This blew up. A few things Iβd like to add.
One, itβs still incest if they arenβt blood-related. Having sex with your step-siblings isnβt anymore ethically, morally or societally wrong than having sex with your blood siblings. They donβt regard themselves as βclose friends,β βbattle partnersβ or any of the other dumb shit incest-supporters have tried to hide behind to avoid criticism. They are brothers, full-stop.
Two, the excuse of βtheyβre demons, so what?β is bad for numerous reasons. Viewing media and fandoms with a critical eye is good, it means that you arenβt going to let things that are βquestionableβ pass by. You can dodge around the fact until youβre blue in the face, but acceptance of things (even fictional) long-term will affect your perception of real life events. Itβs called βgetting used to it.β Also, having standards for writing or fandom isnβt anything to get upset about either. Itβs 2020, and I think we can have a piece of media that doesnβt have incest in it, thank you.
Three, and this is a weird one, liking certain characters (such as Asmodeus) doesnβt mean that you suddenly canβt critique incest in the fandom. Iβm fully aware of the writing errors that are imbedded in Asmoβs character and Iβm fully aware of some of the off-putting things he says. Iβm also aware that the OM! team have alluded to sexual assault in their sloppy writing and continually bully one of the only characters of color and mock him. These arenβt fucking paragons of writing capability here and Iβm not surprised that they wrote Asmodeus the way they did. Itβs wrong, and I donβt support it, and I donβt write/headcanon Asmodeus to be the way they depict him to be. Asmodeus was shafted in favor of having just the βslutty brotherβ and that apparently meant the fucked minds of the OM! team to make him make off-putting comments. A characterβs bad writing doesnβt mean that suddenly you canβt like that character anymore, or that you need to suddenly become deaf and blind in the eyes of issues - it means you like a character with shitty writing and that you should critique the writing. Also, itβs a blog name, guys, and if your biggest take-away from my post is my blog name ... youβve got bigger problems than I can solve.
And finally, four, donβt just throw your arms up and say βwell, itβs just gonna be there anyway!β in response to the fandom. No, that is giving normalcy to these fucking incest writers and giving them a wall to hide behind. Donβt be the shield for these people, your complacency in problematic material will only create more of that material, as people no longer have to face the consequences for the actions of their creative works. This applies to both the OM! teams and the fandom. Stop giving people the ability to hide from what theyβve created, and stop inadvertently supporting incest in the process.
Iβm not really even a part of this fandom anymore. I moved on to @lord-aeducan to have more of a video game-centric blog. I pop in once and while to check on whatβs going on. Fandom sucks, and it always will, be it OM! or anything else but itβs important to view all media constructively and critically. And yes, Iβm still going to block you if you try to do some incest apologia shit. Call me cowardly, but Iβm not going to play defense force for the obviously right choice because youβre too scared to be confronted with the reality you supported and made for yourself.
