Sunstone dreamed about the patrols since he learned to speak, and even more he dreamed about finally starting to train his fighting skills. But at the time when he was still considered as "not ready for battle," their librarian was captured by lunarians, and all this work was suddenly overthrown on their newbie's shoulders. At first, gems told him that this is a temporary measure and they'll find a permanent librarian soon. But after his creative mind and outstanding managing turned their library in a perfect and handy system, everyone was just convinced that his natural talent is already discovered and that he didn't need another role.

At that time, he had the trained with opals only once – and, somehow, Ethiopian Opal was the one who was the most adamant about Sunstone keeping the librarian job. Nobody attached any importance to it, as Effie was already known by his perfect and soft personality. He couldn't have any egocentric goals here, right?

But finally, after many years, Sun was tired enough of his job to confront Opal personally. Nobody knows what they said to each other... but someone has seen, on that day, Ethiopian Opal (or, as they all called him by now, Nice) leaving school as quickly as he could. Australian Opal was the one who followed him to get him back. But alas, they both became victims of lunarians' sudden attack. When fighters arrived, only Australian Opal's pieces were rescued. After that battle, he changed completely, said that Ethiopian Opal could still be on the island, and was too focused on the thought to find him. Obviously, no training could be done in these circumstances, so their place was temporarily taken by Moonstone – Opals' assistant. Just like Sunstone, she got stuck on this job for so long that nobody was ready to let her fight now. Although she was really irritated by it, she really couldn't do anything about it. But at least, she finally agreed to train Sunstone.

Moon became a true compass for him at that moment, as he was already quite inspired by her from their first meeting. With time, they became great sparring partners and really close friends. While their performance became better and better, some gems even started to jokingly call Sunstone "a number two Nice."

Although Moon and Sun found some joy in their duels, neither of them wanted to stay here for a long time. They just needed an opportunity to prove themselves, and finally, it arrived... when some of the patrols reported that they had seen a gem among lunarians – something that happened so rarely that most of them didn't even believe that it was possible. And yet, it happened again, and alas, this time fighters recognised Australian Opal in him.

During some sunny day, when Moon and Sun decided to practice under the daylight, they suddenly encountered another lunarians' raid – and Australian Opal, also known as Wreck, was at their lead.

They knew that they should've retreated, as they're still "not real fighters." But Kongo-sensei's safety, along with all other gems, was still a priority, so they took a fight. Their outstanding performance appeared to be more efficient than any other pair on the island, and together, they crashed Aussie and defeated lunarians in no time. Alas, Opal's pieces were collected by moon creatures anyway, but this fight proved to everyone in the school that they both were ready for the real fight long ago. After that, Sunstone finally became a fighter, and Moonstone decided to take a quest of renewing the island map.

It seemed that in the end, everything turned out really good... but for Sunstone, there still was a room for some doubt. The battle against Australian Opal really stuck in his head: while Moon was sure that traitors don't deserve a second chance anyway, Sun knew that Wreck's purpose was only in finding Ethiopian Opal. Turned out, he somehow got to know that there's some "new Nice" and was really outraged by it. Sunstone kept thinking, if that were about the Moonstone, would he do the same thing? He probably would. Not to mention that he still felt some guilt about Ethiopian Opal's disappearance – even if absolutely everyone kept telling him that it was just another loss caused by lunarians and absolutely not by him. Still, shortly after that, he decided to move on from being "number two Nice" and find his own purpose.

Decades passed, and Moonstone finally returned to fighting – and, what's mattered the most, she also agreed to patrol with Sunstone! This reunion had brought so much joy to both of them, and yet, the joy was crossed by one more sudden event, as it appeared that Ethiopian Opal was, indeed, on the island for all this time but completely broken to pieces. Turned out that on the day of that sudden attack, he had fallen from the cliff and was covered by the stones that chipped off the edge during the battle.

Sunstone genuinely didn't know what to expect. Is Opal still mad? Or maybe he actually never was? How would he react to the "number two Nice" thing? Would he demand any apology, or will he try to move on? And... what should Sunstone tell him about Australian Opal..?
