Almost There

“No, i’m not nervous! I can get you that whiskey no problem! Black coffee, honey and- whiskey?” “Aah, really” She took a step forward. ‘If you would support my piece on my discovery of super powered-people, I have leads. On what they might wear, on their daily choices, their hobbies…”

“Yes? No! I don’t drink. But I can get you that.  If that’s what you would like, with your coffee.” She glanced at the door for a moment, pre-contemplating the task.

“I like to have a cider when we have parties, but that’s it.”

“Whiskey.

And if we don’t have it, get it from someone’s desk.  There’s got to be one person in this office who has a bottle of alcohol in their drawer.” No, don’t listen to her.

“Yes? No! I don’t drink. But I can get you that.  If that’s what you would like, with your coffee.” She glanced at the door for a moment, pre-contemplating the task.

 ”Okay, okay here’s the deal — I can retrieve all of your stuff that I erased from your phone— under one condition.”

It wasn’t like Lily made a habit of creeping on customers who were on their laptops during her breaks—well, okay, yes, she did; she tended to spend her breaks discreetly sitting behind patrons with laptops to catch glimpses of their screens, but only because sometimes they were up to interesting things. She’d spotted at least two hackers in The Grind over the past two months.

But this girl just seemed to be on her blog, finishing up a post, and as Lily’s eyes drifted over the look of the webpage, she didn’t think twice about grabbing her coffee, standing, and going over to drop into the seat beside this girl like she’d been invited—she had, in fact, invited herself. “‘Sthat your blog? Looks pretty sweet. There’s probably a couple things you could do to the layout to make it flow better, though. I’ve got—”

She paused to lean over and check the clock on the corner of the other girl’s laptop screen, before continuing, “—about ten minutes left of my break, if you want to let me take a swing at the html right here, I could probably have your blog looking pretty sick.”

She finally managed to move her head to face her laptop screen, then looked back at the girl beside her. First of all, she thought her blog looked pretty good. She wasn't the absolute greatest at web-design but that didn't mean she wasn't aware of what looked good and what didn't look so good. In all honesty, she the layouts of her blogs and websites weren't exactly her strengths, but that didn't stop her from feeling offended.

"Mmmokay. But, like, tell me first. Before you changed anything." She relaxed her hands over the keypad, somewhat protectively of her laptop.

A gossip rag reports on Hawkeye being cranky towards some supposed ‘fans’ (which will later go on to be revealed as reporters looking for soundbites). Clearly STAR is either ignoring or completely missing the irony of their article all together.
