One of the hardest things you will ever have to do, my dear, is to grieve the loss of a person who is still alive.
Connie sat by a window in the eastern wing of his families villa, gazing up into the nights sky. Winter had come, and snow had blanketed the earth. This far from any city, it shone with the reflected glow of the moon and stars. Especially the moon, fully revealed this night.
His gaze was locked onto the moon.
He missed her. By God, he missed her.
Even after everything...
It had hurt a lot in the beginning. After the euphoria of being away from her, doing whatever he wanted. He thought he did the right thing but... after a while... the doubt came in. And the pain.
He missed her... even if it was an idea in his head.
It was only recently that he learned... that it was okay.
It was okay to miss her. Despite what happened between them. In spite of that, no matter what other people would think. Of what she would think.
She probably hated him, and would do so for a long time. That was okay too.
He still loved her. Even if it was that idea. And it was okay. Connie saw no need for hate. No benefit. So he loved her still. The fact it’d be the exact opposite thing she would do gave it a delicious, almost spiteful twist to it.
The love would fade. Or maybe not. It could stay in his heart for years. And that was okay.
A soft, wry, and sad smile formed on his face.
He would have faith... that things would work out. One way or the other.
He kept looking at the moon for a few moments before pulling out his phone.
Soon the sound of music filled the room, and the voice of a dreamer joined the one coming from the phone.
“I hope you’re happy.”
