Movie leak
Heard the MLP movie got leaked in 1080p. Don’t watch that. See it in theatres! Discourage leak sharing and scene uploads. Behind any media is a team of hard working people who made it.
Don’t pirate things you like.
How are you going to know you’re going to like it if you hadn’t seen it yet?
i‘m not advocating piracy, but if you are like me and live in a country where you know the theater releases of kids’ movies are terribly dubbed, then yes, go watch the leaked movie. If you liked it enough and you feel like supporting the show, buy some of their merch, or, at the end of end, buy the DVD or Bluray when it comes out!
This has been a PSA for this year.
“I’m not advocating piracy, but” *proceeds to advocate piracy*
You can’t know for sure if you’re going to like a movie before you watch it. Same as you can’t know if you’ll like a book before you read it, or a game before you play it, or a meal before you eat it. It’s so blisteringly obvious I can’t believe I have to say it. I also can’t believe I have to say that that’s a crappy excuse for piracy. If you want some idea of whether or not you’ll like the movie, read a review of it! Read several reviews, if you like! Watch all the trailers! There are plenty of ways to find out the quality of a movie before you watch it.
If you really don’t want to see it in theaters for some reason and you can’t wait the few scant months it will take for it to be released on DVD (though unless you’ve got a terminal disease that will kill you before then you absolutely can be that patient), don’t just pirate the movie and then buy some merch “if you liked it enough”. Paying for a piece of art isn’t contingent on whether or not you liked it. If you really need to see it before it comes out on DVD and not in theaters, buy a ticket and THEN pirate it. Even if you’re not going to see it in the theater, you still have a responsibility to support the movie and it’s creators.
I usually don’t humor replies of this nature since they are basically of the caliber “how dare you having a different opinion than mine”, but this was just a little bit too beautiful to ignore.
Well, let’s start at the very first statement, saying that I advocated piracy. Well, you see, if you decided to read a little bit more than just the “yes, go see the leaked version”, there is a string attached, namely this one:
[...]if you are like me and live in a country where you know the theater releases of kids’ movies are terribly dubbed, then yes, go watch the leaked movie.
You kind of sort of missed pretty significant chunk of information there.
If I would really want to advocate piracy as such, I really wouldn’t need to do much more than point out how and why MLP became such a global hit, and I wouldn’t need to point any further than how the show got distributed: People uploaded the aired rips, illegally, to youtube and other video sharing sites, thus enabling people that don’t live in US or Canada or don’t have a Netflix account to watch it. If I would want to go even further, I would link you to an article that there is a comprehensive study that piracy doesn’t harm sales, but in many cases boosts them. But I won’t. That would be silly.
Paying for a piece of art isn’t contingent on whether or not you liked it.
What makes art so special? You won’t buy a car if you test-driven it and you don’t like. You wouldn’t pay for for food in a restaurant if it’s so terrible you can’t digest it. And you probably won’t pay for a commission if you didn’t liked the end product, would you, even though it’s art?
I would like to put this into a perspective: I live in a country in which the show never aired. Not just “until recently”, but ever. We don’t have Netflix or Hulu or anything in that direction, and my only contact with MLP had been via illegal uploads on Youtube. HOWEVER, even though the show never aired here, we still got the toys. And because I liked the show that I saw because someone posted it illegally, I decided to support it by buying MLP merchandise.
And yes, aside of two fan-made ponies, everything else here is official merchandise. Even those two tails, tails belonging to Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle respectively, the ones that you can see on the right side of the picture, are made by 4DE, officially licensed plushies. And even what you see here is only a fraction of what I have.
And with that, let’s return to the original argument: Will I spend money for a ticket for a terribly dubbed pony movie? (For some reason we got the movie, but never the shows. Huh.)
Of course not. And before anyone decides to scream about that action is supporting piracy or some other nonsense, I’ll say this: With buying a ticket here, I will also support future horrific dubbing, of which I have no desire to do. If I liked the original movie enough, I will buy a DVD.
And probably even more toys.
