I've been waiting for it ever since the Brotherhood DLC that hinted at it. Nothing makes me happier than exploring such an pivotal moment in U.S History.

I know that he didn't just let go of her, but I feel as if because he had such a love for her, he would never been able to love another the same way.  I feel like his love for Sofia is fake. Ezio would never go for that type of girl. 

This was the message conveyed through the Masyaf Keys. Ezio understood it after watching Altair’s memories. He finally decided to lay down his sword and declare his feelings to Sofia.
