I feel like usually I’m so quick to comment and be critical of the nhl when something of this nature occurs… but honestly, I am so tired. Every single time, the outcome is the same. The NHL will continue to deflect. They will wait until the absolute last possible minute to make a statement that is lacking in a plan of action. Obviously, from a legal perspective, I understand not wanting to comment on an active investigation and pending trial. However, due to the serious nature of the allegations, maybe detail if their leave is paid or unpaid? Address people’s concerns for consequences and if/when they will be assessed? If Bettman is wondering why the NHL is miles behind the likes of the NFL and NBA, perhaps he should look at how they handle civil and legal conflict. The negative press stops when fans’ and owners’ concerns are addressed in a timely and respectful manner, not when you attempt distraction via league expansion talks. Once again, and to the surprise of no one, Gary Bettman’s NHL is out of touch.
