint a light shade of pink. "That sounds pretty silly, doesn't it?"

ass bell plhant and the king of the d
The blonde tilted his head curiously to the side, an innocence to his eyes which could only be brought out by the very person who had urged him to follow. It wasnât often found, the depths of those golden orbs harbouring plenty of taint over the years of venomous suffering. But in moments like this, where it appeared almost like their childhood days together, concerns demolished and pure bliss not a notion forced, Richard had an effortless softness to his features. As if by simply existing and having his presence nearby, Asbel was still saving his king, time and time again.
But Richard neednât wonder for long what had prompted Asbel to come. He was easy enough to read, from body language to his manner of speech, the monarch silently observing whatever detail came to him without giving the man away himself. He waited, eyes narrowed into a warm smile, as the inevitable truth spilled out. Asbel was no liar, and even when it came down to simple matters such as this, he couldnât seem to do it either, compelled to lay it out like it was even if there was no harm to his words. Then again, he was likely also aware of Richardâs tendency to spot his attempts, even if the young king said nothing to insinuate it.
And sure enough, it had been as Richard had assumed. A playful spirit of the past still lingering in the young lordâs heart. No matter the dedication to duty, freedom whispered loudly, at times very convincing as well. And Richard didnât mind in the slightest, the two having spent very little time together as of late. It should be fine this one time, so long as they return to their respective work in the end. They were both deserving of a break, he would have to admit. And even if they werenât, Richard found himself awkwardly unable to turn Asbel down, being one to drop everything if his friends called for him, even as he was practically glued to his burdens. Next to nothing could tear Richard away from it, his kingdom and his peope not considered simply his duty or responsibility, but his life. And so this spoke highly of his friends, Asbel especially, all of them having made sure he and the citizens could have a life to begin with.
The warmth bubbled in Richardâs chest at the thought of Asbel coming to visit without a thought dedicated to his work, the only reason simply being him. It was rather gratifying, filling the young king to the brim with a sort of contented joy.
âI donât know what youâre talking aboutâ, he teased. Pausing for a moment, he continued, losing the mischief in his voice. âSo where are we going?â
It was already becoming clear, even to Asbel, that Richard was already feeling better. Nothing could truly erase the fatigued shadows from his face, but there was a light in his eyes one so rarely saw, reminiscent of childhood days long gone by. That, in and of itself, was enough to spark a grin on Asbel's face, goofy and just full of joy for the privilege of being able to take time out to spend in such a way.
When Richard's reply came, his smile became more reserved, thoughtful, and somehow while the past seemed like it might have just been days ago, it simultaneously felt worlds away, and he couldn't believe how much things had changed since then. Bringing a hand up to his lips and stifling a quiet chuckle, he remembered being led by Richard up this very same road all those years ago. Something he wanted to show us, he recalled. It had been one of the best days of his life (not including that night, when it all went wrong. Asbel didn't like thinking of that fateful evening).
He had been so foolish then. He truly believed he had the power to change everything, to help Richard change his future kingdom. At that time he had felt so strong, so self-accomplished, that he'd felt like nothing could possibly stand between them and their destination. Richard had conviction then, too, and he could still feel the pride he'd felt in his heart after hearing about Richard's dreams for a peaceful Windor. Asbel realized that now, Richard had finally achieved what he had wanted to do - and even if the process had been difficult and bloody, it was by no means his fault, and he was sure the kingdom appreciated his hard work of restoring everything back to its former state of glory. Not one of Richard's efforts went unnoticed by Asbel, and it was painfully obvious how much of a toll it took on his friend to be constantly trying to redeem himself. It hurt to watch his best friend slowly chip away at himself for crimes he had no control over, trying and trying to right wrongs he had no responsibility for, blaming himself for Lambda's actions as though there were a way to make things right. As far as he believed, things had already been righted the moment Richard was free of Lambda's influence. He couldn't stand being helpless to watch his friend work himself thin. That, then, was why he could at least hope to drag him away momentarily from that life - the life he never deserved to have, the one Asbel spent days wishing he could bear the burden of himself to save Richard the trouble - and letting him to relax away from his responsibilities as king felt more important than ever, if even only for a short while.
That thought in itself brought Asbel back to the present, where the roadside cabin and the hill beyond were slowly coming into view. Richard's curiosity seemed genuine, causing Asbel to look up at his friend, an eyebrow raised inquisitively, the smile never leaving his face.
"Don't you remember? You're the one that took me here in the first place."
He stopped, looking back ahead and envisioning the cliffside he knew would be coming into view soon.
"I know it was a long time ago, but... don't tell me you forgot."
"Now Asbel are you keeping up with your training?"
âEvery day, Captain! I try to remember everything Iâve learnt from you over the years. I think Iâve made some progress.â
âWhy not meet each one of them and get to know them. I met your father before we were to be married and we had a chance to get to know each other from more than just a piece of paper.â Lady Kerri hoped her son might at least meet some of the candidates on the list after all one may very well make a good impression on him or he may fall in love with one similar to how she had fallen for his father after getting to know him.
Asbel groaned, running both his hands through his hair. His mom just didn't get it, did she? "Mom, I don't want to select a wife like I'm shopping for shoes! I can't just... test people out like objects." He sighed, trying to shove his previous exasperation away. He didn't want to be short with Lady Kerri, of all people, but it seemed like there was an invisible barrier between them that he just couldn't break through. Nevertheless, he had to try.
"I do like meeting people, Mom, but it feels strange when I know I'm supposed to get married to one of them. Why can't I just wait to find someone I really love?" He stopped short, realizing what he had just said, and dropped the volume of his voice considerably in embarrassment. "I'm too young to do this, Mom."
ass bell plhant and the king of the d
He should have anticipated this enthusiasm, but Richard almost stumbled as his friend took him by the hand and made his way out. As per usual, the king paid no heed to what people thought of Asbelâs actions, whether theyâd stare or mumble, however inappropriate they deemed the way he treated their ruler, Richard knew that these people couldnât see Asbel through his eyes and never would. It mattered not if they completely abhored the man, theyâd have to equally abhor their king if this was to be the case.
But at this point, he barely kept his attention elsewhere, only following as his friend took him out of the castle and out into the city, towards their destination further away from it.
Richard really must have looked awful, at the very least this was a thought crossing his mind as he had stepped foot outside. In one last attempt to appear as he should, he moved his hand through blonde strands again.
âSo, Asbel⌠You did not discard your work to come see me, did you?â he inquired carefully.
Asbel shifted his wide eyes away from the man beside him, laughing quietly like a guilty man convicted of some heinous crime. "O-of course not!" he blurted, hand rubbing the back of his neck. "Since when did I ever do that, Richard?"
Of course the answer was rather obvious, considering this wasn't the first time he'd done it; in hindsight he knew that Richard probably knew that also, but the words had come out and sealed his fate before he even realized what his lips had mouthed for him.
It didn't really matter too much, though. After all, the King really looked as though he needed this break, and as both his loyal knight and his loyal friend, it was his duty to see to it that he got some time out of the city. He'd protect him if anything went wrong, so there was no cause for worry, really. Besides, even Asbel himself was itching to just take this day and spend it with Richard. So whatever arguments his subconscious could have possibly made, he had a way to justify himself and that was reason enough to do what he did.
After a short pause, he laughed again quietly to himself, this time in submission, and he sighed lightly. "Well, actually," he began, suddenly interested in the grass growing alongside the road, "I did. But I guess... you knew that already, right?"
did you actually ever play i spiy with lambda?
âYeah! Itâs actually a great way to pass the time.â
